I have an envy laptop m6 and when I turn it on a blue screen comes up that asks for an administrator password. I have tried it multiple times and then it says system disabled and gives the code 85508345. Is there a way to reset the password?

I'm trying to fix my neighbours computer, it's a Pavilion dm3 and somehow she managed to completly lock the system. When it boots it just asks for the administrator password and will not continue to boot, not even bios menu is available.
I've read some other posts on this forum that the way to unlock it is to post the "halt code" given when 3 passwords have failed, in my case that code is: 51019908
Also, how does one even end up in this state, I've never seen this kind of lockdown before?

Decided to 'Refresh' the OS and went to the F11 restore utilities. When I go to the refresh utility and follow the prompts I reach a message that says, "The drive where windows is installed is locked. Unlock the drive and try again." I've searched support for unlocking instructions and aside from some bootrec commands (that didn't work - probably because I don't have a Win 8 disk) not much is available.
The only access I have for running commands is via the Task Manager and F11 command prompt. What is this 'locked' drive, anyway?
