Just got my Dell Windows 8 laptop and looking at disk management I can see 4 partitions in there in addition to the one containing the OS. See image below.

View 1 Replies View RelatedWhenever my SZ fan spins down it makes a strange sound, as if it's rubbing against something.
I've disassembled the laptop and cleaned the fan. Nothing was obstructing the fan yet it makes the same noise.
It doesn't do it while spinning up, while running or even if I manually slow the fan down by holding a Q-Tip against it while it's spinning
Just recently purchased a Dell Inspiron 5520 laptop with Intel Core i5-3210M CPU. Had it for about a month.
A couple weeks ago, I noticed an annoying clicking sound coming from underneath the laptop. It seems to be coming from the center of the laptop. They occur continuously no matter what I'm doing on the laptop, but their frequency is random. It will click once and then wait a few seconds til the next click sometimes or click twice back-to-back and wait a few seconds, etc. No pattern as far as I can tell.
I did the Dell Hardware test, and it reported on faults...
The clicking sound is not super loud or anything. I can't even hear it if the TV is on, but it gets super annoying after listening to it when the room is quiet.
This is my first Dell laptop, but I can't imagine this is normal. I have had a Compaq and a Toshiba and other than the fan, you can really hear anything out of them...
I have inspiron 5520 laptop, i ran a diagnostic test which shows Hard disc test failure. it also shows hard disc failure is imminent .
Also in dell support center - pc checkup I ran test Hard disc failled in two tests, Targeted read test and SMART short self test, my laptop is under warranty. what should i do?
I am using Dell Insipron 15R 5520 Laptop Windows 7. Last few days I am getting a long beep sound after I pressed the power button and the Dell progress bar loads. And if I press power button, its turning off. Later I've pressed F8 key to login in Wiindows Normal Mode, its opening Windows. So every time i've to press F8 key to login. Sometimes the beep sound continues and not logging in normal mode or in Safe mode.Â
I thought it might be RAM issue and I checked 'System Settings' in Control Panel, it shows the usable RAM is 2.77GB of 8GB.Â
I went to Dell laptop service center near by my location and they said its keyboard problem, they charging too much amount to replace keyboard. but my keyboard is working properly.
I am planning to buy New Dell Inspiron 15 series 7000. I would want to replace the harddisk with SSD by next year or so. But i wanted to know if i can have SSD along with hard disk in this laptop.
I wanted both good performance along with large storage. So i was wondering if i can have two disks at once.
Is it possible to put an additional hard disk in an inspiron 15R - 5521? I would like to put a SSD in it, but would like to keep the 1TB disk that is currently in it.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI currently have a Dell Inspiron 1720 with a second hard disk I bought and fitted myself. If I get a Studio 17, will I be able to fit this hard disk into the second bay in there? As far as I'm aware the disk itself should be okay, but the caddy might be slightly different for that model - is that right? If so I'll just buy a new caddy or modify this one - otherwise I'll be £100 down for this hard disk!

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have new Dell Inspiron N4050 with pre-installed Windows 7. It has five partitions with are as follows:-
1) Dell Utility 41 MB FAT
2) OS 5.4 GB FAT
3) 310 GB ext 4
4) Extended 4.2 GB
5) 4.2 GB Swap ...
There is only one partition which is useful to me with a storage of 310 GB. But, I want 4 useful partitions. I don't need any recovery partition etc.
I am replacing the installed Seagate Momentus 160 gb 5400 SATA disk with a Seagate Momentus 320gb 7200rpm SATA hard disk as I need the extra space to hold my growing itunes collection and feel the extra speed would also be welcome.
I have the original Dell installation disks (Operating System, drivers etc), the installation disks for the subsequently installed software (other than the freebies including iTunes etc available on the net) and have backed up all my critical data to an external hard drive using the vista backup facility for subsequent restoration once all the software has been installed.
I will of course keep the 160 gb drive available with all it's data intact as a secondary safeguard until I have satisfactorily completed the installation and testing of the new disk.
internal hard drive disk not found; no bootable devices; start up repair finds no solution..... I have reseated the hard drive several times. the computer runs extremely slow. Dell Data Safe had recommended replacing the hard drive ''couple of months" ago.

How I can disable the internal HDD without having to physically open the laptop?
Just purchased an Inspiron 15 laptop with Windows 8. Â I removed the hard disk drive from our old Inspiron 6000, installed it in an enclosure, and hooked it to the new laptop to be able to access the document files. Â (The hdd from the old computer is a Western Digital 250 GB and was newly installed six months ago).
When I plug in the enclosure, the power light comes on and it shows up on the new laptop as local disk E. Â When I click on disk E and go to documents, the only documents shown are three that are saved on the new laptop, and none of the hundreds of documents saved on the hdd from the old computer. Â What I can do?
I have a Inspiron M5040 (mid 2011) I ran a system test and was informed that there was a drive critical error with a hard drive ST95032 5AS SATA Disk Device FAILED... What does that mean, is it fixable and how much?
View 3 Replies View RelatedAfter hard disk failure on my dell inspiron n5030 i copied two first partitions from my old hard drive to a new one using Acronis disk director. But when i try to use ctrl+f11 to start the recovery procedure the procedure doesn't work.
I also tried decompressing the factory iso file to Os partition and when i tried to start the pc and boot with Os partition as active  it didn't work.
I have a Dell Inspiron N5050. The hard disc of the laptop makes little clicking sound, which can be heard only in silence or if you keep it close to your ear, but yeah it makes those sounds continuously. I bought it last year and I noticed this sound after like 4 months. I have the latest firmware update installed and also checked the hard disc for errors, but that isn't making any effect. It working completely fine. I use it moderately, some Ms office works and a sometimes games too, like about 6 hours a day. No hangs, No high temperature and nothing.
But since I've experienced trouble with the hard disc of a PC (which crashed within days after it started making sounds), i am a little tensed about it. Should i take it to a service center? will a hard disc format be useful. The sound is louder when the device is booting.
I am using windows 7 Home basic SP1 x64, the hard disc is ST 9500325AS 500GB, 2GB RAM.
I have upgraded to Windows 7 x64 (a fair while ago) and rencently it has started to come up with "No sound device installed" over the speaker icon in the sys tray.
This happens about 50% of the time when the computer has started up.
It never has any issues once the sound is working.
When the sound is not working "Sound, Video and Game Controllers" in Device manager is missing and i cant find the "Reltek HD Audio" device any where else in device manager.
It's just had a freash install of the OS and is still not working reliably.
It's got the latest Win 7 x64 drivers from RelTek
Whenever I am using my M1530 for simple tasks, such as surfing the web or checking my email, my fan is always running. It isn't running loud but it is audible 20 or so feet away. Hardware monitor places the CPU temperature at 45C and the GPU at 62C. According to task manager my CPU useage is right around 10%. Is this normal?

I need help deciding which HD drives to order on my new m1730.
7,200 200 gB vs 5,400 320 gB drives?
I have seen the thread on 7,200 vs 5,400 HD drives already. Does anyone know which brands/models Dell is shipping with new m1730's?
According to a sales rep who checked with technical support Dell is not using the Samsung spinpoint 320 gB hard disk drive.
I just got my e6400 today, but the hard disk noise is kind of annoying. Even if I do nothing with the OS,
the hard disk light keeps shining and the noise comes along.
Though the sound is little, but it seems to never stop. Is anyone else meets with the same problem like me?
Could anyone recommend a replacement hard disk for a Dell Inspiron 700m laptop. I am running Windows XP Pro SP3.
I would prefer a larger size disk greater than 250GB. I did search the forums and I found very little info for the 700m hard disk problem I have.
Is it possible to install a second hard disk in E4300?
Earlier the option used to be available whilst configuring the E4300 online to add a second 1.8inch hard disk. Now it is no longer there. Can the same be ordered through a Dell rep? What exactly is it that comes when you order this?
I will be grateful if someone can share this info. This will be the deal maker/breaker for me on the E4300.
My Studio originally had a Toshiba, 5400 rpm 250 gb drive in it.
I bought a Western Digital 7200 rpm 360 gb drive to add to my laptop.
I also got the carrier assembly from Dell and I installed the Western Digital into the Studio 17 in drive bay 1 , and put the Toshiba into Drive bay 2.
I had made an image of my C drive with Vista on it, and after installing the new hard drive I put the image onto the Western Digital drive, and all seemed to be well, I booted up and get into Vista, but now I see the C:
local hard drive shows exactly what I had before, and Vista is showing my new drive as Drive F: but it also has all my files on it exactly as the original C image that I made .....
