Whenever my SZ fan spins down it makes a strange sound, as if it's rubbing against something.
I've disassembled the laptop and cleaned the fan. Nothing was obstructing the fan yet it makes the same noise.
It doesn't do it while spinning up, while running or even if I manually slow the fan down by holding a Q-Tip against it while it's spinning
I have a laptop dell 5520, when i received it, the has unusual sound. special, when I open a heavy software.
I found some information that maybe the hard disk has mistake physic.
I've noticed that my 8510p's HDD (which is a Toshiba) makes a loud scratching sound for about a second every week or every two weeks. I ran HD Tune's error scan and it came up with no damaged blocks. What's wrong? Should I be worried? I've already backed-up my important stuff.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI bought a 13 inch macbook pro about a month ago and while enjoying my laptop, I heard a very faint tick sound. after a few days the tick sound become more prominent and after reading few complaints about ticking/clicking sound I am pretty sure this has nothing to do with the motion sensor or fan noise problems.
after few weeks gone by and I found out that if you press the bottom side of the laptop it will make a tick sound (is this normal?) I am not sure if this is causing the ticking problem I've been hearing.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have recently purchased a sony cw with the i5 chip. I love it and have had it now for a little over a month.
the question i have though is that when I play a blu ray movie the sound is so extremely low. I have tried moving the sound bar on the PC as well as on the corel dvd window to max but the sound is still horribly low. If i put in headphones the sound is loud as it should be.
I have a Sony Vaio VGN-SZ150P, but the sound doesn't work.
The previous owner said he made by acident a shortcut, near the keyboard connector.
The symptoms the driver does work, and when I look in the volume control I see a moving green bar, indicating the sound is produced, but it doesn't come out.
I tried with external speakers but no luck there.
It clearly is a hardware fault.
I can't find anything on the board that has to do with sound, can someone tell me where to look, and what to look for.
since yesterday my sound ain't working.
According to Vista the soundcard is installed and working properly.
When I chat through Skype, I can see that speaker-sensor is moving, my friends can hear me too but I can't hear them, no sound what so ever.
I bought my sony aw series it's working well. Just recently, I got a problem with my speaker laptop. when i try to open K-lite plaer or Window media player I sometimes get this Sizzy sound as if like the speaker is broken even i played the song at low volume but when i restart everything goes well. When I browse Japanese Sony Style site regarding to the new Vaio Z, it says that it has Sound Reality, which enhances sound quality, but in Sony Style USA, it just says Intel® High Definition Audio. Does the US model have Sound Reality?
When you boot your Vaio you will hear a special chime, this is one of Sony Vaio's feature. I know that some people do not like this sound and disable it in the boot menu. On the contrary, I quite like this chime. I want to use it in my mobile phone as a ringtone or a message sound. I try to find it in my Vaio S36 but couldn't find it. Can anyone please help me find the boot sound file or tell me where it is located in hard drive?

I have been using a HDMI cable connected to my TV for a few months now all working fine yet today for no apparent reason the sound has started coming through my laptop rather than the TV. I have gone to the control panel and tried switching the default sound to the realtec digital however this did not work and I ended up with no sound at all.I have tried two different players both VLC and Zoom player.

Whenever I am using my M1530 for simple tasks, such as surfing the web or checking my email, my fan is always running. It isn't running loud but it is audible 20 or so feet away. Hardware monitor places the CPU temperature at 45C and the GPU at 62C. According to task manager my CPU useage is right around 10%. Is this normal?

I scanned for viruses and nothing. I installed linux and everything seemed ok. But when I installed windows again, even before installing drivers the cpu was 30% without doing anything!!! the same thing happens after installing drivers. a friend of mine with a with a similar i3 laptop an the same windows (win 7 pro msdn) has only 10% on idle.

I know that sony dosent provide you with the cd's but you can make yours from vaio recovery center. The problem is that when I try to make a recovery cd it says: " Cannot find the recovery drive. If you have not removed the recovery drive, restarting the system may correct the issue. Ofcourse restarting didnt solved the problem. I am sure that there is a recover partition because in my computer> manage>disk managment: it shows that there is a patrition 11,18GB healthy (active primary partition). Also if i press F10 at boot nothing happens

Bought some Sony dvd-r disks and after about 15 mins a message appears to say that the disks couldn`t be created. Rang Sony support today, they said you need to use Dual Layer dvds for the FW series. I got a XPS M1730 with Dual 9800GT.
It is a great computer and I love it.
However, When I run HWmonitor, I get 73-76F at idle. And It has been running very hot..
I had this laptop for about a week and it's always like that.
So, I looked underneath the laptop and seems like the two GPU fans are not spinning at all.
Is this normal or something wrong with my unit?
Do I have to open it up and check the fan cable? Or is it something wrong with the bios? Only thing I did to this laptop is update the driver to nvidia's 185.85
Back of the laptop is so hot that I can't touch it with my hand..
my laptop fan was good till today morning and i shut it down at noon and everything was ok. But when it turned it on in the evening it display error message-------the system fan is not working and count down of 15 seconds untill laptop gets auto shutdown. After that i noticed that my fan is not spinning. As troubleshooting, i updated my bios, do a system restore, uninstall paragon hard disk suite which i installed in the morning thinking that it might be causing the problem. But of no use. Still the fan is not working.

But basically, but something is constantly on even when I just have the laptop on with a few IE windows, you can especially feel it just to the left of the touchpad. From time to time, I will also hear the the noise coming from it and it till slow down, then start up again.
I mean, its not a big issue, but is something wrong with the laptop?
This happens when the CPU load is as low as just 5%, temperatures around 42-45 degrees Celsius.
Well in Vista my hdd was very quite. Now in XP it wont stop spinning. Its very annoying becouse its louder than fan. It keeps spinning and spinning. Very annoying. Its only 5400R/PM

View 7 Replies View RelatedThe fan in my e540 does not stop once it has started spinning. This is completely independent of system temperature. Even though the temperature of the board and the cpu is below 40*C the fan won't stop.
The fan does not always spin, though. If I wake up the system from sleep or power it on, the fan does not spin and will not start spinning until a certain temperature threshold is reached. This part of fan control works correctly.

Interesting procedure: I work until the system gets hot and the fan kicks off. I want until the system is cooled down below 40*C (checked with speccy software, the air stream leaving the notebook is cold). The fan is still spinning at this point and will probably spin forever. I suspend the laptop (no complete power off required). I immediately "wake up" the laptop (system temperature did not change, no time to cool down). The fan is off again and will not start spinning until the temperature threshold is reached.
