Aug 26, 2009The Acer support wrote that the timeline is able to output 5.1/Ac3 sound via hdmi.
The Realtek driver is configured to route the sound through hdmi.
Using vlc with a Blueray rip (with Ac3 sound), I can't select something like Ac3 Passthrough for hdmi (I found spdif passthrough when selecting it in the realtek drivers, but it didn't work either).
Well using k-lite codec pack forcing Ac3 output I only get noise on my end. The AV receiver should play DolbyDigital and DTS. what he does is dolby pro logic II upmix.
Sony :: Vaio Z1 And HDMI Output
May 17, 2010Ive been using a 40 inch HDTV ever since I received my Z about a month ago. I had to move recently, and now when i attempt to use the display it looks very strange, almost as if someone turned the digital vibrance or contrast setting up all the way. The text looks strange, and it is overall unpleasant to look at. I checked all of the settings and everything is the same as before, and tried varying the resolution and color settings. I can't figure it out!
I can take a picture if that would help explain better. I also checked the TV's settings and I do not believe that is the issue.
I also tried reinstalling the NVIDIA drivers from sonys website to no avail.

Feb 10, 2010I have a Sony Vaio FW laptop with a HDMI output, when i had vista i could plugin my hdmi output in to my TV hdmi input and immediatly see my computer display on my TV. As soon as i upgraded to Win 7 Ultimate 64 bit, when i plugin the hdmi cable nothing happens, i am unable to get my tv and laptop to notice each other, Win 7 doesnt seem to notice at all.

Jul 12, 2014My U330P is running Windows 7 with the latest drivers for both the Intel HD video module and the Realtek audio chip. I would like to connect my machine to a TV via HDMI and have it both act both as the display as well as the audio playback device (i.e. TV speakers should blare, not the ones in my Ideapad).
The thing is, I don't have said TV yet and if what I want to do is not possible, I will not bother buying it. I already did look around in Control Panel -> Sound -> Playback in order to find out whether there's an option to set the HDMI port as a playback device but found nothing. I also have the playback devices menu display disconnected and deactivated devices, but the only thing showing is the built-in stereo speakers. The listings in my device manager don't suggest something like a "digital sound whatnot" either.
So in general whether the audio signal can be rerouted to the HDMI output connector on a U330P.

Sony Vaio VGN-FW370J with Win Vista Home Premium 64 with Aptio Utility.
I do have realtek hd audio card and this card should have digital output. My gf has a toshiba satellite with the same card and she has it but I don't. I called sony and they replied (twice with different technicians) that this feature is not available on this model. Both audio cards have the same chip so I suspect that this feature is disabled hw.
It is not a driver problem. The driver does not install the Realtek Audio Manager so within the OS there is no way to enable it.

May 26, 2011I bought a Roline DP to HDMI cable hoping to be able to watch HD content in my livingroom and not having to plug an extra audio cable as DP should carry sound too.
When I do the same as on the youtube video, I get the following settings in the control panels: [URL] ....
But there's no sound coming out of the TV. I've tried it on my SyncMaster PC/TV Screen and on my Samsung TV in the living room. On the TV in the living room, the windows audio manager shows the device, but it cannot be selected as show above. It stays grey.
I've got a T420s with discrete nVidia Optimus graphics (Quadro NVS4200M). Driver version is 1.2.19.0 for nVidia HD-Audio and 8.17.12.6696 for NVS 4200M. This information comes from the device manager. I installed my system from scratch and used ThinkVantage System Update 4.
Where the problem comes from? I could only imagine that the cable isn't capable of carrying audio, but that seems rather illogic, does it?

Aug 18, 2009the dolby surround sound expander and the bass enhancer program on the bottom right in the taskbar?? well when i turn off the surround sound, it causes certain apps to sound different. for example the fingerprint reader. a successful swipe will sound muddy but with the surround sound enabled, it will become clear. this problem also conflicts with AIM and webchat, id have to turn on the surround sound to hear the person's voice clearly.

Feb 5, 2010So as the title states, I am wondering if it is possible to play a video with audio encoded in Dolby Digital on my laptop, pass it through to my TV via HDMI, then out via optical to my receiver. I have a friend who owns a HP business laptop with a SoundMAX sound card, but also an ATI graphics card. We are both running the Realtek ATI HDMI 2.39 drivers, I have the latest drivers from Dell for the IDT sound card on my Studio XPS 16 (1640). He says (and I've seen) he is able to do Dolby Digital this way through an option (see attachment).
However, I do not have this same "Custom" tab / option, and we are running the same driver version (at least to my knowledge). Can anyone help me in finding out if this is doable, and if so, what software (and versions) are required?

Oct 20, 2009I have a HP 8510p (XP32) that works really fine. The only thing that I can not make it happen is that whatever I try I can not get the DD, DTS work between my laptop HDMI and my receive. I recieive only stereo (Audio HDMI OUT is selected).
Question:
1) How on earth can I get DTS/DD from my laptop HDMI when i play a mkv with DTS/DD audio?
2) If I connect the laptop to the TV via HDMI and the laptop to my amp via optical, can it make the trick? (the only problem here is that, my laptop does not have optical out, just HDMI and analog, but using a docking station i can have optical out...)

Dec 24, 2007type of connector needed for digital audio? I have not been able to confirm that my Acer 7720-6395 NB has a dual digital connection. The manual calls the jack a S/PDIF but looks like and allows a stereo plug to work. Talking to the folks at the Sony store claims that the jack could be a dual connector and would work with a headphone or a optical connection. Would love to watch a blue ray movie with 5.1 sound......

Aug 4, 2009I've been Windows 7 now for quite a while and it's been great apart from the little brightness setting bug. There's also the issue of having no surround sound output via HDMI.
When I was running Vista using the stock audio/video drivers I've had no issues getting the HDMI (to my surround sound reciever via HDMI) to output surround sound, it just worked for whatever media I played.
Since switching to Windows 7, I've been unable to get any surround sound out at all, It's only outputting stereo. I've tried the various Realtek drivers and have had no luck, they don't even allow me to use HDMI sound output when the cable is connected!
Anyone else have this problem? or found a solution?
I'm running RC1 x86 on a Vaio Z (VGN-Z90S - original Jap. model). I've also tried it with earlier versions of 7 with no go, and I'm hesitant to try the RTM version. I kinda want to wait for another reformat until I get my key.
Anyone have surround on their Z through HDMI? (please let me know, what drivers/OS you're running.)

Jun 11, 2009I just bought a used but fully working Vaio VGN-FW11e with a cracked screen (got it for a good price). The lcd-panel had been removed but the lid is intact. The cracked screen didn't bother me since I planned to have it permanently hooked up to my projekter using the VGA-output.
The problem is that it doesn't seem to turn on the VGA-out before Windows has loaded, i.e. it is impossible to see the POST/loading of BIOS. When trying to restore Windows to its factory settings (since the old owner had left all his files and folders all over the place) using the Vaio Recovery Center something went wrong and now I'm left with a dead system.
When turning the computer on I can hear and see what seems like a proper POST, i.e. the hard drive spinning, the dvd drive spinning etc. But a few seconds after start, when it's supposed to start loading Windows it just stay still, most likely with some kind of error message.
I desperately need to be able to activate the VGA out during BIOS to be able to reinstall Windows. According to Sony this is not possible. But it sound almost silly since every other laptop I have had has been able to output a picture to VGA directly during POST. Is there some way since the obvious Fn-F7 doesn't work?

Jan 30, 2009I decided to try playing some 720p video on my Sanyo 42" LCD HDTV (native res 1366x768). I assumed it would be as easy as just connecting an HDMI cable and setting my m1530 to clone desktop.. I couldn't have been more wrong.
After doing some research it appears that LCD HDTVs aren't as flexible as regular LCD monitors with respect to HDMI input. No matter what I do, the screen always appears cropped around the edges on my TV.
What I've tried so far:
1) Setting a custom 1366x768 resolution in the nVidia control panel.
2) Tried setting my hdtv as primary monitor and setting the res.
3) Used Powerstrip (program) in an attempt to force a 1366x768 res (not sure if I'm doing this entirely correctly, I'm a little confused over what the correct advanced timings should be).
4) I hear this issue is called "overscan", so I looked through my TV menu for any overscan or zoom/image scaling options but couldn't find any.
I'm using the 179.28 Nvidia driver.
I'm running out of things to try, does anyone know how to make this thing work?

Oct 15, 2008I have heard numerous comments stating that individuals are only getting Stereo Sound from their HDMI port but then other comments explaining that yes, indeed, it supports Dolby Digital....5.1 Audio etc.
The HDMI port is 1.2 which allows for a PCM 8 audio stream signal.
I have a receiver that allows for internal 7.1/5.1 Audio streams (all of the latest codecs can be decoded and processed) with HDMI output/input connections.
Will I be able to send a 5.1 PCM Audio stream to my AV Receiver and thereby utilizing the full range of audio?

Dell :: HDMI Output Showing Postage Stamped
Jan 9, 2010new SXPS 16 owner (Windows 7). I'm trying to run HDMI out to an external XL2370 Samsung monitor.
Works, but the image shows postage stamped (black border on all four sides. So the image is 21" diagonally on my 23" diagonal screen).
If I hook the SXPS to my big TV via HDMI, I get the same result (postage stamp).
If I hook up my HD camcorder to either my TV or my new monitor via the HDMI port, the image fills the screen as expected.
If I hook up the SXPS to the new monitor via VGA, it fills the screen. So this points to the HDMI output of LT being the problem...
