I have a Inspiron M5040 (mid 2011) I ran a system test and was informed that there was a drive critical error with a hard drive ST95032 5AS SATA Disk Device FAILED... What does that mean, is it fixable and how much?
View 3 RepliesI have a Pavilion dv7 1245dx with Windows Vista 64 Bit bought 2009 at Best Buy. It slid off the arm of the couch onto a carpeted floor while shut down. Next day started ok, got into yahoo, facebook, then kind of froze up. Eventually, would not do anything, manually shut it down, started it back up. Black screen, 'No Bootable Device-Insert Boot Disc And Press Any Key'. It will not accept recovery discs that I made after purchase. Start up test ok, memory test ok, hard disk failed 'Boot Drive Not Found'. Caps lock light is blinking. I saw something in a forum about resetting or reseating the hard drive but no explanantion how to do it.

My notebook is the brand-new Inspiron 1720 which only supports SATA.
The problem is that the hard drive didn't come with a "connector" (or "gender changer" or whatever... I don't what's this thing called).
So, I am unable to connect the hard drive to my notebook. I contacted newegg.com and they said it doesn't come with the connector.
Anyone know where I can get this connector?
I tried googling like "SATA connector 2.5-inch drive", but I cannot find any information.... Also, what's this thing called exactly?

How to overcome these errors.
my laptop has failed the hard drive diagnostic with an error code of 2000-0142, and looking here in the forum I see it means that I should replace the hard drive. That being said, I am not actually having any problems with my computer. I ran the f12 diagnostic after a routine scan notified me of a smart short test fail and it came up on the diagnostic as well. Does that mean that at any moment I would actually see something happen?

The dell support center PC Check showed my hard drive funnel seek test failed. Before I ran the PC check, the laptop flashed and shutdown. I restarted in safe mode and backed up all of my files, shut down the laptop again and restarted.
I am currently rebooting the laptop, and have inserted the Dell Diagnostics and utilities CD and testing my hard drive. the following error code keeps occurring..No additional sense information

The same message also occurred with the following Block Numbers, with the same error code:

these are the block numbers so far, the test is still running.
I have a 80 GB Sata HDD, on a (virtual ((i still dont have it exactly... ))) 5315 C2D T8300 laptop. and i was wondering if i should upgrade it. What will change exactly, is it worth it, and if yes what kind of HDD should i look for?

Downloaded Firefox accidentally from a bad site and it was bundled with malware. So I refreshed the laptop again. Had everything working and then later that day it just quit. Locked up and when I rebooted, it said no hard drive could be found. I have a new hard drive, but how do I get my Windows 8 (paid for with the computer) and a boot disk from Dell?

1) Dell Utility 41 MB FAT
2) OS 5.4 GB FAT
3) 310 GB ext 4
4) Extended 4.2 GB
5) 4.2 GB Swap ...
There is only one partition which is useful to me with a storage of 310 GB. But, I want 4 useful partitions. I don't need any recovery partition etc.

I removed the hard disk drive from our old Inspiron 6000, installed it in an enclosure, and hooked it to the new laptop to be able to access the document files. (The hdd from the old computer is a Western Digital 250 GB and was newly installed six months ago).
When I plug in the enclosure, the power light comes on and it shows up on the new laptop as local disk E. When I click on disk E and go to documents, the only documents shown are three that are saved on the new laptop, and none of the hundreds of documents saved on the hdd from the old computer. What I can do?

View 7 Replies View Relatedi recently bought a vantex nexstar 3 external hard drive with the option of usb and e-sata. The problem i am having is with e-sata. The e-sata is the prefered method of exchanging information dur to its speed rather than usb.
I would like to know from the community in large if there is anyone who has experienced these problems or has connected an external to their m4400 laptop.
The external laptop has a seagate 7200 rpm FFS(free fall sensor) inside.
The problems:
1) When connecting the exHD to the laptop for the first time the HD spins (i can feel it) but then stops. Windows does not pick it up as well as Intel Matrix Storage manager. Only when i restart the laptop still with the exHD connect does windows pick it up as well as Intel Matrix Storage manager.
I did in both cases check to see if the exHD needs more power and it is sufficient.
2)Another issue is that i have windows reporting to me that an external hard drive has been connect to my system even though i havn't plugged it in .....

What is most important for me which ever one causes less heat.
I was checking my hard drive with hdtune and saw something interesting...the program said that my hard drive is SATA I. Am I mistaken or is this for real? I have a CTO VGN-FW490J, got it in June 2009. The hard drive is a Fujitsu MHZ2320BJ. I did a quick google and the descriptions say it is SATA II, so I'm confused. Is it the motherboard that determines the SATA speeds or the hard drive? What's even more confusing is that in the official FW thread, someone said they installed a SSD and they're getting sequential reads at about 250mb/sec so that person definitely is in the SATA II range. I attached an image of the part that shows my hard drive info.

View 4 Replies View RelatedMy xps 1530 is about a year old. The hard drive has failed 3 times now. The first two times I got a bit of advance warning with blue screens and error messages. This time no warning.
Rebot and error message that hard drive can not be found. I tried reseating the drive a few times and nothing. I have the solid state hard drives.
Is this a problem of the hard drive or the lap top? Can I request a regular hard drive from dell this time?
I cannot boot into Windows anymore. The error - Error auto-sensing internal hard disk, no bootable device available' comes up.
I've removed & reinserted the disk tray but the error persists.Even in the BIOS the hard drive doesn't show up and cannot be detected by Diagnostics either.
I removed it from the laptop and connected it to my desktop and its working fine. So my guess is the problem is not with the disk. The laptop is out of warranty.

I have a HP 15 Notebook PC with no dvd drive recently I was sent the system recovery cds from HP. I dont have an external dvd drive. What i do have is a Toshiba Satelight laptop with Widows 7 and a good dvd drive. Also I have a 500 GB external hard drive. I was thinking maybe I could copy the disks onto the external harddrive with the Toshiba dvd drive. Then attach the external hard drive to my HP 15 Notebook by usb port and install Hp recovey disks from the external hard drive.
