whenever it goes into standby after about 20 minutes I can't get it out of standby. The wifi light is on and the system green light is on but nothing will wake it from its slumber. I was considering just turning off standby mode because I have to reboot the system whenever this happens. My aunts aspire one also does this so it would be helpful to get this figured out.

I finally bought my Z series and trying to clone my HDD to my SSD using Acronis True Image with the SSD being on the outside of the computer using USB.
When it reached 80%, everything shut down as If the computer went into standby mode with the power light intermittenly turning amber. I turned it on again manually but the screen stayed blank. So I have to redo the whole cloning process again. it happened 2x already?
My Thinkpad never really went into sleep mode during cloning.
I have a Vaio Z4. I upgraded to Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit with all available drivers.
I recently run into the problem that when closing the lid, that the notbook does not enter standby mode as it should. It keeps on, screen black, and no response to anything... if this happens, I can only turn it off and on again.
My new XPS laptop is just a few days old and I'd like not to kill it prematurely. What is current consensus on best practice to extend useful life? Shut it down after session completed (i.e., in AM when leaving for work) or leave in standby "sleep" mode? I leave my employers Dell Latitude computer powered up in a docking station during the week but power it down for the weekend. With current electronic semiconductor technology, is there a negative aspect on longevity (inrush current, for example) by daily shutting down and powering up?

When I came back it simply refuses to switch on at all, so I checked the battery (full charge) and the adapter (green light) so all power sources look good. Briefly, the button on the opposite side of the laptop from the power switch did show a white light, but that's died as well now! I removed the CMOS battery in case it was a logical problem, but it made no difference.

View 3 Replies View RelatedMy D630 wakes up in he middle of the night fo apperantly no reason at all. The only program that is running is Outlook Express or maybe nothing at all.
Windows is password protcted so only the log on page comes up but it will download Emai messeges. How can I keep this D630 from waking up on it's own.
The laptop goes into a restarting mode, which after computer loaded the desktop and taskbar keep on restarting itself. Cant click or do anything in it.
I tried to use F8, it wont bring me to the sttandard loading option.
When i bough t it, no manual, no dvd or anything.
I just purchased an Aspire V5-561PG laptop. It has Windows 8.1 installed. I'm encountering a very frustrating problem with it and it seems to be a very common problem after searching on various tech forums. I am not able to get the laptop out of sleep mode once it goes into that mode. It's gone into sleep mode via inactivity, closing the laptop lid and by pressing Function+F4. I cannot get it to wake after each of these instances. The only thing I can do is hold down the power button to manually shut it down and then press the power button again to restart it. I'm not even 100% sure it's going into sleep mode with any of the 3 above scenarios. The screen goes black as you would expect but the lights in the bottom, front of the laptop are still all lit up. I would expect the lights to turn off when it's in sleep mode (maybe I'm wrong about that). I've changed the video drivers multiple times and that hasn't worked. I have the latest BIOS installed.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have two aspire one running XP and one is very slow. I switched the HD and the problem remains with the notebook. I did upgrade the BIOS to the latest one, no change.
What I found is that the ATA/ATAPI controller is set to MODE PIO on the slow notebook and I cannot change it to ULTRA DMA. When I change the driver to the right one then at startup I need to get back to the previous correct configuration as oit will not load windows..
I have an Acer Aspire One with OS Win XP. This morning I went in the Power Management and decided to try Hibernate. I went away for a moment. When I returned, the On Switch was still green, but nothing worked. Black screen, HD dead like everything else. I tried F-Alt-F4 to no avail !
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy Asprie 5739 appears to have gone into sleep mode. When I push the power button the power charge LED below the touch pad blinks, but it does not boot, even when I hold it for a long period of time.
I removed the battery and power, then plugged it back in, tried holding down the power button with the same result. Left it unplugged for a day, same result.
Have tried to hold the power button + FN F4, still not response.
First I thought it was the contact problem with the power adapter then I fixed that problem. Now it simply turns on and and does nothing. After awhile even the fan comes on properly. But the laptop has no pic nothing no hardrive movement nothing.

I think I have the proper bios .fd files, but I'm not too sure, and I can't be sure about what to name said file. I can't be sure I'm going into the Crisis mode, but I do know that If I'm holding down fn+esc when I hit the power button then the processor fan runs alot faster.

The USB power (and thus the fan) stays on when I put the laptop into "sleep" mode. In Hibernation, it turns off as normal.
How can I make the USB power turn off when in normal "sleep" mode?

For the last 2 days I have been trying to install Windows 7 x64 in UEFI mode on my laptop but it seems entirely impossible. Whatever I do, the boot menu (F12) just won't show any UEFI devices AT ALL, just the normal DVD and/or USB options. Obviously when I try to boot from either normal DVD or USB, Windows 7 setup freezes at the "Starting Windows" screen, I'm pretty sure that's because it is not running the EFI bootloader of the setup.
For the record, I can't just install Windows 7 in Legacy/BIOS mode because it is then impossible to install the Synaptics Touchpad driver under Windows because the Touchpad device is not discovered for whatever reason.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have an Aspire 5517 running Windows 7. When on battery power, the computer will not go to sleep if it is playing any audio or video file through the speakers. Pause the stream and the computer will sleep as normal on power saver options, but if I leave it playing on battery power computer will not sleep or hibernate. When battery reaches critical level computer will not shut down and I have to restart windows later. This seems like a problem with a driver.

When I put my switch 10 to sleep, and then re-open it, the keyboard is not working anymore, like it has problem recharging drivers. Same issue happens sometime when I use it in tablet mode and then reconnect the dock to it, I've a very hard time trying to make the keyboard and touchpad working again. The fact is that the usb port on the dock doesn't seem to have any problem at all, only the touchpad and the keyboad. I can't figure out if that's a software or an hardware problem.

She went to use it today and couldn't remember her password. I tried several but continue to get the same response... "Your PC is offline. Please sign in with the last password used on this PC". For some reason, it's not connecting to wifi, I have removed the battery, I have attempted "safe mode" with Alt f5, f8 and even f10 and I get nothing except back to the sign in screen. I tried ALT, CTRL, DLT and it does nothing.
