if there is an alternative to macbook batterys, meaning ones not made by apple and therefore cheaper. Also, i have not heard very good things about aple batteries, mainly that they just die out, is there any true to that?
View 3 RepliesOn my Black Macbook is it when it is charging the screen feels different than when it is running on the battery. For example, when it is charging and I run my finger along the screen there is more resistance and it is not as smooth as when it is running on the battery. Is this normal?

So earlier this year the original battery in my black MacBook died on me. Machine is out of warranty, but took it in to the Apple store anyway, and they ended up replacing it for free. Well THIS battery only has 40 load cycles on it, and it looks like its dead now too. MagSafe adapter plugged in, green light, battery indicating its not charging. I've pulled the battery out, checked pins on the power adapter (hooked it up on a friends MacBook to be sure it wasnt the adapter, and it did charge).

Right now I don't have the stock ram, my friend took it when he sold it to me, there's some random mis-matched slow 2x1GB sticks of stuff in there, I can buy a 4GB stick (800MHz) off of another buddy soon for 100 kuai ($14), I was wondering, I know OSX will only take 4GB or whatever, and that the book wont support more than 4GB, but will ONE slot support, and fully utilize the 4GB stick?
I only need this computer for another month before I buy a new MBP, so I don't want to spend any actual money on Ram, I'm doing semi-ok with 2gb.
i'm having a issue with my santa rosa mbp. I left for dinner and left my notebook on. Naturally the machine went to sleep. After i came back the machine would not boot up, the screen doesn't even turn on. The light on the latch release remains on. When i try a hard reboot, i'm having the same issue. Black screen, doesn't even get to the grey screen with the apple logo. I've tried going on 1 dimm or ram to see if it's a issue with the ram and still doesn't fix it.

Every once in a while, generally not every day but once every few days, I have a split-second issue where half of the screen on my MBP flashes black for a split-second. Everything's perfectly normal before and afterwards, just that. I suppose it's not terribly bothersome, but it is noticeable. I've done some searching and it seems to be happening to many people and may be software based.

In past laptops I have had, I without a doubt saw increased battery wear and tear when I left the batter in the laptop while the laptop itself was plugged in. I completly destroyed a battery on my Dell laptop by doing this for about a month when it was asking as a desktop. I took the laptop which used to get around 4 hrs of battery life and then after a month it got no more than 15 minutes.
So after that I always took the battery out, so now with the new macbook pro's you cannot take the batteries out, so wont the batteries wear down to nothing faster than if you took them out when not using them?
I need to replace a battery in my First Generation MacBook Pro. Is new battery released for latest MacBooks Pro is going to be compatible with it? Or I have to look for a First Gen battery (A1189)?

This is when doing nothing or just surfing the net. I can get about 7 hrs, with my laptop screen turned to 50%. Any tweaks available? I'd love to know how Apple came up with 10 hrs.

I disconnect it from power supple in the morning and put it in my backpack, and after 3 hours I waked it up by opening the lid and I notice the battery is at 95%. The battery is pretty much out of power after about 4 hours of use with airport on for wireless connection, and at the lowest brightness. Is it possible there is a battery leak, or is this normal? The battery is at 99% health and 40 cycles. It was went down to 96% health before, and it came back to 99% after I calibrated the battery.

I hardly ever use my laptop away from my desk, so it's plugged in all the time. While plugged in, I still keep the battery in the laptop. It's only been through 10 cycles in 2 years, and I know I should've calibrated it monthly, but I didn't and I really wish I had now. Right now, when unplugged, my battery only lasts about half an hour. I downloaded coconutBattery and apparently, my original battery capacity was 5600 mAh, and now it's only 543 mAh.
My question is, did I mess up the battery myself by not calibrating it, or was the battery defective in the first place? :S Or is it just old?
I'm a real n00b when it comes to computers....but if this ISN'T my fault, the laptop is under an Apple Care Protection Plan, and so would that cover the battery? Is there any way to fix it without getting a new battery?
I bought a new white macbook a few days ago. I just noticed now the batter meter says "not charging" and its only at 95%. Is there something wrong with my battery? should I drain it all the way and then recharge?

I found that my battery health is unstable, sometime it said 97%, 98%, 99% and 100%. I thought this was normal.
But today, I turn the dashboard on and istat pro said 35% battery health.
Should I go to a apple store and ask them for a battery replacement?
i've just purchased a 2.0GHZ aluminum macbook recently and am having a small problem with it. The macbooks battery percentage indicator seems to be dropping a percentage point every couple of days even though i'm on mains power? The power adaptor LED is green idicating the computer is fully charged. I've calibrated the battery as apple recommended but its still doing it. The apple tech guy said that it is possibly a 'power board' problem rather than a battery fault and it will need changing. Has anybody else experienced this problem? Other than this small problem the macbook is fantastic, should have coverted over from a pc years ago

As a new 13" Macbook Pro owner, I am wondering if upgrading with non-Apple certified HDD and RAM components could drastically effect the battery life.
I am told that there is firmware in the HDD of the one that comes with a Macbook that is necessary for maximum battery life. From comparing two HDD's in my Macbook (one certified and one not) I think this might be the case. What is your experience?
Also, does there exist Apple certified RAM and, if so, does it offer more battery life compared to non-certified?
I have just bought my Unibody Macbook. I haven't received it yet, but I was wondering if anyone has any tips on undervolting, buying a different battery, etc. to get more battery life on it. I really need it for school and I don't always like sitting next to the plug in a classroom.

Well they released a new battery for the new lineup of macbook pro's released today.
I just got a macbook pro (wish I waited lol) mine is the 2.66 with the 512mb graphics about a month ago. I see they upgraded to 2.8ghz and a larger HD.
Anyways the only thing that I really think I missed out on is the new 7 hour battery (the one previously in the 17")...battery life is important to me.
What I want to know is will the new battery work with my 15" macbook pro?
I've always been a Mac fan and am quite impressed with today's update. I recently purchased 2 new 13" Macbook's a few months ago for my mother and myself. The only complaint we both have is the horrible 2.3-3 hour battery life, instead of selling our lovely investments do you think we can pay to have the new built-in battery placed into the system or should we sell and repurchase? I understand the new systems have quite a few new hardware updates but that's all irrelevant, we just want that new sleek battery life!
We also want the new iPhone 3GS. Grr Apple, you always know how to do it right.
