Apple :: Os X Sdk Equivalents To Windows

Jan 20, 2010

i'm fedup of having to boot into windows to do my programming. can you guys suggest me some equivalent sdk's for my programming language?

I study the following:
C, C++, Java, Dr Scheme, Swi Prolog, Plpg sql (Postgre), Html, javascript, css, php, ajax, celenium. A friend of mine told me that xcode is very good but i dont know how to use it. Basically, i've been using my mac to do windows programming since i bought it.

In my computer graphics module, we do open gl programming (Which i'm using c++ express edition to code), google sketchup, 3ds max, maya.

what's the os x equivalent to visual studio? I want to dump windows and do all my programming in snow leopard now, but i dont know if visual studio has an equivalent in os x.

Apple :: Windows On A Mac - Windows XP Pro SP3 V Windows Vista Ultimate SP2

May 30, 2009

For those that use Windows on your Mac's, which version do you recommend? I'm thinking, what's best for battery life, performance etc..

I have a copy of Windows XP Pro SP3 and Windows Vista Ultimate SP2. I'm tempted to go with XP for simplicity, and the fact that it has equal compatibility and a shed load less intrusive DRM.

Apple :: Bootcamp 3.0 - Windows XP Or Windows 7

Sep 5, 2009

So since Bootcamp 3.0 is out what's more sensible to use; XP or seven? I know originally, Bootcamp was written for Windows XP and everyone (Forumers) said Bootcamp will work best with Windows XP even after Vista came out. I've read Bootcamp 1.2 was released so that all the Apple hardware components would work with Vista (AKA driver updates).

Now since bootcamp 3.0 is out; Will it be worth while to upgrade to windows 7? In other terms, will Seven give me better battery power opposed to bootcamping in XP? Whether it's facts or speculation; Is Bootcamp 3.0 set better to work with windows 7? OR is is like the Bootcamp 1.2; Did Apple release 3.0 so that apple hardware will be compatible with Windows Seven (driver updates)? and I do know the final version of seven isn't out but I don't think it will differ much from the release candidate kernal (correct me if I am wrong). Thanks and sorry if my wording confuses you, been working all day.

Apple :: How Is Windows 7 On The 15 In MBP Core I5

Apr 21, 2010

Is anyone running Windows 7 via Bootcamp (not virtualized) on the new 15inch MBP with the core i5?

How is the performance? How is the battery life?Any driver issues or other problems of note?Does the new MBP still run at 1 million degrees in Windows 7?

I am debating buying the new 15inch MBP core i5 or the Sony Vaio Z for a development laptop to run Windows 7. If the new MBP runs Windows 7 very nicely then I might go with it over the Sony Vaio Z.

Apple :: Windows NT 4.0 On A PowerPC Mac

Feb 17, 2010

As some of you know, Microsoft Windows supported the PowerPC architecture at one point, the latest version being Windows NT 4.0.

I was just wondering if it would be possible to grab a copy of it, and install it onto my iMac G3 or any PowerPC Mac for that matter. I think it would be kind of cool.

Anyone see any flaws/reasons why it shouldn't work? I mean, Apple itself in 1996 was planning on running Windows NT 4.0 on it's line of servers when their OS was going down the tube.

Also, is Parallels a popular choice? How is Bootcamp? VM Ware?

I managed to copy a couple files onto my mac before the HD disappears. however, when I unplug it and plug it in again, I can't get my MBP to see the HD. Normally it only sees it for about a minute or so when I boot up my computer... is this normal? I'd like to be able to use the HD as most of my files from work are on it...

Apple :: MBP 2nd HDD - How To Install Windows On It

Apr 20, 2010

I have a MacBookPro5,2 that I've recently installed a 2nd HDD using an optibay caddy where the superdrive had been.

I would like to have Windows 7 running natively on that 2nd drive. Can I do this via Bootcamp? Or do I use the OS X Disk Utility app to format it as FAT and then proceed to install the windows OS without using bootcamp? I assume I would then need to install the apple drivers that are on my snow leaopard install disk.

Is that about right? Will I be able to selective boot by holding the Opt key at bootup jsut as if I had used bootcamp?

Apple :: Windows On Macbook Air

Apr 24, 2009

I just bought a macbook air rev. a for my wife not long time ago, this is our first mac, she like it so far (probably other than the fan ramp up more than we like) she would like to use OSX as the primary OS but we still need to install windows on it.

Now my question is what is the best way to setup the windows, I'v read about all the options a bit but still need your opinions. The main limitation is the hardware on Macbook air, basically Core 2 duo at 1.6G, X3100 graphics but only 2G ram and 80G HD and no upgrade option.

I have both legit version of windows vista ultimate and windows XP professional, I can download windows 7 beta. I prefer windows vista over XP on my desktop. Here are a few options I have:
1.Run vista through bootcamp , but I don't feel that will be convenient for my wife, and chances are she will exclusively using vista.

2.Run vista through bootcamp, and use Vmware or parallel (which one?) run virtual machine of the bootcamp partition? Not sure how practical is this, will it be too slow because of the ram.

3. Run Xp through bootcamp, and use Vmware or parallel run virtual machine of the bootcamp partition?..........................

Apple :: Mac And Windows 7 Experience

Nov 3, 2009

I decided to upgrade my Vista/Fusion installation to Windows 7/Fusion today on my Alu unibody Mac.

The experience took a couple of hours, and I have to say it was a nervous operation.
A few heads up for those making the trek....

The setup program would not run until I uninstalled McAfee completely. Just disabling does not do the trick.

The mouse button stopped working several times at key junctures, when it is asking for input. Pressing the escape key after bringing up the VMware menu bar seems to alleviate the problem.

I could not re-install McAfee after the installation from the VMware menu bar. I'll have to see if I can do it later from the Fusion install disk.

After installation, Windows 7 seems to to function OK, but I did not do any in-depth testing as I'll want to have a working antivirus before I proceed further. If I can't get McAfee back on, maybe I'll install AVG's free AV.

Apple :: Macbook Pro - Windows

i know this is like blasphemy but she now is required to have windows vista or better for her job and she just got this thing a month ago. she doesnt care it she has the mac os really yes she likes it but.. can the current gen macbook fully support windows vista or 7 by itself.. she doesnt want to be bothered running boot camp and other ways to run windows stuff. she used all her allowed funds to buy this thing now she is a bit annoyed with the situation not with apple at all..but with the mess of the job etc..she will be running in windows all day long and some of the programs she is told will not work right running on a mac os running as windows...so if she formats and wipes it clean can she run vista or 7 easily? im sure i can test it all out but since there are so many mac users i figured id ask first.

Apple :: Mac/PC Windows/Viruses Etc

Jan 26, 2009

I've always used PC's and never tried a mac. I'm not a computer expert by any means, so please bear with me..... My desktop stays on almost 24/7. I get laxed in my virus and spyware scans and usually after 2 years the computer slows to a crawl. I go back and do a reformat (not a whole reformat) through the HP guide, but it's never as fast as new again. Then I either give a PC guy $100 to go over everything or just scrap it and buy a new one. Are virsues and things becoming more common now with macs? If I run windows on a mac, do I need to have the same AV software as I do now? It looks like everything I do now could be done on a mac without any issues with the exception of MS Frontpage. I use that to do some basic business web sites for myself and I suppose I could still use it on a mac in bootcamp or something?
