View 10 RepliesI've had my Studio 1555 for awhile now, and all is has been pretty fine. However, I just noticed that my eject button for the disc drive has stopped working. I rarely use it, but I have used it before.
I upgraded my bios today from A06 to A08 and went to install my new bluetooth mouse, and the eject button just does not respond at all. I can eject the disc from my computer > right clicking the drive and selecting "eject" so it's definitely the button.
I'm not sure if this is related to the bios upgrade or something else.. Computer spec's are in my signature and I'm running Windows 7 Professional, clean install.
I received my 1555 today and am absolutely over the moon. Trying to installing Windows 7 RC on at the moment and apart from some small hiccups - due to user erroor everything is going smoothly. BUT
From the moment I plugged in the a/c power adaptor I noticed that every so often it produces a buzzing noise? It happens every 20sec to 1min or so and last between 1sec to 10sec each time. Does anyone's do that? Not only that, it gets pretty hot as well, when I put my hand on it(on the label side) it feels really hot, in fact so hot that I have to take my hand off unless I 'made' myself stay there. Is this normal?
when I push then power button on, I hear Bips : one long-Two short-Four short...I tried to restart after removing battery & power supply. Pressed power button for about 30-40 sec Put back power supply - but without battery Pressed power button Put battery back in Pressed power button
The result is always the same : bips
I tested RAM on an other laptop : OK
I tested Hard disk on other laptop : OK
When I try to start, the result is always the same : bips
Had the Studio since Wednesday and its great!
However, the power brick has started to make noises? A series of about 10 clicks in quick sucession repeated twice in a couple of seconds.
It will then go quiet for a while then do it again?
Its also pretty hot, too hot to touch for a while and its hot quickly - in about 10mins from cold.
Should I get a replacement or is this normal?
How do I go about getting it replacd? Sounds like its shorting or something?
The feature in Windows 7 that allows you to tell the laptop to stop charging the battery when it's plugged-in and has reached 100% is very cool (and greatly helps prolong the battery's life).

i restarted, and then it would not turn on.
I hit the power button, took off the battery, tried every thing i could think of... (including holding the power button, cause who knows,)
so... i decided to give dell a call...
Despite my lack of service tag or warranty, i was instructed to hold "Power + FN + Esc"
This booted to dell diagnostic mode...from here, i was instructed to cancel right away, then try to boot normally, which worked.
The power button on my XPS 13 has been slowly becoming less and less responsive when the machine is powered off and has now (After ~a year and a half) reached the point where it will no longer power on at all.
What makes this more confusing is that the button seems to work normally whenever the machine is on.
My laptop shutsdown fine but the power button stays on. If I hold the button for a few seconds it will turn off but then I sometimes get an error message when I restart the laptop!
View 2 Replies View RelatedA few days ago I noticed that when I pressed the power button to turn on the computer, there was a delay of about five seconds before the computer reacted..
That was weird, I thought, but nothing unbearable. Today when I started up my computer, not only was there a delay, but when it did start up I got the BSOD.
It was only there for a few seconds so I couldn't read much of what it said.............................................
My daughter was using her laptop (19 months old Inspiron 15R N5010) a couple days ago when all of a sudden, all but the bottom of her screen went black, the bottom was all garbled. Then a weird shrieking noise came out of the laptop and everything powered off (it was on battery). So she plugs in the ac power cord, thinking her battery was dead. Computer started to power on, fans & hard-drive spinning, but no screen at all, all black. After a couple minutes, the same weird shrieking sound and everything off again, but that time, a burnt smell came out of the fan exhaust.
Now, with our without ac power, the only thing that "works" on the laptop is the power button LED, everything else is silent. No fan, no hard-drive, no dvd player spinning. It's out of warranty, unfortunately, and hse needs it for class. I've fixed laptop before, actually on 2 occasions I replaced motherboards on other brand laptops without any issues... but while looking at the inside of the N5010, there are 2 boards inside, the mother board, and the power/ac/wan board...
My laptop, an Inspiron 15R, will not turn on. When I press power button, it beeps 3 times. Owner manuel says 3 beep codes mean possible system board failure - chipset error. As luck would have it my warranty went out in December. Does this mean the hard drive on my computer has crashed?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a Latitude D531 laptop that when I hit the power button, the light comes on but goes off after about 10 seconds. This began when I had it on ansd all of a sudden shut down. One of Dell's people told me to try something but it still shuts off after five or six seconds. I thought it might be a short but am unsure.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI just bought a new laptop as mentioned in the subject and am wondering...
The power button on this laptop never lights up at all.
I can't tell that pressing the power button has done anything at all until I see the screen come on.
Is that normal for this brand of Dell? I mean to have no light on the power button indicating that it has been pressed?
I was wondering if the LED power button on the right side of the laptop could be user modified to change to, let's say blue. Is that possible?
View 10 Replies View RelatedI shutdown my laptop this morning and when I pressed power button aftr about an hour it wouldn't start.
The power light is on, there is no sound, even loadscreen wont show.
I tried re-inserting RAM, Cmos battery and hard drive. It still wont start.
I get 7 beeps after I click the power button. my options but I understand this might mean a processor issue? I am fairly handy so is this something I could do myself if I purchase parts? My laptop is NOT under warranty.

View 1 Replies View RelatedToday suddenly when I press the power button laptop wont turn on at all. It is also plugged in.
I hear people saying when this happens they say remove the battery and hold the power button for 15 seconds but the battery is built in and not removable
Any way my laptop is just 5 months years old and what might causes this problem now?
My Dell 17r will not start and emits a constant, steady beeping. It is not the usual bright beep code, but more of a subdued, muffled beep. It is constant and never stops. There is no code.
I have tried all the other listed fixes or testing that has been posted in about 50 other threads. Powering off, pulling the battery, discharging the extra power, swapping memory around, etc etc.
The problem is slightly intermittent as it will sometimes boot normally. Diagnostics revealed nothing and reports everything is fine.
It doesn't appear heat related either as it can happen when dead cold after sitting for 3 days or after it has been working for an hour in diag mode.
I've got aproblem with my Vostro 3550 - Core i3.
Everytime i shut it down, windows shuts down correctly and the screen goes blank, BUT the power led still burns.
Also the power button is still lighted.
I can't switch it on using the power button. I've to unplug power or hold the power button for 4 sec.
Hardware test runs fine, no problems so far at all.
Nothing changed, only updates for windows.
Tried to boot up my inspiron, and all I got was a black screen, and a loud clicking sound. I have win 8 installed.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI bought an Inspiron 15 3542 laptop and it works fine; the Power button has an LED which never lights up; also, the system LED at the right bottom (front of the laptop), does not light up all the time. It only lights up in white when I start the laptop from sleep or shutdown. Is this a design flaw or is something wrong with the laptop? I have never seen the Power button LED light up, which is annoying since the keyboard area is always dark without any lights; I have a HP Pavilion which has many blue LEDs on the surface and front of the laptop, so I find it weird not to have any lights on the Dell.

I press FN + Power then it start's, Esc then restart, then it works fine ( During restart it gives one pop message at startup: before windows logo appears that its starting from default image, If I carry again the bios Update, this message will not come anymore).
I tried many Bios Versions (A09, A10, A06) and no good luck. B4 I used Dell D630 and after one month, the nvida card was defective ( I threw it out as scrap and still new laptop).
Do I have to threw this to scarp and lose my money again with Dell???
I have had my TZ for a year and 2 weeks ago the power button wont switch the laptop on, when i push it just wont turn on. (nothing to do with the battery). i sent the laptop to sony and they told me it would cost $900 to fix, so i said no way im going to pay that much. so i am now stuck with the TZ, is there an alternate way to put the laptop on?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have an E5430 that when the power button is pressed will not post every time. It is random. I get the power light only. Holding the power button down until it clicks off and pressing it again on the sixth or 19th time it will finally light off and post and head into boot. I have run the full diagnostics and no problems are found. The diagnostic finds no problems so I am wondering if this is a power button problem or something not tied to the MB. The same thing occurs with different batteries and power adapters.
