I have an XPS m1330 (T7500, 3 GB RAM, 8400M GS GPU) and had a bad 6-cell battery that wasn't holding charge.
Dell sent me a replacement, but they've sent me a 9-cell which I don't want b/c it's heavy, adds bulk and most importantly, the angle on the laptop REALLY hurts my wrists... but apparently they won't send out 6-cells as replacements anymore, just 9-cells.
I'm wondering if there's anything I can tell them to get them to send me a 6-cell without having to put my 9-cell on ebay or something .....
I'm looking to get the Studio 1555 and the only thing I'm not sure on right now is which battery to get.
Is it true that the 9 cell sticks out the bottom a little bit? I would just go for the 9 cell, but I use my current laptop on my lap a lot and I'm worried that if the battery sticks out the bottom it would be uncomfortable since the laptop would be resting on two points rather than the entire bottom
how do I check how many cells my battery has? Its either 4 or 6, since it doesn't have the external prop behind it.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell Inspiron 6000 for about 4 years almost. I have 512MB but am going to buy the 2GB ram from newegg because it is very slow.
I am also formating my laptop as well as my desktop. Most of the time i use my desktop but for my laptop i bought a charger that was CHEAP and i think it messed up my battery life a bit.
I just purchased a new charger from Dell and will throw away the bad charger i have.
My battery life in my 6000 is about 40 minutes. It used to be 2 hours and 30 minutes when i first got it. A few months ago it was actually 1 hour and 20 minutes. My neighbor has a e1505 and his battery lasts like 5 minutes now so all he does is use his charger.
I see on Ebay from reputable sellers that the 6 and 9 cell battery price is pretty close. 6 Cell is about 44 dollars and 9 Cell is about 48 dollars.
6 Cell one

i am having a hard time deciding my configuration for a inspiron 13"
i noticed that the Refurbished laptop have a Great price $609, 2.0 intel core 2 duo,4gb,320gb,6cell,Dell 1395 802.11G Wireless Mini Card.
For that price it seems to good to be truth, but i have no experience with refurbished laptop.
What is causing me confusion is, if i should go for a new laptop that has ,2.0ghz(same cpu), 3gb,250gb,intel next gen wireless N, 9 cell battery
for $779, all because the $10 for the wireless and 70$ for the battery
and it has a 195$ discount already of the original price.
so i know that the 6-cell battery lasts about 1h:50mins just doing light stuff such as web-browsing and word processing(maximum brightness, power saving mode). Anyone have any ideas how long the 9-cell can last while just watching movies??
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have an HP Pavilion dv6000. When I purchased the laptop, I chose a 12 cell battery, and it has a sticker on it that states: Replace with 451864-001. My battery went bad, and I purchased a replacement at the HP Parts Store online. I specifically chose a 12 cell replacement, which brought up the same part number, i.e., 451864-001. However, when it came in the mail today, the battery looks like a 6 cell, as it's about 1/3 the size of the old 12 cell, despite my purchase receipt which states that I ordered a 12 cell and the packing slip which also states that HP shipped a 12 cell. The model number of the old battery is HSTNN-DB32, and the model number of the new battery is HSTNN-DB46. Unless they were able to shrink the 12 cell to make it resemble a 6 cell, I'm pretty sure I received a 6 cell, despite the notations in the purchase order and packing slip.
This is a long way of asking, is there a tool that I can install that will tell me how many cells are contained in the battery? The battery, itself, does not state how many cells it contains. If it is a 6 cell, as I suspect, HP will be getting it back.
Couple of questions:
1. Does the 9 cell PROTUDE out the back and is it thicker than the normal 6 cell?
Would love to see a photo comparing both if possible.
2. Practically, in terms of percentage, how much more run time? 50%? 60%?
3. How much more weight?
hey everyone im a new Dell E6400 ATG owner and was wandering what would be a better option for my money? I already have a 9-cell battery and was wondering should I go with another 9-cell or get the 12-cell battery for extending my run time?

I have had a HP Compaq Presario laptop now for a year running Windows Vista Home Basic Version. I am wanting to upgrade to Windows 7 Professional but it is not allowing the upgrade as I have to upgrade to Vista Home Premium first. I have a legal upgrade copy of Vista Home Premium as well as a legal copy of Windows 7 Professional. For some weird reason it is also not allowing the upgrade to Home Premium advising me to do a clean install. The reason I don’t want to do this is because I don’t want to lose the bundled software that originally came with the Home Basic version (Cyberlink/ Power2Go/ DVD Suite/ YouCam etc). I have a Recovery partition on my system as well as 2 backup recovery discs I created when I first purchased the laptop. I am prepared to do a clean install of Windows 7 Professional but only if I can find some way to extract the 3rd party software originally installed (mentioned above) so that I can install it once Windows 7 is up and running. Does anyone know of a way to do this? The recovery partition does not have recognisable setup files for these programs. Please help with any advice you may have.

My question is, if I order a SXPS with Win 7 Home Premium, reformat the hard drive, do a clean install of Win 7 Enterprise, can I reinstally of the the Dell and third party software that came with the system, such as the Blu-Ray software player? Is there any disdavatage to doing a clean install?

View 3 Replies View RelatedAnyone get their battery replaced by a third party company or could recommend somewhere to get it done? My battery only lasts about a day, which isn't bad, but it used to last 3-4 with light usage. Since mine's crackerjacked, I'm guessing I can't send it to Apple for replacement, unless someone cares to inform me otherwise.

I am planning to buy a dell vostro 1520 laptop but I am not sure if I can go for a 6 cell or 9 cell battery.
Will the laptop be projected at the back side if it is loaded with a 9 cell battery? Mine is 240v input current so should I go for a 65w ac adapter or a 90w ac adapter?
Can I go for a 6 cell battery with 90w adapter or a 6 cell battery with 65w adapter? could anyone plz give me comparision?
I know there's a topic on the first page asking about the battery, but it's a different question.
I'm planning to buy either Inspiron or Studio, they are pretty similar price and spec wise.
I want to get a 9 cell battery, but from what I heard/read, it sticks out/protrudes from the laptop, making it what I would find quite unpleasant.
I'm planning to get a 14 or 15 inch, if that has any influence on the answer. (i'm assuming it does, since a smaller laptop would have more chance to have the battery stick out, cause it's smaller, and can't contain the battery within the unit)
My understanding is that FileVault's shortcomings are such:
- Documented vulnerabilities
- Requires that user be logged off to backup with Time Machine
I have a few things on my notebook that I would like to be kept safe in the event of a loss or theft. I used to use AxCrypt on Windows for this, but there are no OSX builds for it, so what I'm wondering is this:
- If I create an encrypted image and use it like a TrueCrypt/Cryptainer partition, will Time Machine back the image up as it changes over time like any other file?
- Is there any reason I shouldn't do that over some other way of keeping things safe?
All those who have a 2010 MBP and a 3rd party SSD, please try setting up bootcamp and let us know if it works.
Has anyone successfully setup bootcamp on any of the new macbook pros? When I use boot camp assistant, I am able to set up the partitions. However, once I enter the windows 7 install, it doesn't detect any partitions at all (not even my mac partition).
I've tried both 32 and 64 bit versions of Windows 7 (home, prof, and ultimate). The SSD is an Intel X25-V 40GB
UPDATE 1: Swapped the stock HDD back in and bootcamp install seems to work fine. Partitions were immediately recognized by my windows 7 ultimate 64-bit. Could Apple have blocked support for 3rd party SSDs somehow with these 2010 MBPs?
I ordered my SXPS on 7/17..
it hasn't shipped yet, so I can probably still take advantage of the 9 cell free upgrade.
I am concerned though, about the size it adds to the laptop - i don't like the bulge much. But I just read elsewhere that the 9 cell fixes some heat issues with the laptop..is this true? And is the difference significant (heat-wise)? I'm reconsidering now..
My Xps m1530, has 15 days left of warranty, and the battery is saying that the capacity is 70%/poor. Design charge 86.6 Wh last full charge of 60.6 Wh. So i was wondering can i get a replacement on warranty, the laptop and battery are under a year old.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI was going to buy the new Dell Inspiron 14, but the Dell rep said that the 4 cell battery doesn't last very long, and recommended the 6 cell. When I asked if the 6 cell stuck out or fit into the laptop, she said she didn't know!
She said it would make the laptop about .35 lbs heavier, which is okay with me, but I can't find information about how it would look. Does anyone know what the 6 cell battery on the Inspiron 14 looks like? Photos or info would be appreciated!
What are you guys averaging for battery time? any chance of hitting 6 hours? I heard the new SXPS hits almost 7 hours

Is it ok to use the 6 cell battery with this laptop? Obviously the battery won't last as long, but will the laptop run ok? I'm asking because my laptop is going to be plugged in on my desk most of the time and the 6 cell keeps the laptop flat.
Well, the latitude E4300 is very cool, i like it, it has great design, but what the hell they were thinking about when they made the 6-cell battery ugly like this?
so i can't get it, we paid like 1500$ for great laptop and we can't enjoy it cause of just a damn battery!
don't you think it is the right time for us to ask about the bay battery for E4300 ? does anybody knows when Dell will lunch the bay battery?
i think i will not use this laptop with this ugly 6-cell batter anymore, i will throw it in a box till getting bay battery!
Just in case anyone wants it, you can get the 9-cell extended battery for the Studio XPS 16 for $59.99 on sale. It's on sale for $79.99 right now and if you apply this additional 25% off coupon it will be only $59.99. Great Deal!

Hoping for some insight.
I have a 90w Dell charger that came with my studio XPS 13 (6 cell).
If I was to use this charger on a 3 cell Dell Inspiron Mini 12, can this seriously damage the 3-cell battery, or are the chargers smart enough to know what type of battery they're charging?
I know there currently is a 6-cell and a 9-cell for the M4400.
However I also remember reading that Dell has a 12-cell out for some notebooks in the new E-series.
Does anyone know whether there is going to be a 12-cell battery that can be used with the M4400?
