Apple :: Third Party To Gain Access To An Inbuilt Web Cam
Feb 22, 2010
Is it possible for a third party to gain access to an inbuilt web cam without the knowledge of the owner? ie. is there a known 'hack' that we should all be aware of?
For example, if i go to Support /Â Inspiron 7720 System BIOS for WIN8/WIN7 for my 7720, I get a "Drivers & Downloads Error, an error occurred while processing your request".
Anyone get their battery replaced by a third party company or could recommend somewhere to get it done? My battery only lasts about a day, which isn't bad, but it used to last 3-4 with light usage. Since mine's crackerjacked, I'm guessing I can't send it to Apple for replacement, unless someone cares to inform me otherwise.
My understanding is that FileVault's shortcomings are such:
- Documented vulnerabilities - Requires that user be logged off to backup with Time Machine
I have a few things on my notebook that I would like to be kept safe in the event of a loss or theft. I used to use AxCrypt on Windows for this, but there are no OSX builds for it, so what I'm wondering is this:
- If I create an encrypted image and use it like a TrueCrypt/Cryptainer partition, will Time Machine back the image up as it changes over time like any other file? - Is there any reason I shouldn't do that over some other way of keeping things safe?
All those who have a 2010 MBP and a 3rd party SSD, please try setting up bootcamp and let us know if it works.
Has anyone successfully setup bootcamp on any of the new macbook pros? When I use boot camp assistant, I am able to set up the partitions. However, once I enter the windows 7 install, it doesn't detect any partitions at all (not even my mac partition).
I've tried both 32 and 64 bit versions of Windows 7 (home, prof, and ultimate). The SSD is an Intel X25-V 40GB
UPDATE 1: Swapped the stock HDD back in and bootcamp install seems to work fine. Partitions were immediately recognized by my windows 7 ultimate 64-bit. Could Apple have blocked support for 3rd party SSDs somehow with these 2010 MBPs?
When I go away for work travel, I need to have access to my PST files that I bring along. On my old T60, I used a cracked version of Outlook 2k. It was clunky, but did the job. Are there any Mac-based programs that will let me view my PST files and pull out any attachments or emails I may need?
I have had a HP Compaq Presario laptop now for a year running Windows Vista Home Basic Version. I am wanting to upgrade to Windows 7 Professional but it is not allowing the upgrade as I have to upgrade to Vista Home Premium first. I have a legal upgrade copy of Vista Home Premium as well as a legal copy of Windows 7 Professional. For some weird reason it is also not allowing the upgrade to Home Premium advising me to do a clean install. The reason I don’t want to do this is because I don’t want to lose the bundled software that originally came with the Home Basic version (Cyberlink/ Power2Go/ DVD Suite/ YouCam etc). I have a Recovery partition on my system as well as 2 backup recovery discs I created when I first purchased the laptop. I am prepared to do a clean install of Windows 7 Professional but only if I can find some way to extract the 3rd party software originally installed (mentioned above) so that I can install it once Windows 7 is up and running. Does anyone know of a way to do this? The recovery partition does not have recognisable setup files for these programs. Please help with any advice you may have.
New HP Pavilion 15-p067ca notebook. Strong echo when the other person is listening to me on Skype. I have watched HP troubleshooting video and tried all suggestions. I also hear the stong echoy sounds when I turn on the listening in the sound control box.I am about to return the laptop before the 14 days runs out , but thought i would check here.
I newly purchased G510 which came with Intel HD Graphics 4600... I'm using Windows 7, 32bit OS as my business application works only on 32 bit.....Since i have configured for 32 bit i see RAM availability is showing 2.6GB....I know to show 4GB i need to install 64bit OS..My question is, can i disable graphics option in BIOS so my RAM gets more space...If so, how to do it in BIOS and is it safe?
Manufacturer had given inbuilt windows 7 operating system which start by pressing F11 at boot.
At the time of installing external operating system through DVD, I unfortunately, by mistake I deleted all existing partition, I think, I deleted that partition which contain inbuilt OS in hard drive.
Now I am willing to install inbuilt OS by pressing F11, but this way not working. How I can install inbuilt windows 7 operating system just as previous start from by pressing F11 at boot.
I recently bought the dos version of 15-r006tu and upgraded with pre bought windows 8.1 but am unable to install the inbuit bluetooth device that comes with the notebook. The device manager displays a PCi device in nor installed but I have installed all the drivers provided in the hp website. Downloaded the driver 8 times from the website (complete 88.5 mb) but the installation stops prematurely.
I am an HP DV6-6c38TX running Windows 7 x64. I also have VMWare Workstation 10 installed.  Drivers installed for the webcam are :  ksthunk.sys usbvideo.sys  Issues:  1) running in normal Windows 7 x64 base machine (not VMWare)  a) after booting the laptop I can use the webcam b) I run an app to capture an image and it works fine. I then close the app. c) I open Skype and use the webcam and then Exit Skype. d) I open the app again and it says - could not detect webcam device (assuming this comes from the app) f) I open Skype and check the webcam and it works. I stop the webcam (Skype still running) g) I start the app again and now the webcam works h) I Quit Skype, runthe app again, and it now says - could not detect webcam device  That is just for the Laptop running as is.  2) VMWare  now in VMWare, this is worse.  a) I attach the Webcam b) I run the same app, but it says - could not detect webcam device c) I close VWMare d) Now no app detects the webcam, not the app, not Skype. e) I check the Device Manager and in fact the webcam now does not even appear in the Dedvice Manager...
do you usually use Vaio Care via ASSIST button? I found that Vaio Care does not have enough feature as other system tools on the market, as well as it runs too slowly so I decide to uninstall it and use a better 3rd party tool.
software that can take care of my notebook?
after uninstalling Vaio Care, the ASSIST button does not run anymore, I'm wondering if I can use it to execute an application.
I just installed a clean copy of Snow Leopard but now I don't have permission to access my Time Machine backups, the drive itself shows all the dates of the backups like this:[url]
But say when I try to open any given folders inside the backup it says I don't have permission to do so: [url]
When I enter Time Machine it shows the folders as empty with the red no access icon on desired folders.
I have 2 computers at home: the Macbook Pro and a desktop. I was thinking of getting an Airport Extreme router... I want to be able to access the hard disk of the desktop, from the Macbook. Can Airport Extreme do that?
I'm willing to purchase my first Macbook Pro, but I have one huge question mark in mind: Will I get to access all my data on my NTFS-formated external hard drives? If so, how, is it natively supported with Mac OS X?
I get a free copy of Windows 7 Enterprise from my school. My question is, if I order a SXPS with Win 7 Home Premium, reformat the hard drive, do a clean install of Win 7 Enterprise, can I reinstally of the the Dell and third party software that came with the system, such as the Blu-Ray software player? Is there any disdavatage to doing a clean install?
I have VAIO CR: VGN-CR25G/R. There is something wrong with my inbuilt camera. It works perfectly fine when i use it for webcam chat on msn. However, it doesn't work (in fact, it doesn't react at all) when i press the "CAPTURE" button on my laptop keyboard. Do you know why this is the case? And how can i fix it?
I went to Device Manager > Imaging Devices > Sony Visual Communication Camera and it tells me that the "device is working properly"
I just double-clicked a .xls document on MacOSX and despite having iWork installed it resirted to opening up Microsoft Excel in Parallels.
Now i know i can go and change what application opens up .xls docs permanently, but there must be a way to disable and completely prevent this action happening with any document on OSX.
Basically, i never ever want OSX to even consider opening Parallels to open a document. Does anyone know where that setting could be?
This is weird. Previously I have two active partitions on my acer 8930G-7665. Drive C: is 250GB and Drive D: is 250GB
Currently Drive D: is missing. I went to the disk management under WIN7 to mount or even assigned a drive letter to my inaccessible partition.
Disk Management can see the inaccessible partion but the problem is that the program wont give me any option to play with when I right click it. Please see attachment ...
I need to open up my hp dv4000 to see if the dc is loose. Before I go taking every screw out of this thing and removing things I may not have to remove, can anyone tell me the quickest way to access this?
Just as a background, the problem is that I need to rig up the power supply cable to that it's pulled taut in a certain way, just to power my computer. If it moves the slightest bit the computer shuts down. My battery won't charge either. My educated guess is that best case scenario, it's a loose connection. Worst case it's the motherboard.
I'm trying to access a flash drive on an Old Dell computer. I cannot access the Windows folders or install paths on the harddrive. I do believe the flash drives are installed, but they will not show up when put in the computer. The computer should be around 7 years old.
I can try to get more information out of the computer, I would just need to know where to find it (as it is not mine). It is a desktop and not a laptop BTW. It has never been formatted.
