Dell :: Access Is Denied
Dec 23, 2008
I'm in a state of massive rage at the moment.
I noticed I've been getting a lot of WoW exception errors.
So I decided to install some new graphic drivers for my 8600GTm in my m1530.
BUT! Whatever driver I try to install, ALWAYS comes up with this bloody error:
I'm following the have disk methods as told by laptop2go, but I can't get this working!

I just bought a new HP ProBook 450 G1... running Windows 7...I inserted a USB flash drive to copy some some files from my other compute, and got the Windows Messgae "You don't currently have access to open this folder", then I press the "continue" button, and get the message "You have been denied permission to access this folder", and it says "To gain access to this folder you will need to use the security tab".
I click on the "security tab" link, but there is not any "security tab" in the properties menu for the flash drive.
My logon is the administrator and has all accesses checked'.
I also tried other flash drives and a USB harddrive, and access was denied on all of them.

I was very excited to order a dell vostro 1520 online, and i got a great deal on it. i ordered the laptop on the 14th of this month, and according to the email they sent me, it was supposed to be delivered by the 30th... which is pretty late but since i was getting a pretty good deal IMO, i thought "whatever, as long as its here before may 4th".
however, earlier today i got a call from dell telling me that they wont be able to build the laptop since they dont make them anymore.... ??? couldnt they have told me this EARLIER like say, LAST WEEK?
the dell vostro 1520 is STILL listed on their website (dell.com and click on small business) along with many other laptops. i dont know what to do at this point. obviously i will have to order another laptop, and it will come VERY late according to my schedules and time constraints... but which dell laptop can i order and which shouldnt i even bother with since they dont build it anymore and apparently are too lazy to update the website?

I'm trying to access a flash drive on an Old Dell computer. I cannot access the Windows folders or install paths on the harddrive. I do believe the flash drives are installed, but they will not show up when put in the computer. The computer should be around 7 years old.
I can try to get more information out of the computer, I would just need to know where to find it (as it is not mine). It is a desktop and not a laptop BTW. It has never been formatted.

I have been having numerous problems with the BIOS where it will not allow boot device additions, required two power-ups to boot W8, and finally today I can not even get into the BIOS A12 (latest) with F2 or F12. Pushing F2 and F12 was completely ignored by the BIOS as it would only boot W8, even though it worked fine until yesterday. I finally had to pull the hard drive to get the BIOS to give up and let me in.
Seems to have a mind of its own but it did present the BIOS menu. I had no problem using F2 & F12 on BIOS versions A10, A11, A12 before today except A12 did delete all the boot device priorities when initially loaded a week ago. That glitch caused the two power-ups everyone is starting to see. The two power-ups are gone now but I need access occasionally for DVD's. Seems like there is some type of adaptive "smart" (I call it "dumb") strategy in the BIOS that really confuses us users to the point where I am wasting way too much time chasing phantoms.
The really big problem is that there are zero (none) Manuals with this computer. The maintenance disassembly manuals are even gone. No one has any write-up of how the BIOS is supposed to operate? Dell explain how this BIOS is to be used to add boot devices? Pulling HDD's is not the answer for most users as we are just going to wear out the HDD electrical bus connector when you want to boot a legacy MBR ( or an .ISO) DVD.
If you already have BIOS A10 installed. Version A10 was the last unlocked BIOS while A11 and A12 are locked right up and very unpredictable in behaviour. Deleting A10 and the maintenance manuals from the download site is pretty vicious on Dells part in my mind. The maintenance manuals were called "Owners" or "User" Manuals of which the obvious intent was to cover up there are no real owners manual to explain the basics like the Function Keys to get into the BIOS and use it.

Model: Inspiron 17R Special Edition Inspiron 17R Notebook (Inspiron 7720), Windows 8, 64-bit,English
My laptop was installing updates (not sure which updates) when the battery suddenly died. I charged it and ever since every time I turn it on, it gives me an error message and I'm unable to log into my system
error message is: BAD_SYS-CONF_INFO
I've tried accessing the BIOS with F2 button upon start up many times to check the settings but no luck. Pressing F2 constantly right when the Dell logo appears does absolutely nothing. get back into Windows without reinstalling and losing everything

I notice that the FAservice (Fast access) uses more than 1% of the CPU all the time. That is too much for me. Such a service should be near 0% as the welcome page is off.
Do you experience the same thing?
I don't uninstall it at the moment but if I can't find a solution I will do to not short my time on batteries soon.

I let a family member borrow my laptop and it came back with cryptowall2.0 and another one (cant remember which one it was) because they had somehow disabled my antivirus (panda pro) and my anti-malware (malwarebytes). But i got the infections themselves removed and cleaned but my files are still all encrypted. No big deal, MOST of the important stuff was backed up online and on flash drives. Tried restoring to a previous point but didn't work. So now i can't access my admin account AT ALL. I can log into it but the screen stays black with just the pointer. I can log into the guest account.
But i can't do ANYTHING from there and put it that way on purpose. How do i fix this??? Will a factory restore fix the damage from the ransomware infections??? Is there ANY way to save my files? Well, i guess none of that matters if i can't get into the admin account first... This is the ONLY computer i have access to, i can use my smartphone for accessing information and whatnot but connecting drive to an external drive on a secondary computer is out of the question....

I ran a full diagnostics yesterday and it took about an hour without any errors. But still when I try to boot up it will not go past the blinking cursor. I have tried to get into advance recovery or safe mode but every time I have the option to press f2 or f12 and I press f8 it does nothing but start making a sound. f2 and f12 work to get into bios and the other option but I can't seem to access safe mode.

Can anyone who recently purchased an XPS 13/16 confirm whether or not they received the fast access cd and microfiber sleeve? I bought an XPS 16 and was told bya tech that fast access is not available as a disc and that the sleeves are no longer being shipped with the systems.
01/28/2010 02:09:09PMAgent (Adi akhil_199538): "Well we don't have the disc for the fast access and we made it easy for our customers to download from the site."
01/28/2010 02:09:38PMAgent (Adi akhil_199538): "And regarding the Microfiber Dell Sleeve, Dell use to be ship the Sleeve long back and it is been stopped."

What I Was Doing:
All I wanted to do was install an SSD (SanDisk Extreme 240GB) as my primary drive using factory recovery created from Dell Backup and Recovery/Recovery Media from USB drive.... I was trying to update firmware on the SSD. It requires a download and the creation of a thumb drive to which one boots after adding it in the BIOS. Ever since I tried using that thumb drive during boot (on power up it was in a USB slot with the intention of opening BIOS and setting that thumb drive as a boot device to complete firmware update) things have been a mess.
The Problems:
I have run into a situation where no matter what key I press during startup, it has no impact on the startup. Main problem is that F2 will not open BIOS. F12 does not show Boot Order.
Here are the symptoms:
Cannot access BIOS or Boot Order during POST All partitions on the factory 1TB hard drive now show in Windows File Explorer whereas previously only the partition labeled C: OS was shown
Potentially Stupid Things I Tried:
I discovered that if there are no hard drives installed, the system will boot to a DOS-type screen with options for Boot Order (with no drives it lists only Network Boot), Setup, Diagnostics, and Boot Configuration.
Setup takes me to the BIOS (vA11) but obviously with no drives showing Diagnostics takes to me to a test suite which when run gives me an error on the video memory but all else tests OK (tests of the video memory from within the Dell Suite within Win 8 show no errors) Boot Configuration gives me Legacy, UEFI Secure and UEFI Not Secure
I also downgraded the BIOS from A11 to A08 and then back to A11 in hopes of getting back access to BIOS but no luck.

I have the following problem: I set up an Administrator Account with password security and then add a Dell Security with fingerpint security. Now, I cannot access the Windows. The problem is the TPM cannot be connected or something like that. The scan says it accepts the scanned finger, and password is also Ok. How can I disable secure access or reset password, disable fingerprint control, etc. In BIOS I do not find any possibility to disable fingerpint but TPM activation/deactivation is there.

This is weird. Previously I have two active partitions on my acer 8930G-7665.
Drive C: is 250GB and Drive D: is 250GB
Currently Drive D: is missing. I went to the disk management under WIN7 to mount or even assigned a drive letter to my inaccessible partition.
Disk Management can see the inaccessible partion but the problem is that the program wont give me any option to play with when I right click it. Please see attachment ...

I need to open up my hp dv4000 to see if the dc is loose. Before I go taking every screw out of this thing and removing things I may not have to remove, can anyone tell me the quickest way to access this?
Just as a background, the problem is that I need to rig up the power supply cable to that it's pulled taut in a certain way, just to power my computer. If it moves the slightest bit the computer shuts down. My battery won't charge either. My educated guess is that best case scenario, it's a loose connection. Worst case it's the motherboard.
