I have a sister living in Calgary with a 30-inch iMac, and I live in Toronto with a host of Windows PCs.
She always has problems with her ipods, tomtom GPS unit etc. and she is not very tech savvy, so explaining something to her is.
is there any way I can remotely connect and use her desktop from where I currently am on a PC?
My friend wants me to bring him oblivion, as he believes it will run it well (high or max settings). He has a Dell XPS M1330 laptop.
I recently ordered a Sager NP2096 pretty much specifically for oblivion, but also for hauling around a uni campus, so i wanted something light. I was told the NP2096 would run it at medium-high settings.
His dell XPS is very light, which confused me, as i thought that the XPS gaming laptops were very heavy (11 pounds), then i looked up the specs and found that his XPS isn't a gaming model.
When talking to him i was under the impression that i made a mistake ordering the Sager, because according to him, his XPS was lighter, slightly cheaper, and would even play oblivion better. I don't want to regret my purchase.
When I go away for work travel, I need to have access to my PST files that I bring along. On my old T60, I used a cracked version of Outlook 2k. It was clunky, but did the job. Are there any Mac-based programs that will let me view my PST files and pull out any attachments or emails I may need?

But say when I try to open any given folders inside the backup it says I don't have permission to do so: [url]
When I enter Time Machine it shows the folders as empty with the red no access icon on desired folders.
I have 2 computers at home: the Macbook Pro and a desktop. I was thinking of getting an Airport Extreme router... I want to be able to access the hard disk of the desktop, from the Macbook. Can Airport Extreme do that?

View 10 Replies View RelatedI just double-clicked a .xls document on MacOSX and despite having iWork installed it resirted to opening up Microsoft Excel in Parallels.
Now i know i can go and change what application opens up .xls docs permanently, but there must be a way to disable and completely prevent this action happening with any document on OSX.
Basically, i never ever want OSX to even consider opening Parallels to open a document. Does anyone know where that setting could be?
How do I access the HDD on this thing? There is no HDD door like on most laptops. I add SSDs to everything I own. Spinning HDDs are too slow.

This is weird. Previously I have two active partitions on my acer 8930G-7665.
Drive C: is 250GB and Drive D: is 250GB
Currently Drive D: is missing. I went to the disk management under WIN7 to mount or even assigned a drive letter to my inaccessible partition.
Disk Management can see the inaccessible partion but the problem is that the program wont give me any option to play with when I right click it. Please see attachment ...
I need to open up my hp dv4000 to see if the dc is loose. Before I go taking every screw out of this thing and removing things I may not have to remove, can anyone tell me the quickest way to access this?
Just as a background, the problem is that I need to rig up the power supply cable to that it's pulled taut in a certain way, just to power my computer. If it moves the slightest bit the computer shuts down. My battery won't charge either. My educated guess is that best case scenario, it's a loose connection. Worst case it's the motherboard.
I'm trying to access a flash drive on an Old Dell computer. I cannot access the Windows folders or install paths on the harddrive. I do believe the flash drives are installed, but they will not show up when put in the computer. The computer should be around 7 years old.
I can try to get more information out of the computer, I would just need to know where to find it (as it is not mine). It is a desktop and not a laptop BTW. It has never been formatted.
Is there some sotr of program installed that allows you to use the webcam?

View 4 Replies View Relatedi have a ten year old Sony Laptop w/ win98 OS. haven't run it in years and just recently started it up. the battery is long dead but it runs ok on AC it booted up and everything worked. i used the floppy and cd rom drives extensively and then decided to do a format and install Win98SE. after format and startup w/ cd rom support i found that i couldnot access the cd rom drive. i went into F2 setup and the drive is listed there, i also set the bios to the default setting but still have the same problem ..

I then checked to see if another drive letter was used for cd rom. none were !
the cd rom drive opens and closes ok. boot sequence is cdrom-floppy-HD. if i remove the startup floppy and leave the win98 disk in drive the boot stops with the message " Invalid System Disk" so- it seems the system is accessing the cd rom at this point..

I have searched the issue and all I can see is I have to flash the bios. I am not comfortable doing that because I have done this before on my Alienware and it took me three days to restart the computer. Everything was messed up.
All I want to be able to do is charge USB devices when the computer is in sleep mode. I have set Windows 8 power mode up, but it appears the BIOS is still preventing this from happening. I'm a high school junior with a year+ old Acer computer that has broken down twice and is now out of warranty. I purchased this computer with my own money.
My Aspire M laptop will not boot due to the 'boot configuration file being invalid', at least, this is what the 'Recovery' blue screen states. The blue screen offeres to 'Press Esc for UEFI Firmware settings, but is not responsive. I've tried F2, F8, F10, Alt+F10, F12, Space Bar, Delete and Break to try to activate the BIOS interface, all equally unsuccessful.
I followed the instructions to purchase recovery tools from Acer, but without being able to access the BIOS to set the boot order, I've just sunk another $25 into a laptop that doesn't work.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have been having numerous problems with the BIOS where it will not allow boot device additions, required two power-ups to boot W8, and finally today I can not even get into the BIOS A12 (latest) with F2 or F12. Pushing F2 and F12 was completely ignored by the BIOS as it would only boot W8, even though it worked fine until yesterday. I finally had to pull the hard drive to get the BIOS to give up and let me in.
Seems to have a mind of its own but it did present the BIOS menu. I had no problem using F2 & F12 on BIOS versions A10, A11, A12 before today except A12 did delete all the boot device priorities when initially loaded a week ago. That glitch caused the two power-ups everyone is starting to see. The two power-ups are gone now but I need access occasionally for DVD's. Seems like there is some type of adaptive "smart" (I call it "dumb") strategy in the BIOS that really confuses us users to the point where I am wasting way too much time chasing phantoms.
The really big problem is that there are zero (none) Manuals with this computer. The maintenance disassembly manuals are even gone. No one has any write-up of how the BIOS is supposed to operate? Dell explain how this BIOS is to be used to add boot devices? Pulling HDD's is not the answer for most users as we are just going to wear out the HDD electrical bus connector when you want to boot a legacy MBR ( or an .ISO) DVD.
If you already have BIOS A10 installed. Version A10 was the last unlocked BIOS while A11 and A12 are locked right up and very unpredictable in behaviour. Deleting A10 and the maintenance manuals from the download site is pretty vicious on Dells part in my mind. The maintenance manuals were called "Owners" or "User" Manuals of which the obvious intent was to cover up there are no real owners manual to explain the basics like the Function Keys to get into the BIOS and use it.
I'd like to install a SSD in my Envy 17 laptop, however after looking at the under side casing I'm stumped as there seem to be no panels to remove.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI purchased a new Flex 2-15 online the past week. The model name shown on the back is "20405". Manufacture date is May 12, 2014. The User Guide refers to a "Novo Button", which is shown in diagrams as being on both the left edge and the right edge near the front. Neither location has a button of any sort. The right edge has a pinhole in the supposed button location. A curved arrow icon is next to the pinhole. I have an inkling this may be some sort of factory reset button. Lacking the Novo button, what is the procedure for accessing the features which the manual says are accessed by pressing this non-existent button?. That is, BIOS, and/or the one touch image backup/restore system?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm writing a C/C++ program to communicate between my HP 15-doo4au laptop and a DISTO D510 laser measuring device, which requires bluetooth 4 low energy (BLE).
I can pair to the device in Windows 8.1, but bluetooth 4 doesn't seem available via C/C++. If I call the Microsoft function BluetoothIsVersionAvailable(), it only succeeds for at most bluetooth 2.1. Why?
I suspect this is more a configuration/driver issue than a programming one. Is there a better driver I need to install to bring this laptop's bluetooth spec up to full Bluetooth 4 support?
I was trying to access my BIOS recently, but whenever I attempt to do so, all I get is a constant beep sound. I used to be able to access the BIOS just fine, but now I can't. The computer itself still boots fine, though I also can't select any boot options either.
I thought I could fix this by resetting the BIOS, but there doesn't appear to be any way of doing that. The CMOS battery is nowhere to be found, and there is no BIOS update for the Y510p that I can apply.
I can get back into the BIOS?

View 10 Replies View RelatedI just bought a new HP ProBook 450 G1... running Windows 7...I inserted a USB flash drive to copy some some files from my other compute, and got the Windows Messgae "You don't currently have access to open this folder", then I press the "continue" button, and get the message "You have been denied permission to access this folder", and it says "To gain access to this folder you will need to use the security tab".
I click on the "security tab" link, but there is not any "security tab" in the properties menu for the flash drive.
My logon is the administrator and has all accesses checked'.
I also tried other flash drives and a USB harddrive, and access was denied on all of them.
