Dell :: 5150 Power Problem
Mar 11, 2010
hi all, i have a dell 5150 about 5 years old i replaced the battery because i thought it was done for well i put the new battery in and it looked like it was charging but 3 hours later it is on the same percentage when i installed it, did not charge what so ever, i tested laptop by unplugging it to see if it would run on battery power laptop will not turn on with battery but will turn on with the ac connected, i tried my old battery to test it but now laptop says WARNING: The battery cannot be identified.
This system will be unable to charge this battery. when i put new one back in it boots like normal but does not charge it every thing is up to date on laptop even my bios i run xp home could this be an internal power supply problem?

I thought my motherboard went bad (my own testing and also took it to a friend that owns a repair shop). Ordered a new one, installed it, now I only have the charge LED and power LED on solid regardless of AC power or battery. I have my S-I-L's 5150 and tried her battery and AC brick, all with the same result. I removed the optical drive, hard drive, wireless card, modem, memory modules, and to no avail. I pulled apart the motherboard again just to make sure I had the CPU seated properly and it is.

I have a Insp. 5150 and only use it for my growing DJ busniess, I purchased a portable HD to hold my music, the HD uses 2 USB plugs,
there is no other place to plug a mouse in I purchased a USB hub to give me extra slots to plug my mouse in but the laptop will not work with it tells me something about overloading the usb ports is there anyway
I can make this work? or any sugestions? the touch pad really sucks for trying to navigate and I need the ability of a mouse

I have a laptop that has a processor microcode update failure message on startup.
It would boot fine after I pressed F1 but last week I tried reinstalling Windows and the after the computer restarts, it locks up when it gets to the windows logo and scrolling bar (before the Windows classic screen where you put in the name, date, time, etc.).
Ive tried using 2 different Dell reinstallation discs and a Windows disc but it always happens in the same place.
I checked for a BIOS update but there was never a newer revision for it...A38 or A39.
What could be wrong? I don't have a Dell resource CD to run diagnostics.

I have a Dell Latitude D800 that will not power on. When the power button is pushed the green power indicator light comes on, the CDROM spins for a moment, but then nothing happens, there is no BIOS information displayed, no power on self test, no Dell logo. It just sits there with the green power light on.I have tried removing the power & battery then pressing the power button for 10 seconds (actually, I have tried as long as 60 seconds). I have tried to turn on with the power connected but not the battery. I have tried removing the connector cable for the power button and the connector cable for the display and then reseating them.

Our Studio 1749 will retain a solid connection when the power adapter is plugged into the power board along the side of my laptop. I am unsure if the pins residing in the power board are pushed toward each other so as to not retain connection when the adpater in plugged into the laptop.

When I pull the power cord to switch to battery power while in Windows my lcd goes to black. The only way I get my video back is a hard reset and reboot. Later on I tried this and everything was back to normal. Why is this happening? Is this some weird standby?

I have just installed an i7 2670Qm on my T420 today. The machine will crash pretty soon after booting up, with the screen having colorful vertical and horizontal lines before it restarts itself and give the memory error beeping pattern (1 beep-pause-3 beeps-3 beeps-pause-1 beep). So then I took out one RAM from the bottom, and the machine appears to work normally again, more or less.
In the OS (Win7 64), The power manager alerts me that the 65w AC adapter is giving not enough power, so the laptop is running on battery. I thought I just need a 90W AC brick so the laptop will work as it should, so I am arranging a 90w one to come in later. But on a second thought, if the battery cannot start the laptop with 8GB of RAM properly.
Is it the CPU or RAM or Mobo or something else? Where should I look? The machine works fine with the previous CPU i3-2310m and 8GB of RAM.The RAM modules I have are 2 x 4GB Samsung 2Rx8 PC3-12800S-11-11-F3.The BIOS version is updated to the latest 1.46.

I enjoy the feature of automatically powering off the optical drive in power manager. My issue is after reformatting my T530 the option is there until I do an update using the Lenovo ThinkVantage System Update. One of the updates seems to remove the feature from the power manager.

After replacing the fan, I have a power up issue with the laptop. Basically, the laptop will only power on with the power cable disconnected at the motherboard. It was by mistake that after the fan was replaced and everything was put back together, that I noticed that the battery was not charging.
I then reopened the machine and reconnected the power cable to the motherboard and nothing - no power.
When plugging in the power source with the battery in place, the LED adjacent to the power socket lights up WHITE then stays ORANGE and will not power up. No other lights, no fan noise, nothing.
If I remove the battery, the LED adjacent to the power socket lights up WHITE and stays white however will not power up either. Same agin, no other LEDs, not fan noise, nothing.
I have now opened the machine back up and disconnected the power from the motherboard. Put it all back together and the laptop powers up as normal with the battery and it works fine. (Well until the battery runs out anyway).

I'm having some issues with my MacBook's USB hub. I have the macbook from 2007 I believe that has 2.0GHz and 1GB of RAM. WHenever I connect my iPhone to the USB port to sync, it pops up with this dialog box that says that my iPhone is drawing too much power and thus the USB hub will be deactivated.

I have an Aspire 6930 that suddenly died and will not power on. The LED power button was dark and unresponsive. I performed a power reset and the blue light on the power button came back on until I pressed the button to try to restart the laptop. When I did that, the blue LED immediately went dark and stayed that way until I did another power reset. It never gets to the point of anything powering on. Is it a problem with the battery or it the laptop toast?
This is a real bummer since I just replaced the hard drive a few weeks ago and replaced Windows Vista with Linux Mint (which btw is blazing fast compared to Vista).

I have a D800 I haven't used in about 10 monthes. I took it out of the bag and charged the battery.
When I turn it on, it boots approximately one third of the way through the loading bar for the BIOS, and then it powers off.
I've tried it with both the power cable and battery, just power cable, and just battery; and it behaves the same way. Last time I used it, it was working fine.

I was just wondering, what power setting do you all run your computers on? Balanced, power saver, or high performance? Is there a benefit to running balanced? Also, do any of you have custom power settings such as the ones dell offers, if so how do those work for you?

My parents have an E1505. The battery crapped out after about a year and we've been running on AC power (with the battery in).
Eventually the charger broke at the laptop side plug. We got a new one off ebay (china junk) and it worked for a bit. Now it turns on and shuts right off.
If I remove the battery and run straight AC, it doesn't even power on. The connector is really loose. Any way to fix it?

I've just received my Dell m1530 about a half hour ago. I plugged in the power supply (which has a solid green light) and turned on the laptop. The only thing that happens is I can hear the fan turn on.. no display, nothing illuminates, the only lights on are the blinking wi-fi symbol.
This is my first time dealing with Dell and so far it's been a nightmare.. did I get a lemon out of the box, or is it something small I'm overlooking? I'm dreading the idea of having to call tech support after dealing with their customer service.

Forgive me if this is a easily solved problem, but I am not at all tech savvy. I have owned the 1530 for a little over a year now and I've run into a problem with my system.
While using my computer the power ran out and when I turned it on I found that it wouldn't fully start.
It would pass the Dell screen and would reach the Window Error Recovery screen. Regardless of what option I choose it goes to the green bar and it just moves indefinitely.

My 2.5 year old Dell XPS M1330 would not power up. (An overheating gpu/motherboard was replaced 1.5 yrs ago from Hong Kong Dell).
I installed windows update then it is in auto shut down after installing.
I booted it, it was updating some dir files in DOS (the usual), then screen goes black for a moment, I thought it just preparing to go to Windows logo but suddenly it powered off by itself.
Then after that, it won't power up anymore.
It won't power up through battery and AC adapter plugged in. Tried other combinations also.

I'm not a native english speaker but I'm trying to explain my problem as accurate as possible.
Since a few months my Dell D610 won't power up regularly when I press the power button. There are no lights visible when the button is pressed as there're no other signs of powering up the harddisk or cpu fan noise etc.
The weird thing about this is that from time to time the machine does power up even instantly. But obviously I can't rely on these random and rare moments. So I tried different scenarios with and w/o battery (battery is charged) with a different power adapter, different power outlets .....
