Dell :: I Spilled Isopropyl On My Motherboard

Nov 17, 2007

So I was appying AS5 onto my processor and trying to clean things up and get a good application (Right now i'm overclocked to 2.8 and it says I'm 37 C) So I'm glad that it worked out.

But anyways I accidently knocked over my bottle of Isopropyl Alcohol 91% onto my motherboard and the left hand corner of it got about 3-4 tablespoons worth. and I think it might have gotten into the socket board. I was worried as I should be. But cloth dryed all of it and then put it back together and it wouldn't boot up. Just the Green Light Flash.

So I then re-opened it and let it air dry for a few mins and tried my best to clean out the entire motherboard and then I booted it up again, and it worked.

So I suppose I was very lucky, but I'm curious as to how close to disaster was I? and should I be using 100% Isopropyl?

The m1710 is now running great, and with this CPU upgrade I think I'm going to keep my M1710 for a little longer, I really like it.

Dell :: I Spilled Water On My Laptop

Dec 15, 2008

Wouldn't you know it, I have been clumsy as can be today; I spilled three drinks. The first two were no real big deal, but the last one was right on the top of my 1420! Before I could do anything, it shut down and I don't know if it was in my mind or what, but I thought I could hear faint sizzling. Now I'm waiting for it to dry only so I can confirm I am hosed. Looks like I am stuck with a minimum of $200 for a new motherboard provided I haven't fried anything else. What a crappy end to a day...

I'm switching to sippy cups!

Dell :: Spilled Beer On My XPS M1730

Dec 7, 2009

I threw up on my XPS M1730. When I jumped up to grab a towell, I spilled almost half of a 12 oz bottle of Guinness Extra Stout into the computer. I called Dell, and they told me I would have to send it to the depot for repairs. I got the box and sent it in today. I was just wondering how long it usually takes for them to fix and return the computer to me.

Dell :: Spilled Soda On My Laptop, Any Hope?

Apr 21, 2009

I knocked some soda onto my computer while doing homework, it was on the top right hand corner of the keyboard. Its an e1505 from a litte over 2&1/2 years ago (warranty is out).

I let it dry under a fan for an hour, then left it another hour. It worked fine, but 1 speaker didn't work.

I turned it off, but I tried to turn it back on to print something about an hour later and it wouldn't turn on. It said "no bootable device". It would run a dell diagnostic though

Dell :: Spilled Water On My E1705- Keyboard

Sep 14, 2007

I accidentally spilled some water on my laptop this evening. i dried everything out and everything seems to be working fine..except for that my left "Ctrl" key is acting really weird. Something is making it seem like it's being constantly held down (although it physically isn't). The only way I can disable this is through the On-Screen Keyboard in Windows XP. But after hitting the particular Ctrl key, it goes back to being held down again. Is there anything I can do to fix this? Or is this something that wouldn't cost too much to repair?

Dell :: Spilled Soft Drink Onto My 9400

Mar 31, 2008

Late last year, I spilled a substantial amount of soft drink onto my 9400.

It was under completecare, so the Dell tech came round and replaced the motherboard, keyboard and touchpad...he just cleaned everything else with isopropyl or something.
That was about a week before my warranty ran out....but the laptop was working fine, so I had no problem.

Now, a few months later, I am getting a lot of blue screens and errors all related to my video card.
I decided to open her up, clean the heatsink and fans and replace the AS5 on the CPU & GPU.

When I took the heatsink off the GPU (7900GS) I noticed a LOT of corrosion on several of the components on the GPU...obviously from the soft drink.

Now I know my warranty is out, but should my GPU have been replaced at the time, considering it was under complete care?

Should I be able to get it replaced by Dell now? I have emailed them, expaining the situation, to see what they can do, if anything.

Dell :: Spilled Coffee On My 9400, Sending Computer In

Jan 19, 2010

I have a Inspiron 9400 with the following specs;

core 2 duo, 2.16
7900gs
2 gig ram
100 gig hd

I spilled coffee on it last night and am sending it in to the depot for their review to see if it can be repaired/replaced. Absolutely won't power up at all, no lights coming on or anything. Glad to have complete care, I bought the warranty for an extra year after it was going to expire after 3 years last September. I'll let everyone know what happens with this. I love this computer, it has served me very well so far for 3.5 years.

Dell :: Spilled Drink On Latitude D630 Keyboard

Nov 16, 2009

I couldn't remove the keyboard so I turned it upside down and put aside. So from my search in Google I found that I must leave it like that about few days untill everything is completely dry.

I also panicked a bit and it took me about a minute to remove the charger and about few minutes to remove the battery.

My questions are:

1.The laptop turned off - does it mean that it was short circuit or it could be some defence mechanism .....

Sony :: Spilled Wine On My VGN-Z690

Jan 13, 2010

the glass of wine poured onto my laptop, right where the plug inserts into the laptop. I heard a crisp snapping "zzz" sound, and all went blank.

I quickly opened up the laptop, and dabbed as much wine up as possible. Unfortunately, I saw the liquid swish around the CPU / Fan and about the motherboard. After drying out the motherboard as much as possible, I plugged it back in, and hit the power button.

At first, the laptop turned on! (thank god) Then the green power light on the hinge started to blink, and the laptop hibernated, and turned on again... repeatedly. I turned the computer off... and that was its last breath of life (i hate you god).

Since then, I have not been able to turn it on. Does this spell the end? Is this a massive short in the motherboard? Is it even worth repairing? I called Sony and 'Water damage' repair costs at the minimum, $700.

HP/Compaq :: Spilled Iced Tea In 8510p

Jun 9, 2009

around a month ago i spilled some iced tea in my laptop. first i thought it was gone, but then i dried it out and it mostly works. i turned it on within the 24 hour period, but it mostly works.

it boots up and i can install the OS. problem is that whenever i move the touchpad it's like the left mouse button is always clicked and it's a constant select on everything i scroll over. i tried replacing the touchpad and using only a USB mouse but it doesn't work.

new touchpad does the same thing and USB mouse won't work in the OS. it will work during installing the OS, but once in the OS it stops working.

Apple :: Macbook - Spilled Of Milk-n-tea

Jan 5, 2009

couple of days ago i spilled a whole cup of milk-n-tea on my laptop (spanking new macbook, 2.4Ghz, 4 gb ram) and the whole liquid went inside the macbook. It was running at the time. so i quickly turned it off, gave it a good shake for five seconds, and had to leave it and run for work. i cam back, fired it up, and its working alright! thats good, in fact i'm using it right now. but... they keyboard is no good. it feels like having some bubble gum under some of the keys. it is really annoying and i can say its unusable. if i send it to apple, will they fix it under warranty ( for free)? if i have computer accidental damage that covers this kind of accident, do i send my computer for fixing then claim the insurance? or do i report it and they handle it?

Sony :: Spilled Water On My Vaio... Is It Really Dead

Apr 8, 2010

night before last a cup of water spilled over my keyboard. I quickly picked laptop up, dried it upside down then left it running. About an hour later I went to type something in and realised the keyboard wasnt working. I turned it off and took the battery and power supply off.

The next day I turned it back on and it was coming on but the keyboard still not working (if you press one key then another key would be pressed and 6 and w were pressed the whole time) so then we lifted the keyboard up and dried the area underneath with a hairdryer- only saw a few drops of water. Then tried turning it bakc on and it would come on but the keyboard still not working.

Then few hours later I tried turning it on again, and now, although the green light comes on and it sounds like it's gonna start, the screen is completely black.

HP/Compaq :: DV6000- Spilled Only A Small Amount Of Tea On The Keyboard

Jul 23, 2009

My son spilled only a small amount of tea on the keyboard. knowing what could come out of it, I turned it off right away. After cleaning and drying for a few hours, i turned it on, and managed to a couple of times. The next day I tried to turn it on again, and as it was displaying Bios info, I saw one of the flat cables under the keyboard melt slightly. I turned it of right away. This cable is one of the two coming out of the panel over the keyboard, to be exact the left one, from the on/off button to the motherboard.

Bought the cable online, and still does not work. I CAN hear the computer turn on, the lights are all as usual, and boot and even go into windows, but I cant see anything on the screen. I have seen a really really dark and dim shadow of the boot, even the windows logo, but its almost invisible.

Geforce Go 7800GTX 256mb

I was able to restart the computer in safe mode a couple times.

But wow when i try to restart the computer, i'm getting artifacts on the Dell Splash screen. And then it would freeze up.

What do you think the issue is? At first i was thinking the GPU is the problem. But now i'm beginning to think its the motherboards.

Is it possible to solder the plugs on, will they work ?? I guess I will need a new BIOS for them ? anyone done it. Would appreciate any info/help. what plugs are they ?

Also is the XPS logo in the touchpad controlable ? mine isn't working at the moment (it's plugged in and was bought second hand but supposidly working ?) anyone know. I know others have done this mod.
