Dell :: 1520 Spilled Water On My Laptop

Sep 21, 2008

Was searching for the water on my desk last night and completely knocked it over on my inspiron 1520 (was still on). I immediately disconnected all the power and air dried it with a fan. Now it won't boot when I turn it on and I noticed that the fan doesn't turn on either.

Dell :: I Spilled Water On My Laptop

Dec 15, 2008

Wouldn't you know it, I have been clumsy as can be today; I spilled three drinks. The first two were no real big deal, but the last one was right on the top of my 1420! Before I could do anything, it shut down and I don't know if it was in my mind or what, but I thought I could hear faint sizzling. Now I'm waiting for it to dry only so I can confirm I am hosed. Looks like I am stuck with a minimum of $200 for a new motherboard provided I haven't fried anything else. What a crappy end to a day...

I'm switching to sippy cups!

HP/Compaq :: Spilled Water On My Laptop - It Wasn't Turned On But The Ports Were Wet

Oct 31, 2009

It was placed vertically in a bag and my grandma spilled water from a flower vase on my laptop. Good thing it wasn't turned on but The ports were wet and I wiped them with tissue.

I placed the laptop upside down in front of a fan to hopefully let all the water inside evaporate. I also dismantled the battery.

Dell :: Spilled Water On My E1705- Keyboard

Sep 14, 2007

I accidentally spilled some water on my laptop this evening. i dried everything out and everything seems to be working fine..except for that my left "Ctrl" key is acting really weird. Something is making it seem like it's being constantly held down (although it physically isn't). The only way I can disable this is through the On-Screen Keyboard in Windows XP. But after hitting the particular Ctrl key, it goes back to being held down again. Is there anything I can do to fix this? Or is this something that wouldn't cost too much to repair?

Sony :: Spilled Water On My Vaio... Is It Really Dead

Apr 8, 2010

night before last a cup of water spilled over my keyboard. I quickly picked laptop up, dried it upside down then left it running. About an hour later I went to type something in and realised the keyboard wasnt working. I turned it off and took the battery and power supply off.

The next day I turned it back on and it was coming on but the keyboard still not working (if you press one key then another key would be pressed and 6 and w were pressed the whole time) so then we lifted the keyboard up and dried the area underneath with a hairdryer- only saw a few drops of water. Then tried turning it bakc on and it would come on but the keyboard still not working.

Then few hours later I tried turning it on again, and now, although the green light comes on and it sounds like it's gonna start, the screen is completely black.

Dell :: Spilled Soda On My Laptop, Any Hope?

Apr 21, 2009

I knocked some soda onto my computer while doing homework, it was on the top right hand corner of the keyboard. Its an e1505 from a litte over 2&1/2 years ago (warranty is out).

I let it dry under a fan for an hour, then left it another hour. It worked fine, but 1 speaker didn't work.

I turned it off, but I tried to turn it back on to print something about an hour later and it wouldn't turn on. It said "no bootable device". It would run a dell diagnostic though

Dell :: Inspiron 1520 Users 1TB Laptop Internal Drive ?

Apr 18, 2010

my 320gb drive that shipped from Dell 2 years ago is dieing out. It will need to be replaced soon. I am curious if any Inspiron 1520 users have upgraded to one of these new 1TB capacity laptop drives. Previously 500gb was the max capacity but now 750gb and 1Tb versions are available. From what I understand the drives must be 2.5 inch to fit in an Inspiron 1520.

Has anyone done this yet ? Which model drive have you installed ? Did you have any issues 'fitting' the drive in ? How is it working out ?

Dell :: Water On My Keyboard

Jan 24, 2009

I knew it was going to happen sooner or later, and it did. I spilled a little water on my keyboard tonight. I dried it up fast enough or so I thought . When I type the letter q or z it comes up qa and za. the a pops up automatically after typing those letters. I finally got to the keyboard unscrewed it and noticed a little bit more water underneath. It wasn't a lot but enough to notice.

Am I screwed here or will this dry enough to get back to normal? When it first happened all my words were jumbled, but now it is just those 2 letters. Funny now my Caps lock is going on by itself

Should I just shut down for the night and keep the keyboard disassembled so it could dry?

Dell :: Water Cooling M6400

Mar 29, 2009

I like my M6400. Except that I am sick of the noise the fans make.

My M6300 runs at hotter temperatures without the fans almost ever kicking in for light applications. As a result it is a pleasant quite piece of kit to work with.

The M6400 is loud and annoying in the continuous on-off cycles. Notebook coolers with fans do not work well in my experience .....

Dell :: E6400 Water Damage

Feb 27, 2009

I've managed to spill half a glass of water onto my E6400. I unplugged it and straight away and waited 24 hours.

The laptop now doesn't boot: the BIOS runs and the hard drive gets accessed and then it powers down.

Is it going to be obvious to the engineer that all of this was caused by water?

Dell :: I Spilled Isopropyl On My Motherboard

Nov 17, 2007

So I was appying AS5 onto my processor and trying to clean things up and get a good application (Right now i'm overclocked to 2.8 and it says I'm 37 C) So I'm glad that it worked out.

But anyways I accidently knocked over my bottle of Isopropyl Alcohol 91% onto my motherboard and the left hand corner of it got about 3-4 tablespoons worth. and I think it might have gotten into the socket board. I was worried as I should be. But cloth dryed all of it and then put it back together and it wouldn't boot up. Just the Green Light Flash.

So I then re-opened it and let it air dry for a few mins and tried my best to clean out the entire motherboard and then I booted it up again, and it worked.

So I suppose I was very lucky, but I'm curious as to how close to disaster was I? and should I be using 100% Isopropyl?

The m1710 is now running great, and with this CPU upgrade I think I'm going to keep my M1710 for a little longer, I really like it.

I was just wondering how long it usually takes for them to fix and return the computer to me.

Dell :: Inspiron 1525 With Water Damage

Feb 10, 2009

i've been given a Dell Inspiron 1525 with water damage to repair.

it doesn't look like a lot of water has gone into it, there's some marks on the metal parts of the internal frame and a little bit of rust marks on the top of the dvd writer drive. There was some corrosion/rust on a couple of the chips which i have cleaned and scrubbed off.

When it's plugged in, the blue battery led comes on, when left on both the power light and the battery light come on aswell as the light under the power button, But it doesn't boot and the fan doesn't start.

at one point the fan did spin but only for about 3-4 seconds and went back off.

Dell :: Inspiron 1525 Water Spill

Dell Inspiron 15.4 inch i1525-119B laptop computer. It worked fine since it was new (not used much), but suffered spill damage (small amount of water spilled on the keyboard) and now will not power on. The keys do not stick, and function fine. The DVD drive pops open when I push it, like normal.

A few indicator lights will come on when I hit the power button, and the fan turns on, but that's as far as it goes. It has another 3 months left on the warranty but spill damage is not covered and I assume they will know what happened if i send it in for repair

Dell :: E1705 Replacement For Water Damage

Aug 19, 2009

Hi this is my first post and I just had a question about a replacement for my e1705 through complete care. I left my laptop outside and it poured and I completely forgot about it.

I haven't talked to dell yet but I'll definitely be covered if I have complete care correct? Also I've been reading that sometimes you don't get the same laptop back and you get a replacement.

What are the chances that I'd get another e1705 since I have accessories for it already that I like (bluetooth adapter that I'm hoping isn't ruined and an extra battery) or would I get a newer laptop since the e1705 has been discontinued? Also how long am I going to be without a laptop? I did a search but I wanted some answers for my specific case.

Dell :: Spilled Soft Drink Onto My 9400

Mar 31, 2008

Late last year, I spilled a substantial amount of soft drink onto my 9400.

It was under completecare, so the Dell tech came round and replaced the motherboard, keyboard and touchpad...he just cleaned everything else with isopropyl or something.
That was about a week before my warranty ran out....but the laptop was working fine, so I had no problem.

Now, a few months later, I am getting a lot of blue screens and errors all related to my video card.
I decided to open her up, clean the heatsink and fans and replace the AS5 on the CPU & GPU.

When I took the heatsink off the GPU (7900GS) I noticed a LOT of corrosion on several of the components on the GPU...obviously from the soft drink.

Now I know my warranty is out, but should my GPU have been replaced at the time, considering it was under complete care?

Should I be able to get it replaced by Dell now? I have emailed them, expaining the situation, to see what they can do, if anything.

Sony :: Water Under Vaio FW LCD Screen

Aug 19, 2009

I would like to know if there's a way to remove the liquid under my LCD screen.

At first there was a big circle with a diameter of 3 inches. then after leaving it idle for about 3 or 4 days, the circle shrinked with a diameter of 2 cm. after that, I left the computer alone for another 4 days and that 2cm circle is still there. i turned the laptop and viewed the screen at a 45 angle and i see one normal drop of water and many small drops in that one area.

should i wait until it dries out? or should i disassemble the screen?

- considering there's no air or anything in the LCD screen itself, i dont think the water will disappear anytime soon. possibly 2 or 4 months? lol =(

water came in contact with the SCREEN only, all other parts (keyboard, speakers, cpu, etc. are CLEAN)
