Dell :: Vostro 1x20 Water Resistance

I have a Vostro 1320 and my touchpad has decided to stop working in Windows 7 (particularly RC x64).
The touchpad works fine in safe mode but does not work nine times out of ten when booting regularly in Windows..
In Device Manager, the touchpad has an exclamation point and the error "This device cannot start. Code 10"...
I tried re-installing the driver provided by Dell and also the reference driver directly from the Synaptics website and neither fixed the issue..............
I knew it was going to happen sooner or later, and it did. I spilled a little water on my keyboard tonight. I dried it up fast enough or so I thought . When I type the letter q or z it comes up qa and za. the a pops up automatically after typing those letters. I finally got to the keyboard unscrewed it and noticed a little bit more water underneath. It wasn't a lot but enough to notice.
Am I screwed here or will this dry enough to get back to normal? When it first happened all my words were jumbled, but now it is just those 2 letters. Funny now my Caps lock is going on by itself
Should I just shut down for the night and keep the keyboard disassembled so it could dry?
I like my M6400. Except that I am sick of the noise the fans make.
My M6300 runs at hotter temperatures without the fans almost ever kicking in for light applications. As a result it is a pleasant quite piece of kit to work with.
The M6400 is loud and annoying in the continuous on-off cycles. Notebook coolers with fans do not work well in my experience .....
Looks like I will be next in the Dell exchange line. I was showing my wife something when she was in the tub, I stood up, lost my balance and dropped the laptop in her bath. She SHIT! It was completely submerged while turned on, I can't imagine that anything is any good on it anymore.
View 15 Replies View RelatedWouldn't you know it, I have been clumsy as can be today; I spilled three drinks. The first two were no real big deal, but the last one was right on the top of my 1420! Before I could do anything, it shut down and I don't know if it was in my mind or what, but I thought I could hear faint sizzling. Now I'm waiting for it to dry only so I can confirm I am hosed. Looks like I am stuck with a minimum of $200 for a new motherboard provided I haven't fried anything else. What a crappy end to a day...
I'm switching to sippy cups!
I've managed to spill half a glass of water onto my E6400. I unplugged it and straight away and waited 24 hours.
The laptop now doesn't boot: the BIOS runs and the hard drive gets accessed and then it powers down.
Is it going to be obvious to the engineer that all of this was caused by water?
After a rather good Halloween party i managed to come back and somehow paint my laptop with water.
It was shut but i found water on the lid, water underneath it and the keyboard had left a big moisture imprint on the screen
i've been given a Dell Inspiron 1525 with water damage to repair.
it doesn't look like a lot of water has gone into it, there's some marks on the metal parts of the internal frame and a little bit of rust marks on the top of the dvd writer drive. There was some corrosion/rust on a couple of the chips which i have cleaned and scrubbed off.
When it's plugged in, the blue battery led comes on, when left on both the power light and the battery light come on aswell as the light under the power button, But it doesn't boot and the fan doesn't start.
at one point the fan did spin but only for about 3-4 seconds and went back off.
Dell Inspiron 15.4 inch i1525-119B laptop computer. It worked fine since it was new (not used much), but suffered spill damage (small amount of water spilled on the keyboard) and now will not power on. The keys do not stick, and function fine. The DVD drive pops open when I push it, like normal.
A few indicator lights will come on when I hit the power button, and the fan turns on, but that's as far as it goes. It has another 3 months left on the warranty but spill damage is not covered and I assume they will know what happened if i send it in for repair
I accidentally spilled some water on my laptop this evening. i dried everything out and everything seems to be working fine..except for that my left "Ctrl" key is acting really weird. Something is making it seem like it's being constantly held down (although it physically isn't). The only way I can disable this is through the On-Screen Keyboard in Windows XP. But after hitting the particular Ctrl key, it goes back to being held down again. Is there anything I can do to fix this? Or is this something that wouldn't cost too much to repair?
View 10 Replies View RelatedHi this is my first post and I just had a question about a replacement for my e1705 through complete care. I left my laptop outside and it poured and I completely forgot about it.
I haven't talked to dell yet but I'll definitely be covered if I have complete care correct? Also I've been reading that sometimes you don't get the same laptop back and you get a replacement.
What are the chances that I'd get another e1705 since I have accessories for it already that I like (bluetooth adapter that I'm hoping isn't ruined and an extra battery) or would I get a newer laptop since the e1705 has been discontinued? Also how long am I going to be without a laptop? I did a search but I wanted some answers for my specific case.
Was searching for the water on my desk last night and completely knocked it over on my inspiron 1520 (was still on). I immediately disconnected all the power and air dried it with a fan. Now it won't boot when I turn it on and I noticed that the fan doesn't turn on either.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI've got an XPS M1210 with NVidia GeForce 7400 and since last week all the pictures or videos appear blurry with artifacts, … somehow like watercolor paints or with burn efect pictures.
Other observation: on the Windows locking blue screen (see below picture), instead the clear light blue on upper left corner, I can see something like a sun with round circles around effect .....
My friend have spilled like a 1dc water on my keyboard, but in that second I lift it up and I think all the water have flown out, but Iam not sure...But nothing happened. It didnt turn off by himself, so i turned it off aftewards.
I put in on the ground(keaboard face to face ground), then I used hair drier and i left it like this for one day. then I turned it on and everything works. now is the 5th day and it is working like ussual
I would like to know if there's a way to remove the liquid under my LCD screen.
At first there was a big circle with a diameter of 3 inches. then after leaving it idle for about 3 or 4 days, the circle shrinked with a diameter of 2 cm. after that, I left the computer alone for another 4 days and that 2cm circle is still there. i turned the laptop and viewed the screen at a 45 angle and i see one normal drop of water and many small drops in that one area.
should i wait until it dries out? or should i disassemble the screen?
- considering there's no air or anything in the LCD screen itself, i dont think the water will disappear anytime soon. possibly 2 or 4 months? lol =(
water came in contact with the SCREEN only, all other parts (keyboard, speakers, cpu, etc. are CLEAN)
I have an issue on my 8 month old HP HDX18 laptop....my 3 yr old son was watching a video and accidently spilled 1/4 glass of water on the laptop.
The lappie shut off and wouldn't turn back on. I quickly disconnected it from the wall and removed the battery. Then I opened up the case up, took apart the mem, HDD and left it outside in my backyard today to dry up and then put everything together and booted up. Laptop boots up usual now BUT the wireless/volume are disabled. Some of the arrow keys are also not functioning normal either. While its obvious its not a total h/w failure, I have some doubts on the mobo/keyboard.
I do have the HP warranty but I'm pretty sure it doesn't cover water damage.
last night I spilled some water ( ) on my recently bought dell studio 17 laptop. It was mostly over the mouse finger pad and a little over the space bar.
It was turned on and plugged into the wall. The screen froze an nothing worked. I unplugged it from the wall and unplugged the battery and tried to tip the water out.
I left it in a tilted position overnight. It still wont turn on but when the battery goes on the white light on the side turns on.
Anyways I just wanted to get some advice on what to do. I called the Dell tech support but they were closed. If i send it in how long does that usually take and how much should i expect to pay for this type of problem?
My 2 year old spilled juice on my new laptop about 3 weeks ago, and now when I power it on it goes to the boot screen, the blue bar doesn't finish loading and it turns off. Ok, today I was just trying things. It's 3 buttons at the top right of the laptop, if I hold the middle one the computer will boot, stay on and I can do everything as normal. But if I let that button go, it turns right off.
View 2 Replies View Relatednight before last a cup of water spilled over my keyboard. I quickly picked laptop up, dried it upside down then left it running. About an hour later I went to type something in and realised the keyboard wasnt working. I turned it off and took the battery and power supply off.
The next day I turned it back on and it was coming on but the keyboard still not working (if you press one key then another key would be pressed and 6 and w were pressed the whole time) so then we lifted the keyboard up and dried the area underneath with a hairdryer- only saw a few drops of water. Then tried turning it bakc on and it would come on but the keyboard still not working.
Then few hours later I tried turning it on again, and now, although the green light comes on and it sounds like it's gonna start, the screen is completely black.
I have an HP DV9700 notbook and water got spilled on the keyboard. I turned the notebook off immediately and unplugged it. Then let it dry for a day. The next day I turned it on and now when I press some keys the wrong thing happens such as when I press backspace Internet Explorer will switch to full screen or when I press the spacebar it will do a space and put a period in the spelling.
View 6 Replies View RelatedMy sister is 14 and she spilled a full glass of water on her Macbook keyboard. It shut off automatically. I took out the battery and turned the laptop upside down. I tried to aim a hair dryer at the vents, and now it is just sitting still drying out. It is showing no sign of life.
View 10 Replies View RelatedIt was placed vertically in a bag and my grandma spilled water from a flower vase on my laptop. Good thing it wasn't turned on but The ports were wet and I wiped them with tissue.
I placed the laptop upside down in front of a fan to hopefully let all the water inside evaporate. I also dismantled the battery.
This happened this morning, never heard this on a macbook or any laptop for the matter. It's all better now, but it was a shock! Sounded like a like radiator or something inside the notebook. Is this a bad sign of things to come?
View 8 Replies View RelatedI bought a Vostro 1500. It has been fine and I got XP instead of Vista. 2GB of RAM.
It boots up fine with quick Dell screen, black XP start up screen with thermometer line at bottom, then light blue XP screen then Vostro.
Before the destop icons show up next after Vostro and I am all set. Now it stops at Vostro.
I can get to programs using task manager file open and browse. Not very convenient.
im not sure if i want a graphic card in it, as it would just eat battery life and i would get nothing much out of it, since i have no plans in gaming with it.
i will be, however massively watching movies, and streaming movies (99.9% of the web, not dvd player) would that need a dedicated graphic card?
i would also like to know which are the best in terms of :
price, screen quality, build quality, weight, which ones have the same keyboard, current known issues, and are they any rumors or known news of any updates of any of these models in the next 6 months worth waiting for?
ive also bought a m1330 a few months back, but since i had some issues with school, i had to return it and delay my purchase to this year.
the laptop was getting extremely hot, like not even possible to put on my lap kind-of hot. is that issue fixed?
I have accidentally spill water on my dell 1525 keyboard and now, when I power on, the keyboard does not work. everything works fine, its just none of the keys on my keyboard or maybe one or two from time to time work.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI know the Vostro 3300 just came out.
For those who own the V13. Do you miss having HDMI? How's the build quality on the V13? And with the Vostro 3300 out now, the Vostro 3300 would be a better buy, no?
Any differences that I should take note of?
