I would like to know if on DELL Inspiron 3531 motherboard there is the possibility to mount an optical drive, cause the laptop comes without the CD/DVD drive. If is it possible, where i can buy the optical drive for the laptop?

View 7 Replies View RelatedI had noise coming from my optical drive. The computer randomly checks my optical drive as if I were booting up or put a disk in it. I took it out, re-seated it and flashed the BIOS. It seemed to be better for a week or so but it has come back with a vengeance. I keep hearing the click of it accessing at odd times (again, when I insert a memory stick, or am working with pictures, were some times that it makes the noise). I now crack the door and leave the drive open so it's not accessing on and off all the time. Inspiron 15R,5520
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've finally managed to find someone to replace my optical drive with an SSD (wouldn't want to void the warranty, do we?) and I've got quite bit of a problem here. After installing Windows 8 on the SSD, I get the error "winload.exe missing or corrupted" and error code 0xc000000e. The installer automatically put the boot data on the original HDD, while the OS is on the SSD - and it seems the UEFI can't find the OS like this.
The OS itself seems to be intact, since pressing F12 at booting and selecting Hard Drive starts the computer normally.
I've tried to move the boot sector to the SSD, but it seems I'm missing something... Would a BIOS update maybe work with this?
I'm thinking of removing my DVD drive and replacing it with a caddy and hard drive as explained here.
I don't use the DVD drive very often and would much prefer a 500GB or 1TB hard drive in there. The DVD drive can then be used externally via the eSATA port using this cable.
The ideal solution would be to use this NewmodeUS caddy as it supports the larger 12.7mm 1TB 2.5" hard drives and has a removable faceplate. The problem is the price.
At $55 including postage to the UK plus customs, VAT and clearance fees on top it's going to work out pretty expensive for what is essentially a slimline SATA to SATA extension
so how good is the new HD4330 thats in the inspiron 15's? all i can find is people saying its probably faster then a HD3450 but no hard evidence to back it up. so does anyone have any benchmarks? im curious how it does in 3dmark 05 and 06

View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm buying a refurb M4400 that comes with a DVD-ROM drive. I'd like to upgrade it to a DVD-RW.
Dell sells an IDE and a SATA drive. I'm not sure which one I should be getting. I'm hoping M4400 owners here might be able to give me more info - do all M4400s have IDE drives, all have SATA, or is it a mix? Can I safely order one or the other, or will I have to wait and see what my system has before I can order?
I own a Studio 15, bought in UK. Now I am in India. For some reason my optical drive has stopped working properly. It can hardly read disks and it ejects them back out.
Trying about 10 times, sometime it is able to read the disk. I have tried various disks and have tried reinstalling OS too but in vein.
Is there a place that sells the blu-ray burner that dell puts into their laptops now?
Do you have to buy from Dell? Is this drive compatible with the inspiron 9300? I have modded the bios on my 9300 to the M170 bios. Also, will my video card handle this drive and blu-ray movies? I have a 7800 GTX.

I'm trying to remove the optical drive as per the instructions on page 55. I've removed the screw and I have the drive open. When I pull on the drive drawer nothing moves. I am afraid if I pull harder I'll break it.
I am still using Tiger, 10.4 on my MBP.
I have recently been having issues with my optical drive. I was burning a cd for a friend and it would not burn it or pop it out when I asked it to. I had to re-start while holding down the spacebar (or mouse button?) in order for the cd to come out. I forget which method I used, but using terminal did not work nor did the eject key.
It has also done this while running iDVD to watch a movie. The iDVD interface will not work and produces the spinning beachball of death and then I cannot eject the DVD. I either have to leave it alone for the night or restart the computer. Only then will iDVD stop acting up so I can eject the DVD.
Does anyone know why this is happening? Is it all to blame on the optical drive? I just went to the Apple Genius Bar a few weeks ago for a new battery. I hoping my MBP isn't falling apart.

I been searching around for a new optical drive(dvdr+dl) for my e6400. so far, there a two types of notebook drive that i know of. the more popular 12.5mm and ultra slim 9.5mm optical drive. which type does the dell latitude e6400 uses?

I got my Studio 15 notebook yesterday.
Whenever I power on my notebook. I hear one sound twice for a second. There after on 'Dell' screen I hear it once again just before Windows 7 startup screen appears. I think it's from slot optical drive.
Am I correct?

Im in the process of updating all the drivers on my system, and of course the first place im checking is the Dell Support website.
Now, according to the support website, the only optical driver is for the Hitachi GA10N, however my system is equipped with a TSSTcorp TS-T633A.
the cd/dvd combo drive crapped on me as it only reads CDs now, no dvds. I did however steal a dvd rom drive from a Tr3ap1 , which is also the UJDA755 model so i'm assuming it well work.
Well when i tried disassembling the v505 it was impossible. i've sat for 2 hours trying to split the halves of the case to gain access and looked online everywhere to see if there were any guides but i have failed.
i even looked at the diagram but it didn't help me as all i could figure out from it were the hidden screw.
if you can take apart a Sony Z and replace the optical drive with a standard hard drive? Would the older tutorial here be the same way you can take apart a new sony Z or how do you think you could get in there?

On another note - I heard you're suppose make a new connector for the hard drive because the Sony Z uses microSATA or uSATA or something like that for their optical drives. There isn't a connector that you can readily purchase now.
I want to save money now and get this notebook with the regular DVD RW drive. Maybe later I want to upgrade to Blu Ray. However, is this even possible? If so, does it void my warranty?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a dv4000. It's a bit dated at 3.5 years I've had it, but a pretty solid and reliable notebook. Never any big problems other than a small crack from handling it wrong. But I recently have had an optical drive problem the past couple of months. It doesn't usually bother me too much until I try to use it with a disc. I bought a Macbook and plan on selling this notebook soon, and want to see if I can fix the problem before I sell it, or at least come to the root.
I can hit it around the optical drive area and sometimes the drive will randomly come open. I didn't accidentally hit the button or anything. That or the light on it will start blinking for a bit. When I hit the button for it to open it takes like 10 tries or so of repeatedly hitting it before it will decide to open. When I get a disc in it sometimes it will blink for a bit and act as if there's no disc. I can open and close it again and it will sometimes recognize a disc and play it, but if I hit the area by the drive too hard it will quit running. I have tried reseating the drive. It seemed to work at first, but then it started up with the same problems. My best guess is that it coming disconnected with the data connectors or something and causing it to act up, but I wouldn't know how to keep it any more connected with only 1 screw holding it in...
I'm loosely considering picking up either a 13.3" Latitude E4300 or a 14.1" Latitude E6400, but a feature that's really important to me is being able to replace the optical drive with a second 2.5" drive so that I can have an SSD + 500 GB hard drive setup.
In the stickied thread about adding another 2.5" drive to Latitudes, someone suggested that even though the E4300's optical is a "fixed bay," the drive adapter should fit in there anyway -- it just won't lock into place with a latch.
My questions are:
1) Has anyone with an E4300 tried this?
2) Would anyone with an E4300 be interested in trying this?
3) If you have tried it, are there any downsides? e.g. does the drive jostle around or anything or does it hold securely in place!

I know this has been asked many times already, but I am still confused about how well a large storage HDD can be integrated.
If I plut in something like the ultrabay, wouldn't the case be opened and let in a lot of dust into the system? I watched a youtube video with someone trying to do the same on an older Z.

if I can replace the optical drive in the Vaio SR590? It's a DVDRW, I want to put in Bluray. If Bluray drops in price, and I get a slim bluray drive, can I put it in the SR590? Looking at the computer, it seems the current drive's design is a bit different than a standard notebook optical drive. Seems like it will stick out a bit on the sides...
