I have the standard DVD RW drive in my Studio 1555 and would like to upgrade to one that plays blu-ray discs.
Would any of you knowledgeable people be able to cast your eye over this and tell me whether or not it will fit?

I purchased my Studio 1555 on Dell Outlet with a Dell 1397 802.11b/g wifi card, and I want to upgrade this card to the Intel 5100 a/g/n Half-Mini Wifi Card.

But I'm encountering a big problem, my display is weird (there is some green filter added) in addition Windows 8 does not completely (it stop after the blue logo).
I can see something if I boot on my Ubuntu USB. Even the boot logo have the green filter.
On the others side if I come back to the original disciple screen, all is well. So, at a first sight I think it is not a connector problem or a graphics card problem.
It's a Dell Studio 1555 with a ATI Mobility Radeon 4500....

I got my Studio 15 notebook yesterday.
Whenever I power on my notebook. I hear one sound twice for a second. There after on 'Dell' screen I hear it once again just before Windows 7 startup screen appears. I think it's from slot optical drive.
Am I correct?
I have never used a notebook before.
So kindly tell me is this normal ? Do optical drives in notebooks make such sounds at startup as well as more noise while using (compared to desktops)
Im in the process of updating all the drivers on my system, and of course the first place im checking is the Dell Support website.
Now, according to the support website, the only optical driver is for the Hitachi GA10N, however my system is equipped with a TSSTcorp TS-T633A.
I have a new studio 1555 with a 500gb HD in it. It has vista 64bit.
I have an OCZ Vertex 120gb and 30gb. I tried to put the 30gb version in and install windows xp 32 (nlited copy, which installs on anything else, including my dad's old Inspiron 1705... which has a 30gb Vertex).....................
My BRAND NEW Studio 1555 has been clicking/whirring rapidly since I first turned it on Friday.
Occasionally it gets so fast that it sounds like it's buzzing and it also sometimes sounds like it's creaking.
I have a Studio 1555 and keep getting the message that my drive "D" is almost full. Can I delete all these files and and let the system start backing everything up again? I'm also running Norton 360 which has a backup file on the same drive, is this double redundancy or what?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm thinking of removing my DVD drive and replacing it with a caddy and hard drive as explained here.
I don't use the DVD drive very often and would much prefer a 500GB or 1TB hard drive in there. The DVD drive can then be used externally via the eSATA port using this cable.
The ideal solution would be to use this NewmodeUS caddy as it supports the larger 12.7mm 1TB 2.5" hard drives and has a removable faceplate. The problem is the price.
At $55 including postage to the UK plus customs, VAT and clearance fees on top it's going to work out pretty expensive for what is essentially a slimline SATA to SATA extension

I'm buying a refurb M4400 that comes with a DVD-ROM drive. I'd like to upgrade it to a DVD-RW.
Dell sells an IDE and a SATA drive. I'm not sure which one I should be getting. I'm hoping M4400 owners here might be able to give me more info - do all M4400s have IDE drives, all have SATA, or is it a mix? Can I safely order one or the other, or will I have to wait and see what my system has before I can order?
I own a Studio 15, bought in UK. Now I am in India. For some reason my optical drive has stopped working properly. It can hardly read disks and it ejects them back out.
Trying about 10 times, sometime it is able to read the disk. I have tried various disks and have tried reinstalling OS too but in vein.
My DVD drive has recently been compromised, i can not share the details of how this happened, but needless to say, i now require a new drive.

I'm trying to remove the optical drive as per the instructions on page 55. I've removed the screw and I have the drive open. When I pull on the drive drawer nothing moves. I am afraid if I pull harder I'll break it.
I am still using Tiger, 10.4 on my MBP.
I have recently been having issues with my optical drive. I was burning a cd for a friend and it would not burn it or pop it out when I asked it to. I had to re-start while holding down the spacebar (or mouse button?) in order for the cd to come out. I forget which method I used, but using terminal did not work nor did the eject key.
It has also done this while running iDVD to watch a movie. The iDVD interface will not work and produces the spinning beachball of death and then I cannot eject the DVD. I either have to leave it alone for the night or restart the computer. Only then will iDVD stop acting up so I can eject the DVD.
Does anyone know why this is happening? Is it all to blame on the optical drive? I just went to the Apple Genius Bar a few weeks ago for a new battery. I hoping my MBP isn't falling apart.

View 10 Replies View Relatedthe cd/dvd combo drive crapped on me as it only reads CDs now, no dvds. I did however steal a dvd rom drive from a Tr3ap1 , which is also the UJDA755 model so i'm assuming it well work.
Well when i tried disassembling the v505 it was impossible. i've sat for 2 hours trying to split the halves of the case to gain access and looked online everywhere to see if there were any guides but i have failed.
i even looked at the diagram but it didn't help me as all i could figure out from it were the hidden screw.
if you can take apart a Sony Z and replace the optical drive with a standard hard drive? Would the older tutorial here be the same way you can take apart a new sony Z or how do you think you could get in there?

On another note - I heard you're suppose make a new connector for the hard drive because the Sony Z uses microSATA or uSATA or something like that for their optical drives. There isn't a connector that you can readily purchase now.
I want to save money now and get this notebook with the regular DVD RW drive. Maybe later I want to upgrade to Blu Ray. However, is this even possible? If so, does it void my warranty?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a dv4000. It's a bit dated at 3.5 years I've had it, but a pretty solid and reliable notebook. Never any big problems other than a small crack from handling it wrong. But I recently have had an optical drive problem the past couple of months. It doesn't usually bother me too much until I try to use it with a disc. I bought a Macbook and plan on selling this notebook soon, and want to see if I can fix the problem before I sell it, or at least come to the root.
I can hit it around the optical drive area and sometimes the drive will randomly come open. I didn't accidentally hit the button or anything. That or the light on it will start blinking for a bit. When I hit the button for it to open it takes like 10 tries or so of repeatedly hitting it before it will decide to open. When I get a disc in it sometimes it will blink for a bit and act as if there's no disc. I can open and close it again and it will sometimes recognize a disc and play it, but if I hit the area by the drive too hard it will quit running. I have tried reseating the drive. It seemed to work at first, but then it started up with the same problems. My best guess is that it coming disconnected with the data connectors or something and causing it to act up, but I wouldn't know how to keep it any more connected with only 1 screw holding it in...
I'm loosely considering picking up either a 13.3" Latitude E4300 or a 14.1" Latitude E6400, but a feature that's really important to me is being able to replace the optical drive with a second 2.5" drive so that I can have an SSD + 500 GB hard drive setup.
In the stickied thread about adding another 2.5" drive to Latitudes, someone suggested that even though the E4300's optical is a "fixed bay," the drive adapter should fit in there anyway -- it just won't lock into place with a latch.
My questions are:
1) Has anyone with an E4300 tried this?
2) Would anyone with an E4300 be interested in trying this?
3) If you have tried it, are there any downsides? e.g. does the drive jostle around or anything or does it hold securely in place!
