Hard Drive Member 1: Hitachi HTS722016K9A300
Hard Drive Member 2: FUJITSU MHW2160BJ G2
If you are an M1730 owner I would be interested in what drives you have. Dell have tried to fob me off and told me all M1730 have this config.
Although it works OK I can't see that this is good practice - I would have expected matched drives.
I'm thinking of purchasing the new sony Z-1190 laptop. Some of the options have only one drive (say 128GB X 1, or 256 X 1) but still supposedly have raid 0. How is this possible (I thought that more than one drive was needed)? Would there be a performance difference between the 256X1 or the 192 (64X1 + 128X1)?

i have an Acer aspire 5100 with dual core 1.6 cpu (laptop not working) and an Acer aspire 5100 single core 2.0ghz cpu (working), the question is can i put the dual core straight into the single core without any problems also would it be worth doing it?

I've seen a number of rescent posts where folks are still setting up RAID platforms even though dual core and now quad core processors are becoming mainstream.Is it the additional chipset that you demand or what is it that requires the additional hp you seek? there is no game out there I cannot play without it and short of CAD I see little use other than proffesional requirements (NIMBUS 2.1 or Zach, perhaps).

If not, I was thinking of dual 24", but I've read that no one has gotten the Z to work with multiple external monitors either; is this true? I have an HP Elitebook 6390P; I remember seeing for the Thinkpads someone could remove the CDROm Drive and put a hard drive into this slot and then put into the cdrom drive.

Seems like a nice unit.
Question:
This unit comes with a 64GB SSD (1.8" PATA) and a 250GB HDD (2.5" SATA).
Given the age of the model line, I'm assuming that the PATA SSD is not of the same performance level as the new SATA SSDs, e.g., Intel X25-M.
Would it be simple enough to put in an X25-M in place of the 250GB HDD and then make it the boot drive? Or is the system limited to booting from the PATA SSD?
A dual SSD ultraportable would be... well... sweet.
I just received my new Studio 1555 and a week or two ago, I had second thoughts about not getting the Blue-Ray player. Is it possible to easily upgrade this through Dell or by other means?

I currently have an Acer 5630WMLI bought in 2007, it has a 120G Toshiba MK1234GSX Sata hard Drive. I currently dual boot between Linux Mint 7 and Windows Vista and am running out of space. I would like to change the disk to a 320gb drive, I have looked at the Toshiba MK3252GSX but I can't find if it is compatable with my system.

I've worked out the physical process of replacing the installed 200GB 2.5 inch Hard Drive to a 500GB Werstern Digital 500GB 2.5 inch Hard Drive. Overall it looks pretty easy. It's what happens once the drive is fitted and I turn on the laptop that I'm a bit worried about.
Do I just load the recovery discs as usual or is there something I need to do in BIOS? Also will the motherboard cope with a 500GB Hard Drive?
I just bought a new 500GB 7200rpm Seagate HD and I plan to change my laptop harddrive with this new Seagate HD.
My question is,
After I install the new HD, can I use the Recover back up DVD that I created using my old HD
I just got an Intel X18-M G1 80 gb ssd with a 2.5" enclosure to upgrade the HDD in my Acer 1410.
I opened the back panel, removed the 2 screws, then removed plastic piece holding down the gold connector, and pulled the plastic tape to get the hard drive out.
Problem now is, how do I remove the old hard drive from the chasis? I've upgraded laptop drives before and usually just there is a SATA connector. But here the SATA connector seems to be connected to a chasis/circuit board. There are several 6 point star shaped screws, including some covered by a piece of black plastic.
I bought the Acer 1410 with the single core SU3500 Core 2 Solo CPU. It looks like Acer decided to release them with the SU2300 now, which is dual core at 1.2GHz (compared with 1.4GHz of SU3500).
Does anyone have any benchmarks comparing the two, and/or if they have a solid understanding how much better it would perform compared with the SU3500? I also see that the single core AS1410 with Celeron M @ 1.3GHz sells at the same price as the dual core.
Using my inspiron 2330 (only 18mths old ) as normal next thing it tells me it encountered fault and has to reboot anyway it keeps saying scanning and repairing drive (c) then does not allow me to log in so i manage to get into bios to do a scan and it guves me a error code of 2000-0142 validation code of 112406 and and then says harddrive 0-s/n wd-wmc152946178
When i finally manage to log in my desk top screen is flashing and keeps telling my hard drive fault ....
Something recently happened to my laptop, and now whenever I boot up my laptop, I get a message stating that "No drive detected", and I don't know if the hard drive might be damaged or not.
I tried connecting the hard drive directly to a desktop pc since it's a sata hard drive, but my desktop pc just froze on the boot screen whenever this hard drive was connected.
I also was going to try and use a hard drive external case to maybe connect it to the pc this way, but I wasn't sure if it would work
I would like to know if on DELL Inspiron 3531 motherboard there is the possibility to mount an optical drive, cause the laptop comes without the CD/DVD drive. If is it possible, where i can buy the optical drive for the laptop?

Set the BIOS to USB in number one position, but this laptop won't boot from the external drive. Is this laptop bootable via a USB platter drive or a thumb drive? Also, can the recovery partition be used to repair Win 7 or is the recovery partition only to format the drive and install software the way it was when new ?
View 4 Replies View RelatedMy system (Inspiron 1564 - Windows 7) is still configured as I received it from Dell. The C drive is 58.5 Gb and the D drive is 164 Gb.
The problem is that everything saves to the C drive and nothing uses the D drive.
I do not want to reformat in one drive, happy to keep 2 but want pictures, documents etc to be saved to the D drive as the C drive is getting full up. How do I make the change to point these files to the D drive?
