View 7 Repliesi recently bought a brand new hp dv3 with vista installed, want to have xp on it but i got the bluescreen when i tried to install xp.
so i run into the internet to get some information. i think i need the Sata driver for my laptop in the XP cd. But what i want to install to my computer is tinyxp xmas edition, cuz its small, simple and hell fast. I tried to merge the sata driver in there but the iso ended up to be 230mb when the orginal was 600mb? what to do? i think the orginal iso is a different builkd than the orginal xp, oh btw i used nlite.
how do i do to insert sata driver in it ? can anyone explain ?
i found another stripped version of xp (xp performance) with a already inserted sata driver for my laptop, but i only got a blackscreen when i tried to boot the cd, why ? any clue ?
i really want a stripped version of XP in my comp
I have a Dv3500 laptop, the copper colored model, and I recently reinstalled Windows Vista on this laptop. Everything installs and works fine, except the intergrated usb webcam on the monitor.
It's showing up in Device Manager as a USB Webcam, driver details state it is using a driver by Microsoft and that it is working properly.
When I try to use the webcam, I get an error stating that the usb device is in use.
I have already deleted and reinstalled the usb cam, the usb drivers in device manager.
Anyone have a solution? driver? anything?
my backlight and touchpad are not working since i replaced my DV3000's motherboard with one meant for a DV3500 (wrongly listed as DV3000). I think that it has something to do with the lid sensor.

I see some after-market vendors of course, but curious as to if it's actually directly orderable through Dell? And well, how to go about it, since I'm blind as a bat if it's actually on the website .
Assuming I do upgrade to a larger hard drive, any suggestions on the most "painless" way of doing this, considering what is on my current drive?

I was thinking about upgrading to a 7200 RPM hard drive for my VAIO SR190.
I'm sure this voids warranty, but in the event that you need to send the laptop to Sony, couldn't you just put the original back in and they wouldn't notice?
I currently have an Acer 5630WMLI bought in 2007, it has a 120G Toshiba MK1234GSX Sata hard Drive. I currently dual boot between Linux Mint 7 and Windows Vista and am running out of space. I would like to change the disk to a 320gb drive, I have looked at the Toshiba MK3252GSX but I can't find if it is compatable with my system.
The Bios is 3.03 dated 11/10/2006
Is it possible to use this drive?
I have the standard DVD RW drive in my Studio 1555 and would like to upgrade to one that plays blu-ray discs.
Would any of you knowledgeable people be able to cast your eye over this and tell me whether or not it will fit?

I've worked out the physical process of replacing the installed 200GB 2.5 inch Hard Drive to a 500GB Werstern Digital 500GB 2.5 inch Hard Drive. Overall it looks pretty easy. It's what happens once the drive is fitted and I turn on the laptop that I'm a bit worried about.
Do I just load the recovery discs as usual or is there something I need to do in BIOS? Also will the motherboard cope with a 500GB Hard Drive?
I just bought a new 500GB 7200rpm Seagate HD and I plan to change my laptop harddrive with this new Seagate HD.
My question is,
After I install the new HD, can I use the Recover back up DVD that I created using my old HD
I just got an Intel X18-M G1 80 gb ssd with a 2.5" enclosure to upgrade the HDD in my Acer 1410.
I opened the back panel, removed the 2 screws, then removed plastic piece holding down the gold connector, and pulled the plastic tape to get the hard drive out.
Problem now is, how do I remove the old hard drive from the chasis? I've upgraded laptop drives before and usually just there is a SATA connector. But here the SATA connector seems to be connected to a chasis/circuit board. There are several 6 point star shaped screws, including some covered by a piece of black plastic.

I've been thinking about upgrading my computers ram and after doing a quick search I found this. Now assuming this everything is correct I should be able to add another gb of ram to my system. My question is, will I need to do anything such as increase the fan speed to stop overheating, or should adding another gig with the default fan settings not give me any trouble as far as overheating goes?
View 10 Replies View Relatedim thinking of upgrading the processor on my relatively old Compaq V6133CL. I currently have dual-core AMD 64 X2 TL-52 with 1.6GHz and want to upgrade to dual-core AMD Turion 64 X2 TL-60 with 2.0GHz. I did research on my own and asked HP tech support, which is pretty useless, but still need some advice. My question is will it be supplied with enough voltage, seems like it needs 1.075 / 1.10. The socket type is S1 in both. Are there any other things that I should be aware of?
My current system:
1.6 GHz AMD Turion TL-52
Mobo: Quanta 30B7 with F.3D bios from HP
2Gb DDR2
I've finally recieved my windows 7 disk from HP
But before I go and upgrade/install everything I have a few questions.
1. Am I able to do a clean install? Does the product key in the kit allow for me to do this?
2. How would I go about doing a clean install properly? (paranoid about mucking things up)
3. After doing a clean install, am I able to use the second disk to update the drivers, etc. or can I only use it when doing the upgrade option?
I am going to do the processor upgrade getting it up to 2+ with 800mhz bus I will have to have some ram to match it
But ram is something I do not have too much knowledge about, what is the best ram I can put in my dv9535nr?

I plan on doing 4GB of ram even though HP says max 2 I have found by posts here people have succsessfully installed 4GB with an upgrade to vista64.
I found this but dont know is it just cheap crap or a good solid piece of hardware?

I'm looking at upgrading my dv6500t from a 320GB hard drive to a 750GB or even 1TB HDD. Problem is, both are 12.5mm thick. Will these thicker hard drives fit in the bay of my laptop?

The idea is to replace dv2's MV-40 CPU with newer AMD Athlon(TM) Neo X2 (L335) or AMD Turion(TM) Neo X2 (L625). Any thoughts on this?
The questions are:
1) do dv2 and dv2z have the same motherboards?
2) how complicated would it be to replace CPU in a dv2?
3) is it worth it?
I'm using my 8510p. I was smart enough to buy an extended warranty, and it has proven to be quite usefull. (2 screen repairs and a new GPU.)
Now, over the time I have upgraded my notebook. The main HDD was upgraded with a 640GB drive, and I replaced my DVD/CD drive with a special bracket that allows you to install an extra Hard drive. Until so far, all these upgrades could easily be reversed for warranty purposes.
Now, I'm thinking about upgrading my original WSXGA+ screen with a WUXGA screen. (1680x1050 to 1920x1200) As since I'm using my computer a lot for graphical applications and CAD related stuff.
Now, I found a supplier that can supply me the screen, but he only recommends me to change my screen with something of the same resolution. He fears that the inverter may not be able to pull the higher resolution, nor my motherboard/gpu fail to recognize the new part.
Do you guy's think that this upgrade could be possible?
Personnaly I would go for it, since the 8510p was offered with a WUXGA screen, and the CCFL of the new screen would be exactly the same as the (current) WSXGA+ screen.
if I could replace my HDD (120Gb SATA) Pavillion 6704nr with a Hitachi 320 Gb, 7200 rpm drive. Also how would I transfer the system and files to the new drive.
View 4 Replies View RelatedMy 2 years old dv6000 display yesterday started to show a thin yellow vertical line about 2 inch from the right of the screen which run from top to bottom, and after a bit of googling, I found out it's unrepairable and I need to replace the screen
Anyway, after reading some of the threads on this forum, it seems to me that it's possible to replace the screen with a higher resolution one, albeit on dv9XXX ones. Has anyone done this upgrade on dv6XXX? And what screen (spare parts no/maker) did you get? Was there any 'misfit' with the hinge/panel/connector/inverter?

got a DV7 with 2 partitions- C: drive with OS ad D: drive with the recovery part.
I have burned 3 recovery dvds from the laptop.
If I put in a new hdd, fire up the recovery discs.. I know it will create a C: drive with the OS.. but will it also create a D: drive with the recovery part same as original hdd?
I'm thinking of upgrading my ZV6000 to a FX-55 (San Diego), right now it's got an Athlon64 3200 in it. I've found some used FX-55 on eBay for around $120, and some 1GB SO-Dimm for $33, so the upgrade will cost about $170 after shipping. Is it worth it to do this upgrade?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI am about to purchase the HP DV7 2015tx, with the q9000 cpu.
I am happy with everything, except the potential future performance of the CPU. The only remaining question for me is whether it is possible to upgrade the CPU to say, a q9550 if in future I am not happy with the speed of the q9000. I'm afraid I don't know the motherboard type or what it supports.
Also, if it is possible, might this create heat issues or like instability?
If you were to upgrade your laptop with dual channel memory, what combination would you use to upgrade to 6GB? Currently, I have a dv8 with 4GB (2x2GB). Would you have a combination of 2GB and 4GB? Wouldn't the ram pieces have to be of the same value and from the same manufacture?
