HP/Compaq :: Backlight/lid Sensor DV3000 (DV3500) Not Working
Nov 10, 2009
my backlight and touchpad are not working since i replaced my DV3000's motherboard with one meant for a DV3500 (wrongly listed as DV3000). I think that it has something to do with the lid sensor.

I have a T500 (LENOVO 2081CTO ThinkPad T500) running W7 32 bit. Been working fine since September 10. Today when simply trying to logon the fingerprint sensor has stopped working. Laptop had not even been moved, simply resting on desk and then switched on from powered off.
A few times since have received message that "USB device is being installed" with finally "USB Device could not be installed. There is a problem with your device." Device Manager showed a problem with "USB Composite device"
Powered off/on gave same symptom.
Downloaded & installed latest fingerprint software 7wf162ww.exe. Installed OK. USB device appeared to then automatically pick up and reinstall correctly. BUT still unable to use fingerprint to logon or for with Thinkvantage Client Security.
Using Thinkvantage Lenovo Fingerprint Software gives error "Cannot communicate with sensor. Please confirm the sensor is ready."
I've also noticed the keyboard around the fingerprint sensor is very warm, almost hot. As if it is being constantly turned on?
Fingerprint sensor is AuthenTec Inc. AES2810

i recently bought a brand new hp dv3 with vista installed, want to have xp on it but i got the bluescreen when i tried to install xp.
so i run into the internet to get some information. i think i need the Sata driver for my laptop in the XP cd. But what i want to install to my computer is tinyxp xmas edition, cuz its small, simple and hell fast. I tried to merge the sata driver in there but the iso ended up to be 230mb when the orginal was 600mb? what to do? i think the orginal iso is a different builkd than the orginal xp, oh btw i used nlite.
how do i do to insert sata driver in it ? can anyone explain ?
i found another stripped version of xp (xp performance) with a already inserted sata driver for my laptop, but i only got a blackscreen when i tried to boot the cd, why ? any clue ?
i really want a stripped version of XP in my comp

I have a Dv3500 laptop, the copper colored model, and I recently reinstalled Windows Vista on this laptop. Everything installs and works fine, except the intergrated usb webcam on the monitor.
It's showing up in Device Manager as a USB Webcam, driver details state it is using a driver by Microsoft and that it is working properly.
When I try to use the webcam, I get an error stating that the usb device is in use.
I have already deleted and reinstalled the usb cam, the usb drivers in device manager.
Anyone have a solution? driver? anything?

I'm about at my wit's end trying to get the ALS to work in Win7 on my Precision M4400. I have emailed
Dell and their response was useless, as usual. They said that because I didn't buy the machine
with Win 7, they couldn't help me. (Even though their website states the machine is fully compatible, and even though they're selling M4400s with Win 7 installed.

Just purchased a Pavilion dm4 notebook that came with the Validity Fingerpring scanner. As soon as I bought the laptop, I was quick to install Windows 7 Pro 64 bit as my work requires the extra features in Win 7 Pro. The stock OS that was pre-installed was Win 7 Home Prem.
So here is my issue, the fingerpring scanner wont work. I have the proper driver installed from hp's website (found here) and after rebooting, it still does not work. I have installed the hp Support application that scans my notebook for the latest drivers and found no updates needed. I have not tried rolling back the driver as the option is not available (only one driver was ever installed anyways) and I have also tried uninstalling the driver, rebooting, reinstalling the driver, rebooting, and it still will not work. I have also tried doing the same just previously mention but this time running the installation as an admin (right click, "run as administrator"). Still nothing.... I also tried navigating to the driver folder on C: and then runing the application as an admin, but still come up short handed....
Sometimes the light will come on like its working, but when I go to use it to enroll my fingerprint it just won't do anything.
Is there another piece of software besides the drvier that I need to install to get this work?

I have a Pavilion dv7 (dv7t-6c00) CTO Quad Edition (Product # A1L77AV) that I cannot get the Validity fingerprint sensor to work after installing Windows 8.1 Pro 64-Bit from scratch.
The Windows 8 drivers that are available for this model do not seem to work. Other Windows 8.1 drivers available in HP site do not seem to work either.
The device shows in Computer Management as working, I guess using a Microsoft Driver. The device shows as 'Validity Sensors (WBF) (PID=0018)' under Biometric devices.

Lots of internet search I came to know about HWiNFO software which shows cpu temperature and fan speed.... I have seen sometimes cpu gets heated up but the fan is not started yet causing overheat issue.. so as shutting down the system... my bios is up to date as per dell website latest bios driver version A15... I am sensing that that the thermal sensor may be not working properly always... Please note down not always it is happening sometimes it is happening...???

At this point I've already replaced the inverter, screen, and LCD cable. I'm guessing the problem has to be with the motherboard.

I turned it on from the Windows Mobility Center, but it's not working at all, do i need to install any drivers for it? I work mostly during night time and a backlight would really good...

I have the fingerprint reader working fine for logging in, but I was wondering if it's possible to make it work with general applications like internet browsers?
It is possible on Vista, but I don't know how to get it working on Win 7.

I have the business HP NC4200 laptop, which has a great ambient light sensor.
I generally disable it, because the screen gets too dim in nearly every situation, in my opinion.
But I noticed something strange. When the ambient light sensor is disabled, it is possible to adjust the screen's brightness at your own taste. This is logical.
But you cannot get the screen to 100% brightness. The only way to get 100% brightness is to actually ACTIVATE the ambient light sensor and get a very bright light source right into the ambient light sensor. Then the screen gets MUCH brighter.
Don't bother saying, I've used the Fn keys to control the LCD brightness. That's they way it works.
I use notebook hardware control, and with the nc4200 I can monitor the power consumption of the system in Watts. When the screen is maxed out without the ambient light sensor (which is approx. 50% of the LCD brightness, in reality) the system consumes around 10 watts of power.
When I max the screen with the trick mentioned above, the screen consumes +2 Watts! No need to mention battery life drops a lot.
But I do like that brightness! I'd like to keep it all the time. But it's impossible to apply the trick all the time..................

Before the end of 2013 I bought an Ideapad U530 Touch for school and it's been working fine up until a few days ago when the backlight for the left most CTRL key stopped working and shut off completely. Every other key on the board is fine, except for this one. Is there any easy to fix to this problem, or do I need to send the entire computer back?

I have a dv9700 that I have owned for over a year and recently upgraded to Windows 7 (about a month ago.) I was happy with how everything was working until suddenly today when I went to turn on my laptop it appeared the screen was dead...upon looking closer I realized that the backlight was off. I could barely make out anything on the screen but it did have an error message stating that Windows failed to boot and gave the option of repairing the system. I went through this "startup repair" utility (still no working backlight) and got my computer to boot up. Everything seems to run normally now except the backlight is still not functioning most of the time (at the moment I have the screen balanced just right so that it is on.) I had a similar problem with my screen about half a year ago but the laptop was still under warranty at the time so HP replaced the screen for free...not the case this time unfortunately I seem to remember reading that flashing the BIOS can solve a problem like this, however there is apparently no support for Windows 7 through HP Support's software and drivers page (I tried installing the latest version of winflash for my laptop...vista 64 bit but got an error message saying it was not compatible with my system)

I am having some strange problems with the backlight on my dv9700...I started a thread about this maybe 2 months ago but the backlight for whatever reason started working again and I didn't have too many issues with it until recently. Lately the backlight has only been working when it is plugged in...If I unplug it but leave the lid open it still works but as soon as I close the lid and open it again its out until I plug it back in and open and close the lid. Now I can't get the backlight to work at all except it lights up for 2 seconds or so upon closing and opening the lid. I removed the display bezel to access the display inverter and check for any loose or damaged connectors but they all appear to be fine...unplugging and plugging the display panel cable connector back in also causes the backlight to work for 2 seconds and then go out again. Besides the backlight issue the laptop seems to be working perfectly fine...can anyone help me figure this out? I should mention that I upgraded this laptop to Windows 7 right away when it was released.
