my backlight and touchpad are not working since i replaced my DV3000's motherboard with one meant for a DV3500 (wrongly listed as DV3000). I think that it has something to do with the lid sensor.
View 3 Replies View RelatedMy MediaSmart just stopped working. I have tried system restore to a point where I knew they worked. I have redownloaded the updates from HP for MediaSmart, Quicklaunch, and BIOS. None of those made a difference. I just continue getting the error -
"HP MediaSmart SmartMenu has stopped working A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available"
Of course - HP does not offer the full software anywhere I can find.
I have a new DV8T and I'm having a problem with the MediaSmart MVP crashing after i start the program. I have searched here and other sites for a couple of days trying to find a fix and haven't. Here is what it is doing...
It will crash within a minute of the program loading, it doesn't matter if it is in music, video or picture section. It has done this from the very start. It also does this from a clean install of Windows 7. I can't figure out what is causing it to crash all the time.
on my old laptop, a lenovo, if i wanted to change the settings of the webcam to lets say black and white, or low light mode, all i would have to do was go into the properties and change it ... then for whatever webcam application i used whether it was facebook video, ooVoo, skype, the webcam would be black and white in low light mode.
but with this HP webcam ... everytime i open up a webcam application the HP mediasmart webcam opens up, and then all my settings from the last time are gone. and when i try to leave a facebook video the mediasmart webcam application doesnt even open up.
BASICALLY, what i am asking is... is there any way to save the webcam preferences on this HP webcam so it is the same for whatever application i use ?
i've got a Dv5t which had vista 32bit and i formatted the hard disk and installed windows 7 64 bit... whenever i try to install hp mediasmart, it refuses to install..
View 10 Replies View Relatedif this weren't so annoying it might be funny. It's the old haywire mediasmart controls. It keeps turning my wireless on and off and maxing out my CPU.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI am having a hard time separating the wheat from the chaff with the buttload of worthless crap HP installed on this otherwise good machine.
I domped the obvious stuff. Now I am trying to play DVDs and am running into problems. MediaSmart cant make it through a single DVD without hanging for munites at a time. Is MediaSmart just crapware like the rest?
I like the idea of a media oriented laptop, but if the software is crap, what good is it. I like WMC, but it just cuts back to mediasmart for DVDs.
I want to dump the junkware, but I need a DVD component for WMC. Am I doing something wrong and somehow spoiling the greatness of 'Mediasmart', or do I need to junk it? If I do, how do I play DVD from WMC without spending money on something I should already have. Is there a free DVD play app that plugs into WMC, or a hack to unlock some builtin DVD functionality?
my webcam won't launch so i downloaded the latest update from hp software and drivers website..
it auto extracted then did some things in cmd, then just went blank, no confirmation and certainly no installation...it's not installing and i do not know why!
i used recovery manager to restore original software but no luck,...
does anyone know a good free webcame application that has similar effects and a good compressor? (compressor not necessary)
I've been looking for a laptop, and I'm pretty sure I'm going with the HP Pavilion dv7t.
However, I do need help configuring all of the optional things:
I plan on using this laptop for playing newer games like Call of Duty and L4D2. Which video card is better, 512MB Mobility Radeon HD 4530, or 1GB Mobility Radeon HD 4650? Why?
Do I need to upgrade to a wireless-N wifi card to use an N router?
Is a core 2 duo 2.13GHz, 3 MB L2 Cache, 1066MHz FSB better than a core 2 duo 2.2GHz, 2MB L2 Cache, 800MHz FSB? Why?
If I opt not to get a TV tuner, is it possible to add one in later? How?
I've got a new dv7t. I did a clean install of vista and then installed the latest quick launch drivers from the hp site (6.4 or so). Is there supposed to be a way to configure what these buttons (besides the wireless, mute and volume) do?
View 5 Replies View RelatedAs always im trying to make my comp run faster by having less unnecessary programs running and starting up. I have a dv5-1235dx BTW.
At startup (msconfig) i see a few HP programs that im not sure if i need or not to be starting up. This is what i see: HP MediaSmart, HP Quick Launch Buttons, HP health Check Scheduler, HP Wireless Assistant, GrooveMonitor Utility, Java Platform.
I recently bought the dv6-1260se, 'Artists Edition' and am so far loving it, except for the whole Windows Vista Issue.
I've had it a whole 3 days and it's already throwing errors. I installed Aion and World of Warcraft, and for one day, WoW could alt-tab fine. Now it gives a green alt-tab box and only shows the start/task bar. I hafta complete restart the entire thing to fix it, it won't even tab back to the game. Also, when I tried to use a bluetooth mouse, it started throwing HID errors. I update the quicklauch buttons like the HP help suggested, but still no luck. I got the bluetooth mouse to work, but discovered it was pretty bleh and it lagged when in games. Windows Vista is up-to-date save for Service Pack 2. The ATI video drivers are also updated from ATI.
I have Windows 7 RC on all the other computers in the house, and had it on my prior Compaq 3 year old beast before the board fried itself for the last time. I've already pre-ordered my Windows 7 for this laptop through HP, but I'm not sure if I can wait till oct. 22.
However, the Artists Edition comes with alot of decent preloaded software. Corel's paintshop pro, painter and something else. Also there's Stardock's MyColors, LoginStudio and I think Object Desktop. Some of these programs have a beta for Win 7, others don't.
However, I don't have registration keys or anything for these programs. I don't think I'll have problems with Corel's stuff (if Win 7 translates the reg keys correctly), but Stardock's stuff will hafta be eventally updated and they need keys for updates.
how to use the built-in webcam on the dv7 to take still pictures?
Or I must install additional software?
Is there any to download from hp site?
Or any freeware programs available?
I got the HP HDX16 and I want to change the OS to Vista Ultimate 64 or Windows 7 64bit RC.
Thing is, I didnt find the programs that came with the notebook at the HP website. For example, Microsoft Works, Cyberlink DVD Suite, HP recovery manager etc.
Is there any way to install them after the format? Or do I have to get stuck with Home Premium?
While I was almost a 100% certain my next laptop would be the asus ul30jc, I just saw the folowing laptop in a local advertisement and I must say i'm tempted (being a student, I use almost all of my free money on vacation, food and alcohol so every saved € counts):
Compaq Mini 311c
Intel Atam N270 (1.6ghz)
1 GB RAM
160 GB HDD
Nvidia ION LE (shared memory)
Wifi b/g
Windows XP home (service pack3)
Battery info unknown, though most sites say it has a 6 cell battery.
359€
So I have a few questions. First and most importent of all, I need to know how long the battery will last, if its +7 hours i'm content.
Second, I have no idea what kind of wifi I need, I use that white Belgacom Digital TV Router so perhaps my fellow Belgians can help me on this? When I use system information it says my wifi in my current laptop is A/G/N.
Third, will I be able to install the newest microsoft office programs (I have 2003, 2007 and will most likely buy 2010 aswell) on windows xp home?
Last but not least, will I see a big difference if I upgrade from 1gb of 2gb of ram? I noticed a big difference on my current laptop when I upgraded my ram, but since that hp compac has a very weak processor, it might be pointless since that cpu might bottleneck the effect?
I need to order a couple Dell E6400's for my company. We want to do 4 monitors on each one through a docking station, that is the part that is giving me some trouble.
Does the E-Plus docking station have a built in video card that supports multiple monitors .....
I am playing around with configuring a Dell Precision M6400 online and I'm confused about a couple of things. In the ad copy on the website it says that laptop can have up to 16GB of RAM, but when you try to configure the laptop on Dell's website it only shows up to 4GB. Also, I see no option for Vista 64-bit to take advantage of more RAM.
Do you have to call about these features, or am I just stupid and missing it on the website?
Also, I assume adding your own RAM is easy on these machines? Does it void the warranty? Because I assume the thing to do is buy it with the least amount of RAM and add your own aftermarket, correct?
I would like to configure it myself. But this doesn't seem to be possible in Europe? On the website, I can only select from a very select number of preconfigured models with fixed prices. Am I perhaps not looking in the right place or is configuring really limited to USA only?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI own a Probook 4740s. It came preinstalled with Windows 8 and HP security tools. Recently I decided to upgrade to Windows 8.1 and in order to do this I had to uninstall HP security tools. I succeded uninstalling and updating Windows. After a day of usage the computer hanged. I refreshed it using HP recovery. As the OS version was old it updated itself after a day or two. The update went fine. After booting windows the next day It started configuring updates. Something went wrong and it failed with : "Failure configuring windows updates reverting changes". It hanged up and never finished. I refreshed again believing it didn't properly refresh. The whole thing happened again.
After refreshing again and then completlly reinstalling windows the problem persists. By this point I refreshed the computer 4 times and reinstalled Windows 1 time. I tried turning off all non-windows services and updating as per this forum : [URL] ... but it didn't work. It failed with:"Failure configuring windows changes. Reverting changes"...

View 9 Replies View RelatedI brought my Inspiron 600m back to life and did a fresh install of Windows XP SP2. After that I began installing drivers for it from Dell.com at the following link.

Now there wasn't any  drivers that other recommended like chipset/system drivers available when searching by service tag. However if you search by model (600m) a lot more come up. Im not sure if I should download any of them.
My problem is it cannot connect to the internet and the ethernet port is dead. I have no error messages. I tried LANÂ connections using an ethernet cable to another machine and it does not take.
I am running Intel PROSet/Wireless and it does see nearby networks but cannot connect. It says configuration failed. I have read all the usual documents for troubleshooting but no solution yet. I have heard there where some flaws with this model and some of the equipment.Â
I have a HP laptop model 2000-2C27CL running Windows 8 that I was given because the person cracked the screen. I have removed the bad screen and I am waiting for a replacement screen to be delivered. In the meantime I have hooked this laptop up to a external monitor. I reformatted the computer and get into Windows with no problem. I got all of the driver updates that the HP Update Center said it needed. I then proceed to get updates for the Win8 OS itself.. they download, install, and upon reboot I get the message...

So I reformatted the computer again (very time consuming with Win8 IME) and the same thing happens all over again....

My Dell Inspiron 1525 has suddenly decided not to turn on. I get up to a Windows Vista screen where it says "Configuring updates stage 3/3" and then it restarts itself again and again. I can't get it to do anything else. Before it wasn't even getting that far and it was restarting itself and giving me the option to launch startup repair which I did. I tried to restore the system but I was told that there were no system restore points. I turned it off and on again and it then started to take me up to the configuring updates page but no further than that and I no longer get the launch startup repair option. I have also been having a problem with the battery where every time I turn it on it says "ac power adapter wattage and type cannot be determined" and then won't charge so I can only run it when plugged in but at the moment I would just like to get it to turn on!

I am having a problem with my keyboard on my dell studio 1737. When you press certain keys on the keyboard the adjacent keys are activated as well as the key itself. I've tried various techniques I've read about to correct the problem such as removing power from the laptop for an extended period of time and installing new bios drivers but nothing seems to work. From the information I can gather this is a common problem with this model of Dell laptop. What is the best way to correct this problem. Will replacing the keyboard correct this problem or is there some other problem causing the malfunction?

Info about computer-
HP Laptop
Used. (Go figure.)
#2 and y key missing.
Battery is very bad.
Keeps saying "standing by"
Will go to a page when I don't click on it.
My dad is seeing if I can take care of this one before I get my brand new one.
My cousing bought an HP Compaq 6720s a few month back, and suddenly part of her keyboard stopped working. All keys on the right third of the keyboard stopped working.
gshould I RMA the notebook?
These keys aren't working:
i got an Envy 15 last week and i LOVE it! however i have a problem, the function keys along the top have some 'issues'
if i hold the 'fn' key and press them they work as F1 F2 etc as expected but some of them dont work as they should when pressed on their own!
The brightness, media, and screen selection keys work fine but the F1 key doesnt bring up help as it should and the f12 key doesnt lock the system! This is annoying as i use my laptop at work and lock it whenever i go away from my desk so pressing 1 key to lock would be very useful! The strange thing is, it worked fine yesterday but isnt working today!
