HP Lockups :: Failure Configuring Updates / Changes - Probook 4740s Hanging

I own a Probook 4740s. It came preinstalled with Windows 8 and HP security tools. Recently I decided to upgrade to Windows 8.1 and in order to do this I had to uninstall HP security tools. I succeded uninstalling and updating Windows. After a day of usage the computer hanged. I refreshed it using HP recovery. As the OS version was old it updated itself after a day or two. The update went fine. After booting windows the next day It started configuring updates. Something went wrong and it failed with : "Failure configuring windows updates reverting changes". It hanged up and never finished. I refreshed again believing it didn't properly refresh. The whole thing happened again.
After refreshing again and then completlly reinstalling windows the problem persists. By this point I refreshed the computer 4 times and reinstalled Windows 1 time. I tried turning off all non-windows services and updating as per this forum : [URL] ... but it didn't work. It failed with:"Failure configuring windows changes. Reverting changes"...

I have a HP laptop model 2000-2C27CL running Windows 8 that I was given because the person cracked the screen. I have removed the bad screen and I am waiting for a replacement screen to be delivered. In the meantime I have hooked this laptop up to a external monitor. I reformatted the computer and get into Windows with no problem. I got all of the driver updates that the HP Update Center said it needed. I then proceed to get updates for the Win8 OS itself.. they download, install, and upon reboot I get the message...
"Failure configuring Windows updates Reverting changes Do not turn off your computer."
So I reformatted the computer again (very time consuming with Win8 IME) and the same thing happens all over again....

I just factory reset my hp pavilion g6 laptop with recovery media and after reset i tried to update and it showed downloading updates and its on 0% for half hr then updates where downloaded and installed and during restart I get this message :- "Failure configuring Windows updates. This computer is my friends. I don't know what she did to it. I have fixed it before but this has been running a for hours and the same message stays there.

My Dell Inspiron 1525 has suddenly decided not to turn on. I get up to a Windows Vista screen where it says "Configuring updates stage 3/3" and then it restarts itself again and again. I can't get it to do anything else. Before it wasn't even getting that far and it was restarting itself and giving me the option to launch startup repair which I did. I tried to restore the system but I was told that there were no system restore points. I turned it off and on again and it then started to take me up to the configuring updates page but no further than that and I no longer get the launch startup repair option. I have also been having a problem with the battery where every time I turn it on it says "ac power adapter wattage and type cannot be determined" and then won't charge so I can only run it when plugged in but at the moment I would just like to get it to turn on!

I keep getting blue screens complaining about igdpmd64.sys x00000050. I noticed on the day that I suddenly started getting blue screens Windows installed a bunch of windows 7 x64 updates. Does the recent windows updates can cause this?
At times I cannot even reboot normally when it occurs. I have had to restore to a previous version.

Last night my laptop was working perfectly and then when I tried to turn the computer on, it loaded and went to the startup screen with the Microsoft logo and from there it got stuck. I tried to hit F11 but no satisfactory result. I've also tried to take the battery out, but that didn't work either. I also tried to Setup my windows bt it also stuck up there. I don't know what to do...I also ran tests on both the Hard Drive and Memory (Esc>> F10>> File>>System Diagnostics>>Memory tese/Hard Disk test). And the result was:Hard Disk Check: "Quick Check: SMART Check: NOT AVAILABLE and Short DST: WARNING" and "Extensive Check: PASSED in everything"Memory Check: PASSED now what should i do?Mine model is HP ProBook 4440s...Currently running on Windows 7.

I have a brand new ProBook 430 G2 (SKU # G6W35EA#ABB) with Windows 8.1, fully updated. I find that every 10-15 minutes, the left button on the trackpad becomes unresponsive. The trackpad still moves the mouse pointer and the right button continues to work, but the left button does not react. This lasts for several minutes, perhaps 3-4. Then the left button resumes working as if nothing had happened. Since the button resumes working, I suspect it is more likely to be a software issue with the driver or Windows 8.1.
I have Synaptics TouchPad driver version 18.1.8.1, the current version of the driver.
I have Windows 8.1 version 6.3.9600.
I have Bios version HP M74 version 1.03 (07/07/2014)

I read about uninstalling and reinstalling the driver for the Synaptic product. Would uninstalling the driver leave me without any mouse funtionality in the mean time?

Just bought some ProBook 655 G1 notebooks (AMD A10 5750M). But all USB doesn't work. No mouse, no USB flash. Mouse works only in BIOS. Installed drivers in Windows 7 x64, but it not works. And it sometimes freezes when i restart notebook. Then i take second notebook, but it is all the same, usb doesn't work. I googled, that i must disconnect usb device, when rebooting, and thats true - with no usb connected laptop boots fine. But USB still doesn't work.

I have a HP ProBook 4530s, using Windows 7 64-bit OS, Intel Core i3-2310M CPU (2.10 GHz).My laptop is about 21 months old and I am facing some problems when puting my laptop into hibernate mode. Everything was fine for a long time - that is, when I put it in the hibernate mode it turned off and when I pressed the power on button it resumed. However, that isn't the case any longer.Now when I put it in the hibernate mode, it (usually) goes hibernating and after few seconds it turns back on (all by itself!). Sometimes it hibernates for 10 or 20 minutes (or even more) and then again, it turns back on all by itself!This problem just started occuring, I didn't install or update or do anything.

my laptop has 4 gig of ram which in 32bit vista it just uses 3 gig.....
now the problem is that also the half of ram is empty but the physical memory is full....
and this slows the laptop very much......

in my laptop acer aspire 6930 g I use Speed Fan programe and I find that temperature of processor intel core 2 duo 2Ghz reach to 70 C and video card nvidia 9600m GT reach to 70 to 72 C and hard disk temp reach to 55 to 60 C during playing games like need for speed undercover and Crysis and many and many times game stop working and laptop hang then game close by itself or I close it using task manager and I do not know if this problem occur due to high temperature of laptop devices or duo to something else and u should knowthat these games work well for some time before hanging problem occur..
and temperature of my laptop devices during normal use is:
processors 43 C to 52 C and video card 57 C to 60 C and hard disk 42 C to 50 C
So is previous temperature normal in this laptop and what I can do to solve this problem?

i switched my xps m1710 on to read my emails. switched off once done, went out, came home, switched on again and there was a funny pattern over the boot screen. got to XP load screen and screen had large green blocks over it.
after that, screen went "garbled", went black and then the whole system hung. i couldnt restart by pressing the power button, had to hard shutdown by holding the button.
it will only boot properly in VGA or safe mode, im using it in VGA mode now. onboard diagnostics say connections to screen, inverter and lcd graphics are ok, bios reflash (A07) and latest graphics driver re-installed.
system is: dual core centrino 2.16ghz, 4gb RAM(3.25 in XP), nvidia geforce GO 7900 GTX graphics card.
no previous issues with overheating etc, does anyone know what might be wrong, or how i can find out?
laptop is 2 years old now, but no other problems at all.

I am using new dell inspiron 15R 5537 with windows 8.1. i having issues continous hangiung and freezing issues even i have reboot my windows but the issue is still remaining. when i checked the task manager the disk memory is 100% while nothing is running other than a sinle folder. I am having a warantey till December...
before i thought that this issue is due to the drivers but I have reboot the window again and run this without drivers but issue does not resolved...

I received my Y510P monday and the performance has been as expected. But Win 8.1 would often freeze, hang, even on restart and shutdown screen where I had to manually shut it down. I have found that uninstalling expresscache seems to have solved the hangups/freezes... I tried uninstalling, clearing my cache drive, and re-installing with latest expresscache version but still the same problem. Had to uninstall it. Is this a compatibility thing with win 8.1 or a hardware problem? I ran Seatools, and the SSD passes all the test EXCEPT long generic. Although SSDLIFE says that it is in perfect condition and should be good until 2022.

I have the following specs and hoping that someone with similar specs can run a small test and report back on their results.
Intel(R) Core(TM) 2 Duo Processor P9500 (2.53GHz/ 1066 FSB/ 6MB Cache)
256MB NVIDIA(R) GeForce(R) 9500M-GE
4GB Dual Channel 1067MHz DDR3 SDRAM
500GB SATA Hard Drive
Windows Vista(R) Ultimate 32 bit SP1
BIOS version: A03 (updated through the Dell support site)
The problem I have tends to arise when I put the laptop into Vista's sleep mode. It hangs after it sits in sleep more for about 30 minutes. Basically, the XPS media control touch buttons do their little dance show, then the laptop hangs and doesn't respond. I have to do a reset with the power button.
I have been testing where the problem is: Yesterday, I rolled back the video card to the 'GeForce 9400M G' driver. The sleep mode issue went away.
I then reinstalled the 'GeForce 9500M (9400 + 9200)' driver and the issue came back.
Hoping that someone who has similar specs to mine, can run a test by putting their computer into "Sleep Mode" (keeping hybrid sleep OFF) and then:
1. Wake it up immediately (this has been working for me); and
2. Wake it up after 30-40 minutes.

I am playing around with configuring a Dell Precision M6400 online and I'm confused about a couple of things. In the ad copy on the website it says that laptop can have up to 16GB of RAM, but when you try to configure the laptop on Dell's website it only shows up to 4GB. Also, I see no option for Vista 64-bit to take advantage of more RAM.
Do you have to call about these features, or am I just stupid and missing it on the website?
Also, I assume adding your own RAM is easy on these machines? Does it void the warranty? Because I assume the thing to do is buy it with the least amount of RAM and add your own aftermarket, correct?

I've been looking for a laptop, and I'm pretty sure I'm going with the HP Pavilion dv7t.
However, I do need help configuring all of the optional things:
I plan on using this laptop for playing newer games like Call of Duty and L4D2. Which video card is better, 512MB Mobility Radeon HD 4530, or 1GB Mobility Radeon HD 4650? Why?
Do I need to upgrade to a wireless-N wifi card to use an N router?
Is a core 2 duo 2.13GHz, 3 MB L2 Cache, 1066MHz FSB better than a core 2 duo 2.2GHz, 2MB L2 Cache, 800MHz FSB? Why?
If I opt not to get a TV tuner, is it possible to add one in later? How?

I've got a new dv7t. I did a clean install of vista and then installed the latest quick launch drivers from the hp site (6.4 or so). Is there supposed to be a way to configure what these buttons (besides the wireless, mute and volume) do?
