HP EliteBook 8400p Lockups :: Unable To Boot System - Read Failure Error
Sep 7, 2014
My laptop model is HP Elite Book 8400p.I can't boot the system. In system diagnostics, it gives start up test, run in test, hard disk test as failure...Reason shown is "Test(quick).....Error:Read failure Error:Read failure".. How can I solve this?
I have several HP 8530p and I getting the num lock & cap lock leds blinking 5 times which indicates a general system board error. Bought new boards still getting the same issue. Note all the units will boot to windows fine, but there is a 10-15 sec delay in hard drive response when operating pc. The mouse is real time responsive but once you clink on a item the lag shows up. What to look for as the problem, CPU , Memory changed, Fans, Cooling system. Bios versions have been updated, I've torn the unit down, cleaned and added new thermal paste to CPU, GPU and added copper shims to promote better heat transfer. The system Diagnostics indicates hardware is ok.
There's a "disk read error occured" when I startup and it won't boot into windows at all. I did a hard disk test in BIOS and the Short DST failed and the failure id is GTU23F-5QF788-XD6V5F-60UR0 for Hard Disk 1. I know there's an 80 SSD and 750 HD but which one failed?
If the ssd failed can I use the 750gb HD or does it need both?
If I do need to replace the SSD can I replace it with a regular HD (on a budget) and what size drive do I need? 2.5?
This computer is my friends. I don't know what she did to it. I have fixed it before but this has been running a for hours and the same message stays there.
"HP 2000 error failure configuring windows update revertong changes do not turn off computer"
I have an Elitebook 8540w laptop. I wanted to upgrade RAM memory from 2x2GB to 2x4GB. I bought not a kit of 2x4GB as i wanted to, instead I bought two 4GB memory chips from HP.
After replacing the modules the laptop does not boot up.
What has been done: - Bios Default Restore
My first question is: i realize it is better to buy a kit of 2 matched chips, but is it a must?
I've tried to restore system to factory default by pressing Ctrl+F11 in my XPS M1210. After confirmation to proceed I got the message: General failure error 36000.
I re-installed Windows XP but I'm having troubles with drivers not installed by the Windows re-install process.
I have a presario C500 I went to turn it on and it said enter power on password. i dont have on then after so many tries it said SYSTEM DISABLED 13865 i cant be with out my laptop i need it for school..
Unable to get my HP Mini 110 - 1047NR to boot up. Nothing is working because it wont allow me to perform any Functions at all. The fatal Error Code i am getting is CNU936077R.
using my unmodded 9300 and shut down for the night. This morning, when I tried to reboot, the process would get to the Windows splash screen, then flash a blue screen so fast I couldn't read it, then go to a black screen that gave me 5 options to start windows. No matter which one I pick, the same process happens again.
I videotaped the blue screen and it reads: a problem has been detected and windows has shut down to prevent damage to my computer unmountable_boot_volume and then it gives me unhelpful advice on how to fix the problem.
I ran the Pre boot system assessment and all items passed. Then I ran the Dell Diagnostic Utility for "unable to boot O/S" with the following results: HD Read Test error: 00F0:0244 and HD Verify Test error: 00F0:1A44. Both of these were on sectors in the middle of the volume and I canceled both tests after about 10 errors. All other memory, graphics, and HD tests passed.
I tried booting from the XP CD and repairing from the CD with no change. I ran chkdsk /p and it found one or more errors on the volume.
bootcfg /list gives me: there are currently no boot entries available to display.
What are my best options on trying to recover this without losing data? I have a fairly recent backup, but would like to try to save what's on the HD. Parallel install? What is fixboot used for?
Dell lists my drive as: M7601 Hard Drive, 60GB, 9.5MM, 7.2K Hitachi, Ibm Moraga
What is the drive of choice to replace this if I need to?
My computer won't boot an I have the error stated in the title. Also where is the installation disk I can use to fix my computer, do you get them with the pc.
I updated BIOS (it's now Hewlett-Packard F.49) with a download from HP's website. I wish I hadn't done that because it made my laptop ill. When booting up it freezes and the only thing I see is the black screen with HP logo. No button works.
Later I've found out that BIOS itself ain't the problem (I tried to recover the old version for long without any success), it's the USB devices attached or the USB ports, dunno. My laptop boots normally and works perfectly if I take off all the USB plug-ins before I press the power button. After the black screen has passed I can plug in the USBs and they work too.URL....
I tried to read a blu-ray disc yesterday, it opens Acer Arcade Deluxe and then I get a black screen, nothing happens...
When I purchased the laptop I tried the sample blue-ray that comes with it and it works perfectly, but apparently not the blu-ray that I rented yesterday. Do you guys think it might be a zone issue ? I am in canada and I have the zone set to A, so it should be ok.
I already upgraded to the version of Acer Arcade Deluxe.
I have a 2 year old inspiron 15 (M5030) running win 7 and have had 2 problems that keep coming up
1) I run the dell diagnostics in the Dell Support Center for my hd and it keeps coming up "targeted read test failed" how do i fix that
2) I keep getting the message "USB Device Not recognized" message pop up constantly especially when I'm using my laptop on my lap when I don't have anything attached to a USB port. How do I get that to stop popping up...
New Elitebook 850 G1. Started set up. Wrote down recovery key. Set up security. Installed Mozilla Firefox. Shut down. Later when starting up, computer went immediately to f11 and driver encryption recovery. Tried typing in recovery key but got message "file does not exist". Went into BIOS to change password...still not accepted. I have a brand new computer that is useless.
I was reformatting my iPod the other day and I left the house to go run some errands and when I got back I was greeted with the BSOD. So I just restarted my computer like always when suddenly I was greeted with this:
PBR 2... done
A disk read error has occurred Press Ctrl + Alt + Del to restart
So I pressed Ctrl + Alt + Del and got the same message. About 5 times later I was able to run some sort of diagnostics and it was showing something with my HDD. So I tore my computer apart and put everything back in just to see if that would work and I'm still getting the same.
Am I just screwed out of my 20GB of music and all those programs that I had on my computer or is there some sort of fix to be able to recover the data? And will I just have to cave and get a new HDD?
I just got the Elitebook 850 G1 and I've put all the settings to sleep when I close the lid and wake up when I open it. I've checked both settings in windows and in the BIOS and it's all good but when I actually do it, it doesn't wake up but restarts the computer instead. So when I've been typing away on Word, I constantly save it but it doesn't go back to where I left it. I thought it was one of the graphics drivers at first, because it has dual graphics, intel and ati. It's had some issues with the ATI but I think I've fixed it. I'm running windows 8.1 Pro.
I tried changing the settings to hibernate instead and what it gave me was a BSOD. Video_dxgkrnl_fatal_error. i remember it did that the first time i tried to do it before when it was on sleep mode.
When I'm working, typing the keyboard and touchpad hangs. The only thing i can use is the usb mouse.
after logging off and logging back in, I can use the keyboard and touchpad again(once I needed to restart, because loggin and logging off didn't work). It happened with Windows 7 Enterprise 32 bit and 64 bits. I have done all the updates, and HP updates also
I have let HP Dealer for my country to check things out, they say the hardware is okay, but the only thing i did not let them use the harddrive, due to confidential data on it. But my problem is that it looses connectivity at random, sometimes after 45 minutes or after 4 hours. Sometimes the laptop freezes during usage of the laptop. I need to do a hard reset(holding the power button for 20 seconds).
I have started Windows without start up programs to no avail. does the same.
I'm using: McAfee antivirus, windows firewall, Toad 9.01, MS OFFICE, ssh programs, FTp programs.
Another colleague has the same laptop with the same operating system on it. with the same antivirus, and he does not have this problem.
HP Elitebook 8460p will not recognise the DVD player. If I go to control panel under Device Manager, the under DVD/CD-ROM Drives it shows hp DVD A DS8A5LH and has an exclamation mark on the little icon.
If I right click and under General it shows the message "Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)"
I have tried unistalling and then re-installing via "Scanning for hardware changes" all to no avail. It still gives the same error. I have tried to update drivers and states that driver is up to date.
last night, I got on my desktop momentaily. Closed the laptop lid(laptop is still on) and placed the keyboard on top of the laptop so I can open the Linux gFTP program, connect to my sites FTP and run a full backup before I went to bed. No problem.
Slept about 8 hours, woke up. Opened the laptop LID to check email and forums, and I'm greeted with a BSOD. Great. Laptop is extremely warm too. So I soft shut down (holding the power button down) and the computer reboots itself.
Well, it takes a little while for the PC to boot, then I'm greeted with a.
Loading PBR 2....Done . . A disk read error occured Press Alt Ctrl Del to restart
I guess this is the prime time to go ahead and upgrade that small 60Gb harddrive,
