May 17, 2012I have a HP Pavilion dv6 3016sl laptop but I can't enter BIOS or choose the device to boot. I tried F1, F2, F9, F10 and F11. None of them work.

Oct 14, 2014The original hdd was stopped functioning on my aspire v5-431. I try to put in other laptop but wont spin at all. The laptop was preinstalled with Windows 8 UEFI and safe boot on or something like that and gpt partition i guess and now i can not boot or enter in bios, how to flash bios or to install on this new hdd windows 8.
I tried everything from removing the motherboard batteryto boot from usb with bios file and Crisis files and nothing. The f2 button doesn't work and acer crisis recovery ask for wph file format and i just have rom file format.

Dec 13, 2013I get the error in the Title after i tried to flash the latest BIOS update for the Z510. I can press ok and then get into the boot manager but i cant choose anything there. Also I cant boot from a Disk with e.g. XP on it.
I also tried the Inside BIOS crisis mode (fn+r) with the BIOS file on my USB drive but it doesn't work and tries to access the file on the USB drive but boots normally instead to the error again. (Couldn't try it with removed battery as I have to remove the whole back to remove the battery on the Z510).

Nov 14, 2014I have HP pavilion dv7 which won't let me in BIOS to change boot order.
I have windows 8 32 bit installed and it keep booting normally no matter which key (Esc,F9,F10,F1,F2 etc) at start up, is pressed or keep pressed.. it wont stop booting and wont let me in BIOS. All it does it that if keys are pressed it will start beeping but then boot anyway.
I want to boot it from USB and install WIndows 8.1 64 bit.

Nov 8, 2014I own a CQ56-203SG Laptop which was doing fine for years (I do not remember when I bought it). No misuse, no hard hits. New HP Battery since a few month.No difficulties before. Used it with Ubuntu which worked perfect! No M$Windows ever touched this machine. It does not boot any more. Even BIOS is not reachable.Start by pressing the power button leads to: Light in power button is on, orange light in key F12 is on, white light in CapsLock key is slowly blinking. No signal by coded blinking recognised.
Fan is on, slowly, constant.Monitor remains dark. HD lamp does one short flicker when powered on, remains dark then. It does NOT make a difference if lid is closed or open. Obviously even going to BIOS is not working. Last status before failure:OS working, lid closed, machine was sleeping.Did not wake up. After several attempts it woke up exactly once. After restart it remained dark for ever. Formerly all that worked fine for years. I tried to power down completely including battery remove and then press power button to drain capacitors. No result. I tried the Win + b keystroke combination, no result. Machine dead.

Feb 3, 2015I updated BIOS (it's now Hewlett-Packard F.49) with a download from HP's website. I wish I hadn't done that because it made my laptop ill. When booting up it freezes and the only thing I see is the black screen with HP logo. No button works.
Later I've found out that BIOS itself ain't the problem (I tried to recover the old version for long without any success), it's the USB devices attached or the USB ports, dunno. My laptop boots normally and works perfectly if I take off all the USB plug-ins before I press the power button. After the black screen has passed I can plug in the USBs and they work too.URL....

I tried to upgrade the BIOS to F.55 which was provided by HP. After successfull installation of new BIOS windows shutdown properly. I start the PC again, HP Logo appears, and then nothing happen. The OS does not load or boot at all.
I also tried to boot using Windows 98 Second Edition CD (to load DOS) but this also did not work.

Aug 7, 2014I bought a ThinkPad 540p that comes with preloaded Windows 8.1. As I want to dual boot the machine I tried to select the Legacy Boot option in the BIOS/Startup tab, but I can't do anything as the option UEFI/Legacy Book is greyed out and locked in "UEFI Only". Below it there is an option called: -CSM Support that is also greyed out and selected as [No]. (below these options there is a little note with an asterisk saying "Unselectable for Secure Boot").
How can I enable the UEFI/Legacy Boot option again in order to dual boot the computer? I want to be able to boot from USB or from the CD Drive.

May 25, 2014My Ideapoad P500 is approximately 16 months old (so the warranty period is out, obviously!) A couple of nights after a reboot I got the message "Repairing Hard Disk errors. This could take an hour or longer."... or something very similar. The laptop hung up at that message for more than 18 hours.
I did a hard reboot and now get the message "Checking media" followed by the error "Boot failed." This leads to the message, "Default Boot Device Missing or Boot Failed."No I don't have any recovery media.Yes I have pretty recent backups so that is not a problem.I've got an enclosure that I can use to hook my laptop hard drive up to so I can see if the drive is even readable.
Now here is the 64 thousand dollar question... how do I get the hard drive out of the laptop? I have taken the five screws out of the back. At that point, I think the DVD drive should slide out, but it does not.how to get the hard drive out?

Jul 31, 2013I have a y500 Lenovo gaming laptop with Windows 8, and for the past couple of days, each time my laptop is put in hibernation or powered down, whenever I turn it back on it gives me this message:
"Default Boot Device Missing or boot failed Insert recovery media and hit any key Then select boot manager to choose a new boot device to boot or recovery media."
Then it brings me to a page with 3 boot options, and only the Windows Boot Manager works. I'm doing scans and hardware scans but so far nothing is being found. This laptop is less than 2 months old so I really don't think it's a hardware problem, and I haven't downloaded anything recently that may have messed this up. I would contact Lenovo but I'm unsure if this is an issue with the laptop, or Windows 8.
