View 1 RepliesI got a laptop inspirion 6000. I tried to start it after a long time keep getting
"loading pbr 2 ... done
a disk read error occurred
press ctrl+alt+del to restart"
When re-start just keeps saying same thing all the time only load to 3/4 of blue band...
last night, I got on my desktop momentaily. Closed the laptop lid(laptop is still on) and placed the keyboard on top of the laptop so I can open the Linux gFTP program, connect to my sites FTP and run a full backup before I went to bed. No problem.
Slept about 8 hours, woke up. Opened the laptop LID to check email and forums, and I'm greeted with a BSOD. Great. Laptop is extremely warm too. So I soft shut down (holding the power button down) and the computer reboots itself.
Well, it takes a little while for the PC to boot, then I'm greeted with a.

A disk read error occured

I guess this is the prime time to go ahead and upgrade that small 60Gb harddrive,
I cannot log in on my hp pavilion dv6 notebook pc, it is giving me: A disk read error occurred; Press ctrl-alt-delete to restart,!prompt.
View 3 Replies View RelatedThere's a "disk read error occured" when I startup and it won't boot into windows at all. I did a hard disk test in BIOS and the Short DST failed and the failure id is GTU23F-5QF788-XD6V5F-60UR0 for Hard Disk 1. I know there's an 80 SSD and 750 HD but which one failed?
If the ssd failed can I use the 750gb HD or does it need both?
If I do need to replace the SSD can I replace it with a regular HD (on a budget) and what size drive do I need? 2.5?
I am using dell inspiron N5050 iam having problem with it , its showing status :0xc000000f
Info: an error occurred while attempting to read the boot configuration data.
I was reformatting my iPod the other day and I left the house to go run some errands and when I got back I was greeted with the BSOD. So I just restarted my computer like always when suddenly I was greeted with this:
PBR 2... done
A disk read error has occurred
Press Ctrl + Alt + Del to restart
So I pressed Ctrl + Alt + Del and got the same message. About 5 times later I was able to run some sort of diagnostics and it was showing something with my HDD. So I tore my computer apart and put everything back in just to see if that would work and I'm still getting the same.
Am I just screwed out of my 20GB of music and all those programs that I had on my computer or is there some sort of fix to be able to recover the data? And will I just have to cave and get a new HDD?
I just bought the Probook 4710s 5 days ago, and some times when I try to start the computer, it just wrights on the screen Non system disk or disk error, please replace and press any key... I don't have any CD or DVD in CD/DVD unit or any USB keys... when I try to scan the hard disk it reports to me No hard disk found. Every now and than it starts Windows normaly, but it keeps repeating frequently the same boot problem and not beeing able to start my comp.
Does it mean that the hard disk is bad or broken, or it will be soon...or what? Should I return the laptop and ask for replacement?
My battery (FRU: 42t4957) is stuck at 2% and refuses to charge:
I kept it at 40-50% most of the time by changing battery threshold. Total cycle count was about 80 (84 now) first use date 2013-03.
On Saturday I tried to run a "discharge-charge-discharge-charge" cycle (by watching some movies) to reset the gauge of my battery. During 2nd discharge my laptop hibernated due to low charge much earlier than expected, when I turned it on it showed that the max capacity is 28 Wh and the battery is in the "poor" condition.
I tried to perform automatic gauge reset but didn't get much (29 Wh). I updated power manager and performed another automatic reset which failed too.
So I tried to make a manual reset and left my laptop paying a movie for a night. On Monday I plugged my AC adapter in but found out that the battery won't charge: "a battery error has occurred the battery cannot be charged".
I cleared residual capacitance by pushing the power button several times and reset the BIOS to defaults but got nothing.
If this problem can't be sold I would like to know the reason of it to avoid such things in the future. While googling this forum I met contradictory opinions on battery reset: ones say that it's extremely harmful because battery "doesn't like" to be discharged to 0%, others say its harmless.
Just received 2 new X220 thinkpads - I'm attempting to burn factory recovery disks on a lenovo USB multifunction cd/dvd drive.
I receive the 'error unexpected error occurred (rc=9)' when attempting to burn the disks - I came across another forum suggesting that the first disk is a CD and the rest should be DVD - This worked to burn the recovery media - however when I inserted a DVD to continue the rest of the recovery media I receive the aforementioned error.
I have gotten 1 of them to complete a full set of disks - 4 in total. The other one, no such luck.
On my HP Pavilion the Recovery disk creator kicks out disk 1 (it says it will make 3) with an error note. If I stick another disk in it starts all over.My DVD+R disk is a 4.7 GB. Could it be only one disk was needed?

View 7 Replies View RelatedI have three user profiles in my Compaq Presario CQ-42, one is administrator and others are "Other User". When I fisrt saw the synaptics touch pad settings window through my first "Other User" profile 1, in Mouse Properties->Device Settings->Synaptics LuxPad V7.4->Settings, all the options in this window were available for selection and no one was diabled. Now when I go to "Administrator" Profile, Some of the options in this settings window are disabled and appear to be partly hidden. Like the option "Enable Pinch Zoom in Pinch Zoom section" and "Enable Pivot Rotate in Rotating" appears to be hidden/disabled.
For verifying this, I created the another "Other user" profile 2 but no success and I found the same problem here also. I also tried to unistall the synaptics driver several times from all the profiles but every time I re-installed them and checked to get the same result. The settings were only accessible for "Other User" Profile 1 each time and were disable for Administrator profile and "Other User" Profile 2. I can produce the snaps of same if required.
i have a compaq presario CQ42 . today i has disassembling my laptop and applying thermal paste on cpu and gpu . so , the problem is when i play games about 5min or 10min my laptop suddenly go on sleep and shutdown itself then i try to restart it and after that i get this message"The system bios has detected your notebook PC was placed in hibernation to avoid overheating .The system is now operating normally and your data should remain intact. Overheating may occur if the cooling vents are blocked or the operating temperature exceed the specification. The notebook PC should return to normal operation once the situation is resolved.

Then at re-boot I accessed the boot menu and ran a PSA Diagnostic and received the following error code while scanning the processor memory:

I have installation disks as follows:

My laptop model is HP Elite Book 8400p.I can't boot the system. In system diagnostics, it gives start up test, run in test, hard disk test as failure...Reason shown is "Test(quick).....Error:Read failure Error:Read failure".. How can I solve this?
View 5 Replies View RelatedMy T500 was slammed very hard one day, once I reboot, it worked for half hour and gave up. I tested it via BIOS, it gave me error code 0000 read verification failed.
I presumed the HD is dead, inserted a healthy one inside and works fine for a couple of hours and gave up again, tested through BIOS gave me the same error code.
I have a Dell N5050 which has the following erros on it:
Targeted Read Test, Error Alert Icon Failed,Critical Alert and SMART Short Self Test,Error Alert Icon Failed,Critical Alert.
What i can do to sort this problem out?
I have been trying to burn some dvd's and I am having so/so luck. I get a burn on the dvd itself and it will play on my laptop, but for some reason when I put it in a normal DVD Player it does not read. In fact the player will say error on disk.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have this problem. I had the x64 version of Vista running on my Macbook Pro and I just started to hate all the stuttering because of the wireless driver (which nobody can resolve), so I decided to put back my good-old trusty XP Pro 32bit. (I still have that CD all dusted somewhere around here).
So I wiped my Boot Camp partition, made another one (with the Assistant), and put in the XP CD, the computer restarted, it loaded up Windows Setup, copied all the files (in text mode) and then when the computer restarts and boots off the new partition, I get the:
"Disk Boot Error,
Press any key to restart..."
And of course the system freezes. I have to hold down the power button and shut down my Mac.
Now as far as I can figure this out, I think something messed with my mbr or something, because this only happens with the XP disc. Vista would want to install just fine and dandy.............
My HP 2000 is currently saying that a SMART hard disk check has detected an imminent failure.
Upon running hardware diagnostics I was given a failure ID of: 6CX1VS-70P7AE-MFGJWK-60BA03
My Product ID is: E0M17UA#ABA
I am wondering what my options are. My PC is still under warranty and I would prefer to not lose the data I have on this hard-drive.
I own a HP Pavilion DV6-6160ev. Although I run the Hard Disk Test and all three tests (SMART Check, Short DST and Long DST) pass, the Hard Disk Error screen keeps coming up.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI just borrowed my laptop to a friend and he said when he tried to boot it up he go this message.
The message I get when restarting is non-system disk or disk error, press a key to continue over and over.
When I click f10 before boot up there is a harddisk test option, where it says Hard Disk test failed, no disk installed.
So is it either the harddisk or the motherboard thats a problem? AFAIK nothing new was installed leading up to this. The computer is no longer under warranty.
how to troubleshoot the Hard Disk (3F0) error message.
3F0 can be caused by 3 things
1. Bad hard drive or partition structure, erase the entire hard drive then use HP recovery discs to attempt reinstall of the OS and all partitions.
2. Bad hard drive data cable that connects it to the motherboard, replace the cable
3. Bad sata controller on the motherboard replaces the motherboard or laptop.
Now, the first step, is to test the Hard Drive out in the BIOS if you can get into it.
You will need to boot up the notebook and press F10. If you can get into the BIOS you will need to run the self-test. Here is a document showing you how to run the test. If you can't get into the BIOS I would suggest removing the HDD and then try getting into the BIOS again. Once you remove the HDD boot the notebook up again and press F10. If you can get into the BIOS, then the HDD is bad.
Here is a video showing you how to remove the HDD:
I have a disk error on my XPS15Z. I ran a diagnostic and got:
Error code 2000-0142
Validation 534
Msg: Hard Drive 0 - S/N WD-WX11EC1F3775, self test unsuccessful. Status = 79
Do I have to replace my hard drive and if so, can I send it to get replaced? I am still under warranty.
I am trying to fix my GF laptop model STUDIO 1535. This laptop is two years old or so. It was showing randomly blue screens on win xp sp3, so I checked forums and recommended to do a cleaning. I opened the lid, cleaned the fan ( it had a big ball of fur that prevented the fan to move) and cleaned the rest of the mb with the vacuum cleaner. Now it doesn't work anymore. I tried to disconnect and connect the HD but still the same error. I ran the diagnostic and gave me this error 2000-0141.
Should I change the mb, the hd, the hd connector?
