I was reformatting my iPod the other day and I left the house to go run some errands and when I got back I was greeted with the BSOD. So I just restarted my computer like always when suddenly I was greeted with this:
PBR 2... done
A disk read error has occurred Press Ctrl + Alt + Del to restart
So I pressed Ctrl + Alt + Del and got the same message. About 5 times later I was able to run some sort of diagnostics and it was showing something with my HDD. So I tore my computer apart and put everything back in just to see if that would work and I'm still getting the same.
Am I just screwed out of my 20GB of music and all those programs that I had on my computer or is there some sort of fix to be able to recover the data? And will I just have to cave and get a new HDD?
last night, I got on my desktop momentaily. Closed the laptop lid(laptop is still on) and placed the keyboard on top of the laptop so I can open the Linux gFTP program, connect to my sites FTP and run a full backup before I went to bed. No problem.
Slept about 8 hours, woke up. Opened the laptop LID to check email and forums, and I'm greeted with a BSOD. Great. Laptop is extremely warm too. So I soft shut down (holding the power button down) and the computer reboots itself.
Well, it takes a little while for the PC to boot, then I'm greeted with a.
Loading PBR 2....Done . . A disk read error occured Press Alt Ctrl Del to restart
I guess this is the prime time to go ahead and upgrade that small 60Gb harddrive,
My HP Pavillion g6-2249wm notebook has crashed twice in 2 weeks. When it came back from being recovered it had nothing in it but windows 8 (I upgraeted to 8.1) It won't restart right. It also won't show PDFs that are on audio disc now do i need to ownload something? Also it blocks almost all clicks on links how do i stop this.
There's a "disk read error occured" when I startup and it won't boot into windows at all. I did a hard disk test in BIOS and the Short DST failed and the failure id is GTU23F-5QF788-XD6V5F-60UR0 for Hard Disk 1. I know there's an 80 SSD and 750 HD but which one failed?
If the ssd failed can I use the 750gb HD or does it need both?
If I do need to replace the SSD can I replace it with a regular HD (on a budget) and what size drive do I need? 2.5?
On Vista, if I want to scan something I simply go to Windows Fax & Scan, and literally press select the scan i want and press scan.
Can OSX Leopard do this? Cheers
Today's the day I was planning to go to Apple.com and buy a new Macbook pro, and i'm having a few small worries. The cost, the fact that it's my first Mac ever, what if I hate it despite enjoying it when I went to the store to check one out for real etc....
Both Targeted Read Test and SMART Short Self Test scan failed during a couple of runs.
Error while reading sector 680448279. The test found 1 sector errors. Failed (Error code: WHD20-P8U)
The device reported the following status: The previous self-test completed having the read element of the test failed. The first failing LBA value is 680448279 and the failure occurred after the device had been operating for 7990 power-on hours.
I have an Inspiron 1525 with windows 7. I use system mechanic 11.7 for PC clean up. Every time I started the computer I was getting multiple hard drive errors and had to run deep clean followed by scan check. I thought I had a faulty hard drive so I bought a new one and completely reloaded my OS.
This kept erroring so when I ran this test I had ;
Disabled Wired LAN Turned on Wireless Confirmed that I can access Internet Turned off Firewall Product : W520 4282CTO Bios : 8BET62WW (1.42) All drivers are latest and windows up to date. I am using Windows 8.1
How to get rid of this error. This has been occurring for a few months now.
I just bought the Probook 4710s 5 days ago, and some times when I try to start the computer, it just wrights on the screen Non system disk or disk error, please replace and press any key... I don't have any CD or DVD in CD/DVD unit or any USB keys... when I try to scan the hard disk it reports to me No hard disk found. Every now and than it starts Windows normaly, but it keeps repeating frequently the same boot problem and not beeing able to start my comp.
Does it mean that the hard disk is bad or broken, or it will be soon...or what? Should I return the laptop and ask for replacement?

Dell XPS M1710. Phillips SDVD8820 DVD/CD RW Drive. Shows up in hardware manager, but all of a sudden, after writing a few discs in the morning, the drive just stopped being able to either read or write a CD.
I've tried reading both commercial audio CDs as well as audio CDs I've written on the system, and it just behaves as if there is no CD in the drive. Using iTunes, WMP, Media Monkey, and Nero 9...
When I stick a DVD in the drive and let Nero 9 check the drive out, it recognizes what type of drive it is, etc. But if I ask any of those apps to read or play a CD, they all say no CD is in the drive..
I am so tired of receiving Low Disk Space on recovery (D). I have done everything it asked. Empty Recycle Bin which is EMPTY. I am not a computer wizard but it seems unfair that I have pay over $150.00 year to correct this problem once a year. I have checked a lot of places and it just keeps telling me the same thing. That doesn't work.
I have a Studio XPS 1640 with Blu-ray drive. As I don't have any Blu-ray movie disc with me at the moment, I tried putting several PS3 BD game discs into my 1640's blu-ray drive, but none of them can be read by the drive (when I try to explore the drive with Explorer/My Computer).
So I'm wondering whether:
a. My blu-ray drive is broken; or b. This is normal. Blu-ray cannot be read within Windows Explorer like DVD. c. Has something to do with region locking?
