View 3 Replieslast night, I got on my desktop momentaily. Closed the laptop lid(laptop is still on) and placed the keyboard on top of the laptop so I can open the Linux gFTP program, connect to my sites FTP and run a full backup before I went to bed. No problem.
Slept about 8 hours, woke up. Opened the laptop LID to check email and forums, and I'm greeted with a BSOD. Great. Laptop is extremely warm too. So I soft shut down (holding the power button down) and the computer reboots itself.
Well, it takes a little while for the PC to boot, then I'm greeted with a.
Loading PBR 2....Done
.
.
A disk read error occured
Press Alt Ctrl Del to restart
I guess this is the prime time to go ahead and upgrade that small 60Gb harddrive,
I got a laptop inspirion 6000. I tried to start it after a long time keep getting
"loading pbr 2 ... done
a disk read error occurred
press ctrl+alt+del to restart"
When re-start just keeps saying same thing all the time only load to 3/4 of blue band...
I use hp compaq cq42...suddenly I on my laptop then the laptop say a disk read error occurred
View 1 Replies View RelatedThere's a "disk read error occured" when I startup and it won't boot into windows at all. I did a hard disk test in BIOS and the Short DST failed and the failure id is GTU23F-5QF788-XD6V5F-60UR0 for Hard Disk 1. I know there's an 80 SSD and 750 HD but which one failed?
If the ssd failed can I use the 750gb HD or does it need both?
If I do need to replace the SSD can I replace it with a regular HD (on a budget) and what size drive do I need? 2.5?
I am using dell inspiron N5050 iam having problem with it , its showing status :0xc000000f
Info: an error occurred while attempting to read the boot configuration data.
I was reformatting my iPod the other day and I left the house to go run some errands and when I got back I was greeted with the BSOD. So I just restarted my computer like always when suddenly I was greeted with this:
PBR 2... done
A disk read error has occurred
Press Ctrl + Alt + Del to restart
So I pressed Ctrl + Alt + Del and got the same message. About 5 times later I was able to run some sort of diagnostics and it was showing something with my HDD. So I tore my computer apart and put everything back in just to see if that would work and I'm still getting the same.
Am I just screwed out of my 20GB of music and all those programs that I had on my computer or is there some sort of fix to be able to recover the data? And will I just have to cave and get a new HDD?
I am so tired of receiving Low Disk Space on recovery (D). I have done everything it asked. Empty Recycle Bin which is EMPTY. I am not a computer wizard but it seems unfair that I have pay over $150.00 year to correct this problem once a year. I have checked a lot of places and it just keeps telling me the same thing. That doesn't work.
I did just install a HP wireless printer 3052A
HP Pavilion dv6000
Windows Vista (home version)

View 10 Replies View RelatedI have an HP Pavilion dv6000 and run Windows Visa Home Edition.I wanted to restore my laptop to its factory settings but the Recovery Manager wouldn't work. When I clicked on it it would just restart the computer without anything else happening. I then right clicked on the computer >manage> disk manager and made the recovery partition active. When I rebooted the computer it began showing:Bootmgr is missingPress Ctrl+Alt+DeleteWhich of course leads back to the same message after te computer reboots. I can't access F8 key. Only F10 (Bios) works. I don't have a recovery or installation CD as it didn't come with the laptop when I purchased it.Is there anyway I can change the active partition back to the C drive, this disabling the recovery partition? I read that it was possible to access disk manager from cmd prompt window, but I don't know how to access it since the F8 key won't work (makes just a bipping noise when pressed)?I am also out of the country so can't mail my laptop to HP to have it fixed.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI performed a system recovery to factory settings that resulted in my Disk space being distributed differently than before. I have a lot of unallocated space as you can see bellow. I need to know how to fix and how to prevent this from happening the next time I perform a recovery. Also, is it normal for the RECOVERY (D) partition to show multiple times in Disk Management ?

3) :ESP FAT32 300MB GPT (EFI System Partition)

Disk 2 (GPT) File System: Used: Type:
1)Unallocated: 1MB GPT
2) :Other 7.46GB GPT (Unused Partition)

1) How can I find or get to the Recovery Partition?
2) If not possible, can I reinstall Windows from scratch and remove all those partitions, or what becomes of them?
I'm not sure how Acer or Windows handles the Main 500GB HD and the 24GB SSD when a reinstall is done.
Is that a link because when i copied and pasted to the search on the forum, nothing came up.. What is the exact link.....

View 2 Replies View RelatedMy battery (FRU: 42t4957) is stuck at 2% and refuses to charge:
I kept it at 40-50% most of the time by changing battery threshold. Total cycle count was about 80 (84 now) first use date 2013-03.
On Saturday I tried to run a "discharge-charge-discharge-charge" cycle (by watching some movies) to reset the gauge of my battery. During 2nd discharge my laptop hibernated due to low charge much earlier than expected, when I turned it on it showed that the max capacity is 28 Wh and the battery is in the "poor" condition.
I tried to perform automatic gauge reset but didn't get much (29 Wh). I updated power manager and performed another automatic reset which failed too.
So I tried to make a manual reset and left my laptop paying a movie for a night. On Monday I plugged my AC adapter in but found out that the battery won't charge: "a battery error has occurred the battery cannot be charged".
I cleared residual capacitance by pushing the power button several times and reset the BIOS to defaults but got nothing.
If this problem can't be sold I would like to know the reason of it to avoid such things in the future. While googling this forum I met contradictory opinions on battery reset: ones say that it's extremely harmful because battery "doesn't like" to be discharged to 0%, others say its harmless.
Just received 2 new X220 thinkpads - I'm attempting to burn factory recovery disks on a lenovo USB multifunction cd/dvd drive.
I receive the 'error unexpected error occurred (rc=9)' when attempting to burn the disks - I came across another forum suggesting that the first disk is a CD and the rest should be DVD - This worked to burn the recovery media - however when I inserted a DVD to continue the rest of the recovery media I receive the aforementioned error.
I have gotten 1 of them to complete a full set of disks - 4 in total. The other one, no such luck.
I reinstalled windows 7 home premium on my machine, using the same serial number as the one that came with the laptop (I found the serial number by downloading some software that scanned my computer and told me what it was). After installing windows, it told me that it was not genuine. I imagine that it is because it wasn't a version of Windows that has all that HP software pre-loaded on it. My hard drive still has a "recovery" partition, but what to do with that, or even if I can do anything with it anymore. So how can I make my Windows 7 home premium genuine? Do I have to reinstall another version of windows 7 home premium with the HP software included? Where do I find such download? Since I don't have a recovery disk, can I use that "recovery" partition of my hard drive for something?

Would like to wipe the dirve and start over, but need a VISTA recovery disk for the machine. The D: partition where the backup files from HP resides was removed from the drive so Recovery manager is not an option. Checked the HP support site and there are not recovery disks available for HP for this model laptop with VISTA, at least when I entered all the information on the site it did not list anything.
Is there anything that can be done by copying the correct files from the WINDOWS directory on the C drive.

View 2 Replies View RelatedFew days ago, my laptop wasn't running well. I made a hard reset - remove everything and reinstall windows by using HP Support Assistant. It was done but when laptop reboot, a install windows message showed:
"The computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error. Windows installation cannot proceed. To install Windows, click "OK" to restart the computer, and then restart the installation."
So I press enter many times but it was that message. I have no time to waste. I use HP Pavilion Sleekbook 14-b013nr.
