HP Pavilion Dm4 OS/Software :: Will Recovery Disk Work With New Hard Drive
Jul 22, 2014
I have an HP Pavillion dm4. My hard drive died so I installed a new hard drive. The original OS installed on the computer was Windows 7. I did not get a Windows 7 disk with the computer. If I order the Windows 7 recovery disk from HP, will it install Windows 7 on my new hard drive? I have the COA info.

I have a HP 15 Notebook PC with no dvd drive recently I was sent the system recovery cds from HP. I dont have an external dvd drive. What i do have is a Toshiba Satelight laptop with Widows 7 and a good dvd drive. Also I have a 500 GB external hard drive. I was thinking maybe I could copy the disks onto the external harddrive with the Toshiba dvd drive. Then attach the external hard drive to my HP 15 Notebook by usb port and install Hp recovey disks from the external hard drive.

I have an HP laptop (pavilion dv7-1245dx) and the hard drive died. I had never gotten around to burning my recovery discs, so I ordered new ones from HP. When I installed the new hard drive and popped in the operating system recovery disc, it gave me the error message:
"This PC is not supported by the System Recovery Discs. You will not be able to continue to recover this system with these discs."
Error code: 0100-30FC-3602-3603
The original hard drive was a Hitachi, 320 GB SATA
The new hard drive is a WD 500 GB SATA

The hard drive on my Pavilion 4070-us crashed, so I bought a replacement drive - a Samsung SSD 850 EVO, 256GB. The problem is that I can't seem to get the recovery discs to work, and neither Microsoft or HP support me. Microsoft of course tells me that they won't support for OEM versions of Windows 7, and HP said that my product has been discontinued. I own a legal copy of Windows 7....
What happens after I go through the installation process with the recovery discs is that instead of the Windows installation continuing like it's supposed to, I get "No bootable device -- insert boot disk and press any key". I'm desperate, I tried two different options - one was the minimal image recovery, the other one was a factory restore. Nothing seems to work. What can I do? By the way, the original hard drive is not *completely* dead - I can still access most of the data on it.

I am so tired of receiving Low Disk Space on recovery (D). I have done everything it asked. Empty Recycle Bin which is EMPTY. I am not a computer wizard but it seems unfair that I have pay over $150.00 year to correct this problem once a year. I have checked a lot of places and it just keeps telling me the same thing. That doesn't work.
I did just install a HP wireless printer 3052A
HP Pavilion dv6000

HP Pavilion Dv5-2077cl Entertainment NotebookProduct #: WQ799UA#ABAWindows 7 64-bit
I have been getting a random blue screen popping up every once and a while, that will "dump my physical memory" or something and then reboot itself after like 30 seconds. my hard drive was the reason for these constant errors. So I backed everything up, in preparation of a real crash. I am in the process of ordering a new hard drive from Newegg.com, and I would like to know if it is hard to replace a hard drive in a notebook, or if I should have Geek Squad do it for $50. Also, I dont think I have the Operating system disc that came with my computer, so how do I order that from HP and how much is it?And last but not least, Is there a post or video with instructions on how to install a hard drive and the operating system?

I have an HP Pavilion g6-1d21dx Notebook PC that was originally installed with Windows 7 Home Premium. However, the hard drive started acting funny, so an SSD was put in its place and Windows 8 was installed on it. However, now I want to go back to Windows 7 Home Premium. However, I heard that since the hardware configuration of the computer was changed (via the hard drive), the OEM key (which I still have), wouldn't take. Will it work or will it not?

I need to replace the hard drive on a Pavillion G6. Unfortunately we do not have recovery discs. Is there a way to reinstall Windows 7 without having to buy the operating system?

I have a Pavilion DV6-2140EI notebook with a failed hard drive. I purchased a new hard drive but to my surprise, all recovery disks or system image files are useless without the recovery partition on the drive. It appears that HP and Microsoft teamed up to not support hard drive failure. As you no longer get the original operating system on disk anymore, it looks like one is forced to purchase Windows again after hard drive failure.

Bought 5530 in August but already need to run recovery disks as the photo gallery constantly crashes and using restore to an earlier date does not work. I burnt two DVD's when I got it and they looked OK. However after changing start up in BIOS to dvd drive then restarting holding down f8, when pressing the complete restore tab nothing happens except a message saying no restore dvd or HD can be found. Cannot think what to try as the disks and dvd drive appear fine. I wish they included the disks with machine like sony do then you would be 100% sure it is not the disks at fault. Anyone else encounter this? I am sure the problem with the photo gallery is not a virus as I do not use the machine on the internet

I have an HP Pavilion dv6000 and run Windows Visa Home Edition.I wanted to restore my laptop to its factory settings but the Recovery Manager wouldn't work. When I clicked on it it would just restart the computer without anything else happening. I then right clicked on the computer >manage> disk manager and made the recovery partition active. When I rebooted the computer it began showing:Bootmgr is missingPress Ctrl+Alt+DeleteWhich of course leads back to the same message after te computer reboots. I can't access F8 key. Only F10 (Bios) works. I don't have a recovery or installation CD as it didn't come with the laptop when I purchased it.Is there anyway I can change the active partition back to the C drive, this disabling the recovery partition? I read that it was possible to access disk manager from cmd prompt window, but I don't know how to access it since the F8 key won't work (makes just a bipping noise when pressed)?I am also out of the country so can't mail my laptop to HP to have it fixed.

I have a Dell Vostro 3300. Windows 7 OS. Hard drive went out. Replaced hard drive. Reinstalled Windows 7. Used backup system disk that I made with Recovery Manager back in December 2012. It looked like it was working properly, but after using all backup disks, got message image could not be applied. Started over, reinstalled Windows 7. Put in #1 backup system disk. When drop down box is displayed asking which backup to use, I choose 12-29-2012 like I did before. Nothing happens. It just sits there. Next button can not be used (it is greyed out).

I performed a system recovery to factory settings that resulted in my Disk space being distributed differently than before. I have a lot of unallocated space as you can see bellow. I need to know how to fix and how to prevent this from happening the next time I perform a recovery. Also, is it normal for the RECOVERY (D) partition to show multiple times in Disk Management ?

The hard drive on HP G62t-350 CTO Notebook was failing. I was able to create a recovery USB in the Recovery Manager. I installed a new 120 GB SSD. The original hard drive was larger, can't remember now but 250 or 500 GB. I know the Recovering the System after the Hard Drive is Replaced (Windows 7) says "To avoid problems, install a hard drive as large or larger than the replaced hard drive," but that's a question for later.
Computer booted fine from USB (in fact, is set to boot from USB if present by default). Recovery Manager starts. I choose minimal install. It goes through the process of partitioning the SSD and copying files. Then says to remove external media and reboot, computer will reboot several times during the process, blah, blah, blah. I pull out the USB and reboot, but after POST I get "No bootable media present".
If I try to reboot leaving the USB in, it boots to USB and we're back at the beginning. I am able to confirm with a rescue disk that the SSD has one NTFS partition that has had Windows files copied to it, and a large amount of unallocated space. (Something like 60%/40%.)
How do I make the hard drive bootable, and if it were bootable, would the recovery process complete? What's going on with the partitions? Is it creating the recovery partition first, and then after boot the recovery partition installs the OS? If so, I might have to abandon this process because since I'm moving to smaller storage, I don't want to devote half of the drive to a recovery partition.

I recently purchased a Dell Inspiron 15 that came with the partitioned data recovery feature. I immediately created 2 recovery disks. Yesterday, I sectioned my active hard drive so that I could have, in effect, 2 hard drives. The newly partitionedsection of the hard drive is naturally blank and I would like to install my data recovery or disk recovery information on it.

I just got an Intel X18-M G1 80 gb ssd with a 2.5" enclosure to upgrade the HDD in my Acer 1410.
I opened the back panel, removed the 2 screws, then removed plastic piece holding down the gold connector, and pulled the plastic tape to get the hard drive out.
Problem now is, how do I remove the old hard drive from the chasis? I've upgraded laptop drives before and usually just there is a SATA connector. But here the SATA connector seems to be connected to a chasis/circuit board. There are several 6 point star shaped screws, including some covered by a piece of black plastic.

Unfortunately the internal keyboard and mouse on my MBP seem to have packed up for good. Fortunately, I can still use a USB keyboard and mouse.
Is there any way I can copy the entire contents of the hard disk onto an external USB hard disk (everything so that I don't lose desktop icons, filing structure e.t.c.) and then restore it when I get a new machine?

Dell Inspiron 15Z model 5523 laptop less than 2 years old. Locked up during a Windows update. Refreshed it and lost all my programs. Downloaded Firefox accidentally from a bad site and it was bundled with malware. So I refreshed the laptop again. Had everything working and then later that day it just quit. Locked up and when I rebooted, it said no hard drive could be found. I have a new hard drive, but how do I get my Windows 8 (paid for with the computer) and a boot disk from Dell?

My laptop suddenly hanged. When I pressed Ctrl + Alt + Del, the menu did not come on. When I repeated, it did not shut down. I manually shut down the laptop. When I restarted, it said cannot find hard disk drive and no bootable devices.
Someone checked it out and they say the drive has crashed. Is it possible the links are loose? Is it possible to recover data from drive?

Recently I began having problems upon starting up my HP Pavilion g6 series laptop. I would get a disc error that would require me to restart with "control, alt, delete." It has now gone to giving me Hard Disk errors 303 and 305. I've been looking around on these forums and it appears that I'm looking at a harddrive getting ready to fail.
I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium with an Intel i7-2620M CPU @ 2.70GHz with 6GB of RAM and it's a 64 bit operating system.
Am I correct in assuming that the hard drive is getting ready to fail? If so, how do I replace it and what do I replace it with?
