i just bought my hp hdx 16 yesterday the main reason i choosed hdx 16 over dv6 is the second hard drive option(as said in the maintenance manual) now i opened the back and no place for my second hard drive
I have a HP 15 Notebook PC with no dvd drive recently I was sent the system recovery cds from HP. I dont have an external dvd drive. What i do have is a Toshiba Satelight laptop with Widows 7 and a good dvd drive. Also I have a 500 GB external hard drive. I was thinking maybe I could copy the disks onto the external harddrive with the Toshiba dvd drive. Then attach the external hard drive to my HP 15 Notebook by usb port and install Hp recovey disks from the external hard drive.
How do you order i7 920 processors ? It doesn't give me such option on the website (all it shows in processor option is "Mobile Precision M6500 Silver Base")
so I called dell sales team to find out which processor is there, and on the website it shows "Up to Intelģ CoreTM i7- 920XM Quad Core Extreme processors" so i thought it might be as the only option and goes as standard),
they told me that m6500 is only available with i7 820 (1.73hz) and the machine is upgradable to i7 920. heh ? seems like scam
Meantime I can't choose 2 HDD with 500GB, as primary only ATA and secondary is only SATA.
The problem Im currently having with my laptop is that every time i turn it on, it last about 4 seconds before it shuts down. I can only see the power and battery light on before shutting down. I dont even see the screen turning on. I try going to diagnostic mode and the only thing that changes is that my keyboard lights go on, but then after 4 seconds laptop shuts down. What to do or what might be causing this??
Looking at the dell site, it's pretty clear that I can put a second hard drive in both the vostro and the precision. However, I can't see that option for the Latitude. Am I missing something? The latitude, being right between the other two, is the best fit .....
I'm trying to understand the options available for a secondary hard drive on the Precision M4400. When configuring a new M4400, a 'Second Hard Drive' option is shown, but the only options are either a 120GB 5400rpm HD 'E-Module' or 64GB SSD 'E-Module'. It also says the following: Quote:
"Modular secondary storage devices can be used in both the system as well as in an External E-Modular Bay. They do not come with an external E-Modular Bay".
Here are my questions: 1) What does the 'E-Module' after the 120GB HD and 64GB SSD mean? 2) What is the Exterenal E-Modular Bay mentioned? A docking station or similar? 3) Could these options also apply to a Latitude E6500, although not offered directly from Dell?
I just started a DELL Precision M6700 for the first time. I also got some yellow paper with it with some "important information - 512e Hard Drive". I thoroughly read all info stated there and followed all the web-links. Finally I came to conclusion that I do have 512e Hard Drive. It is partitioned in 3 partitions and one (first) partition is "Misaligned". Hereby I also post a screenshot of the output of the Dell Advanced Format HDD Detection Tool and some basic info about my system.
Do I need to align this partition before proceeding further with using this laptop? What would be the consequence of leaving the hard drive in this state? How can I align this partition?
Dell Inspiron 15Z model 5523 laptop less than 2 years old.  Locked up during a Windows update.  Refreshed it and lost all my programs.  Downloaded Firefox accidentally from a bad site and it was bundled with malware.  So I refreshed the laptop again.  Had everything working and then later that day it just quit.  Locked up and when I rebooted, it said no hard drive could be found.  I have a new hard drive, but how do I get my Windows 8 (paid for with the computer) and a boot disk from Dell?
My laptop suddenly hanged. When I pressed Ctrl + Alt + Del, the menu did not come on. When I repeated, it did not shut down. I manually shut down the laptop. When I restarted, it said cannot find hard disk drive and no bootable devices.
Someone checked it out and they say the drive has crashed. Is it possible the links are loose? Is it possible to recover data from drive?
internal hard drive disk not found; no bootable devices; start up repair finds no solution..... I have reseated the hard drive several times. the computer runs extremely slow. Dell Data Safe had recommended replacing the hard drive ''couple of months" ago.
Just purchased an Inspiron 15 laptop with Windows 8.  I removed the hard disk drive from our old Inspiron 6000, installed it in an enclosure, and hooked it to the new laptop to be able to access the document files.  (The hdd from the old computer is a Western Digital 250 GB and was newly installed six months ago).
When I plug in the enclosure, the power light comes on and it shows up on the new laptop as local disk E.  When I click on disk E and go to documents, the only documents shown are three that are saved on the new laptop, and none of the hundreds of documents saved on the hdd from the old computer.  What I can do?
I just got an Intel X18-M G1 80 gb ssd with a 2.5" enclosure to upgrade the HDD in my Acer 1410.
I opened the back panel, removed the 2 screws, then removed plastic piece holding down the gold connector, and pulled the plastic tape to get the hard drive out.
Problem now is, how do I remove the old hard drive from the chasis? I've upgraded laptop drives before and usually just there is a SATA connector. But here the SATA connector seems to be connected to a chasis/circuit board. There are several 6 point star shaped screws, including some covered by a piece of black plastic.
Unfortunately the internal keyboard and mouse on my MBP seem to have packed up for good. Fortunately, I can still use a USB keyboard and mouse.
Is there any way I can copy the entire contents of the hard disk onto an external USB hard disk (everything so that I don't lose desktop icons, filing structure e.t.c.) and then restore it when I get a new machine?
I have an HP Pavillion dm4. My hard drive died so I installed a new hard drive. The original OS installed on the computer was Windows 7. I did not get a Windows 7 disk with the computer. If I order the Windows 7 recovery disk from HP, will it install Windows 7 on my new hard drive? I have the COA info.
I have a Inspiron M5040 (mid 2011)  I ran a system test and was informed that there was a drive critical error with a hard drive ST95032 5AS SATA Disk Device FAILED... What does that mean, is it fixable and how much?
There's a "disk read error occured" when I startup and it won't boot into windows at all. I did a hard disk test in BIOS and the Short DST failed and the failure id is GTU23F-5QF788-XD6V5F-60UR0 for Hard Disk 1. I know there's an 80 SSD and 750 HD but which one failed?   If the ssd failed can I use the 750gb HD or does it need both?   If I do need to replace the SSD can I replace it with a regular HD (on a budget) and what size drive do I need? 2.5?
I just received my T530 (2359CTO) and need to encrypt the hard drive. When I purchased it, I opted (among other reasons) for Windows 8 Professional because it comes with BitLocker. I then discovered that some ThinkPads have hard drives that support hardware encryption (FDE).   I've tried to figure out whether mine has this feature, but haven't had any luck. The BIOS gives me the option to set a hard drive password, but I'm not positive that it actually encrypts the hard drive with this setting.
a) how to figure out if my hard drive supports hardware encryption b) how to enable it
I have a problem I've never had with any stationary computer (I have never had a dual hard drive laptop before...):
I have one 320 meg drive which I use as little as possible in drive bay one and another, larger drive in drive bay two.
An expensive program I use for work is registered to the drive in bay one, and I can't get a new license, so I would like it to last as long as possible, which is why I only use it there as a kind of dongle.
For the software licensing stuff to work it has to be seen as the first drive by Windows, but not necessarily the one I boot from
