Dell :: Second Hard Drive In Latitude (not Vostro Or Precision)

Mar 16, 2009

Looking at the dell site, it's pretty clear that I can put a second hard drive in both the vostro and the precision. However, I can't see that option for the Latitude. Am I missing something? The latitude, being right between the other two, is the best fit .....

Dell :: Precision M4400- 2nd Hard Drive Option, E-Modular Bay

Feb 5, 2009

I'm trying to understand the options available for a secondary hard drive on the Precision M4400. When configuring a new M4400, a 'Second Hard Drive' option is shown, but the only options are either a 120GB 5400rpm HD 'E-Module' or 64GB SSD 'E-Module'. It also says the following:
Quote:

"Modular secondary storage devices can be used in both the system as well as in an External E-Modular Bay. They do not come with an external E-Modular Bay".

Here are my questions:
1) What does the 'E-Module' after the 120GB HD and 64GB SSD mean?
2) What is the Exterenal E-Modular Bay mentioned? A docking station or similar?
3) Could these options also apply to a Latitude E6500, although not offered directly from Dell?

Dell Precision M6700 :: Misaligned Partition On 512e Hard Drive?

Jan 31, 2013

I just started a DELL Precision M6700 for the first time. I also got some yellow paper with it with some "important information - 512e Hard Drive". I thoroughly read all info stated there and followed all the web-links. Finally I came to conclusion that I do have 512e Hard Drive. It is partitioned in 3 partitions and one (first) partition is "Misaligned". Hereby I also post a screenshot of the output of the Dell Advanced Format HDD Detection Tool and some basic info about my system.

Do I need to align this partition before proceeding further with using this laptop? What would be the consequence of leaving the hard drive in this state? How can I align this partition?

Dell :: Vostro 1500 Problems With Over Heating And Hard Drive

Apr 10, 2010

I've got 2 problems with my dell vostro 1500:

1) There is a huge amount of heat coming out of the side vent and the fan is constantly on. I'm led to believe that this is because of dust inside the system. Looking at the service manual (http://support.dell.com/support/edoc....htm#wp1179839) suggests that I have to take the monitor off. I'm worried that the system won't work after I do this. Can't I just open the system from the bottom?

2) My second problem is about hard drive noise. Looking on this website, many people have commented that hard drive noise is low. For me the hard drive noise is quite loud and when your in a quiet room it can be annoying. I've changed the setting in the BIOS to quiet but this has made no difference. I know that the hard drive is not broken because it's only 3/4 months old and I have used seatools to check that there are no faults with the hard drive. Is there any way to make the hard drive quieter?

Dell Latitude E6410 :: Cannot Keep Hard Drive

Dec 9, 2014

My company has offered to give to me my Latitude e6410.  However, I cannot keep the hard drive.  It has to be destroyed per policy.  I am able to pull off recovery information and build my own image.  One more concern is that the current hard drive is encrypted with Symantec Endpoint Encryption (SEE).  Therefore, I do not want to simply clone the drive as I do not want no cannot use that image.

Also, if I need to reinstall my own image of Win 7 from new disks, will this e641 run 64bit.  Currently the OS is WIn7 Pro.What about the recovery partition? I already have a spare 5ooGB 7200rpm 2.5" disk and i have a lot of hardware experience so I have no concerns about the actual disk replacement.  It's just the image.

Dell :: Hard Drive Options For Latitude E4200?

Feb 8, 2009

I think the E4200 is a great machine, and I can probably get one cheap off Dell Outlet. My only real concern here is hard drive capacity. The standard options of 64GB or 128GB SSD aren't going to cut it for me...

I'd want to have at least a 256GB SSD or one of the Toshiba 250GB 5400RPM 1.8" drives.

I know that the E4200 has a 1.8" hard drive slot, so a standard 2.5" notebook hard drive will not work at all.

But its 1.8" slot should mean that regular 1.8" hard drives should work in it, no? Surely the computer can use either a 1.8" SSD drive or 1.8" hard drive

Dell :: Can I Move Hard Drive From Thinkpad To Latitude E6400?

May 12, 2009

I've got an old Thinkpad R61i with a Western Digital "Blue" 320gb drive installed in it running Vista Premium.

I bought the drive from Zipzoomfly and installed it into the Thinkpad in January in order to bring back some life to the computer. And it worked; it's fast and quiet.

A few weeks ago, I bought a refurb E6400 from the Dell outlet store. It came with a 160gb hard drive installed.

It's a nice drive. But as the days tick away, I've been thinking of pulling the 320 from the Thinkpad and installing it into the E6400.

I'm mean what the heck, I'll get twice the space, and it's a Western Digital. It's a win win.

Dell Latitude E6330 :: After Installing New Hard Drive Cannot Disable Touchpad

Apr 5, 2013

I have a Dell Latitude E6330 laptop and I recently replaced my hard drive as my old one had died--this was confirmed by the IT department at my school.  After replacing the hard drive on my laptop, I found that the Fn+F5 command to disable my touchpad/touch stick was unresponsive.  Upon further inspection, the touchpad button on my system tray was gone, and all touchpad related functions of my laptop were gone.  In place of my touchpad (and all windows, settings, options, etc. ... that concerned it) was this ps/2 compatible mouse, which I am not allowed to disable.

I am a gamer and a student, and having my touchpad/touch stick enabled hinders my ability to type or play games as easily as I am used to due to misclicks.  I used to be able to set my laptop to disable my touchpad (and other related hardware) automatically when I plugged in a USB mouse, and I would like to return to this setting if possible. How to do this without disabling the touchpad in the BIOS (as I do need to use my touchpad during lectures) ...

Dell :: Vostro Vs Precision

Apr 27, 2010

I'm looking to upgrade my cheap consumer-grade laptop with something more robust. My uses are mostly software development as well as photography (Photoshop, etc.). I'm not interested in using this new machine for gaming (that would be a very secondary use).

I'm looking for a 17" laptop, so am considering both the Vostro 3700 and Precision M6500. I understand the system differences between these two machines, as well as the cost differences. Ideally, I'd like whatever I buy to last 3+ years without falling too far behind in technology, but on the other hand the Precision is very expensive (budgets suck).

Thus, would the new Vostro 3700, maxed out on configuration, be a worthwhile investment or, since I'm going to spend the money, should I go the extra mile and get the Precision? What would I miss (other than the graphics card mostly) if I go Vostro?

I've been agonizing over this for a good month or so and realize making a decision like this in a vacuum isn't going to happen, so let me know your thoughts.

Dell :: Latitude E6500 Vs. Precision M4400- Differences?

Jan 27, 2009

I currently have a Latitude E6400 that I LOVE...except for the display. I bought it from the Outlet and it was such a good deal that I couldn't pass it up. But it has the WXGA (1280x800) CCFL display and I really wanted the WXGA+ LED.

I'm in the process of finding its replacement, again from Dell Outlet. I'm seriously thikning about stepping up a size to the E6500 and getting the WUXGA (1920x1200) display. The Outlet also has a surprising number of Precision M4400s in stock, too. I've also found several of those with the WUXGA display that I want.

I don't "need" the more powerful graphics card in the M4400. But I really like (make that- LOVE) the exterior design of the Precision

Dell :: To All Who Are Unhappy With Latitude/Precision Fingerprint Reader

Nov 30, 2009

This has been brought up before in this forum, but it was as an off-topic discussion on a thread with a different topic. I'd like to bring it to full discussion.

Basically, I'm quite happy with my E6400 but I don't use the fingerprint reader, because that involves using the Embassy Trust Suite.

This means that you cannot use the fingerprint reader for any other uses except logging on at boot and windows logon screen. You cannot use it for your web browser, for example.

Several people have asked Dell to invest in an open API for the fingerprint reader because of this. Dell suggested we opened a thread in their community feedback site, "Dell IdeaStorm", which I did. Here's the link.
