I found thecd/DVD drive in my Devise Manager and it had "!" next to it and the devise status stated"Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. View 5 RepliesI just bought an SSD for my Insiron 3737 along with a caddy so I can replace the CD-RW with a 2nd hard drive. The laptop came by default with a WD 1TB hard drive which I removed and replaced with the new Intel SSD, the WD drive took the place of the CD-RW.
At first I had trouble booting when the WD drive was connected since that one had Windows installed on it as well. After formatting the WD drive I can now boot but a new problem occurs. Windows sees the WD drive a healthy, ready to use drive for a few seconds or minutes after booting and then the hard drive simply vanishes from Disk Management.
I checked the caddy even took it back to where I bought it from so they can check if it's faulty but it seems that's not the problem.
why the WD drive isn't recognized?
I have replaced the hard drives with new blank ones, but I cannot now reinstall Vista from the Reinstallation DVD because no drives are seen.
I have updated the BIOS to the latest available version, but still no joy.
I have taken out the drives and, using an external HDD port, can access them from another PC, so I'm certain there's no issues with the drives themselves.
I've tried Paragon 2010 Suite, but even that cannot "see" the drives, so I'm deducing that it's an issue peculiar to this Dell model.
I have an Inspiron 1750 that will not recognize the hard drive. I have done the on-board diagnostics and the preboot assessment says that no diagnostic utility partition identified. I am hoping that I just need to replace the hard drive, but I did not make a restore disc before it crashed. Which of the drivers I need to restore the computer to it's factory settings.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a 1 week old Latitude E4310 and the exhaust is always blowing hot air. I notice that the disk activity light always blinks even though the system is idle, or is it? Even though I have configured the advanced power to turn off HDD after 20 minutes (10 minutes when on battery), it seems that the HDD does not turn off at all because it is being accessed by something! What is it? Do you have an E4310? Is it hot?

Well I was able to buy the whole laptop base, with system board and power button so all i had to do was install the screen cd drive, hard drive, and wireless. I did all of this and put it back together, but when i try to start the computer it gives me a no hard drive installed error. What can I do? I ran the memory test and its 100% working, and in the start up test or whatever, the only thing with a problem is the hard drive not showing up.

The integrated webcam on my E4310 is not being recognised anywhere. This is a topic which already has several previous discussions, but without any solution for me. The webcam doesn't appear in device manager:

Both HDD and Wifi LED are steady blue and the middle battery one starts blinking ( battery is not installed ).
System, I/O and TAA boards have been replaced without success. what else could be wrong, ?
nb : tests have been done with everything unplugged except screen cable and connectors cable.
I have an HP Pavilion g6-1d21dx Notebook PC that was originally installed with Windows 7 Home Premium. However, the hard drive started acting funny, so an SSD was put in its place and Windows 8 was installed on it. However, now I want to go back to Windows 7 Home Premium. However, I heard that since the hardware configuration of the computer was changed (via the hard drive), the OEM key (which I still have), wouldn't take. Will it work or will it not?

My company has offered to give to me my Latitude e6410. However, I cannot keep the hard drive. It has to be destroyed per policy. I am able to pull off recovery information and build my own image. One more concern is that the current hard drive is encrypted with Symantec Endpoint Encryption (SEE). Therefore, I do not want to simply clone the drive as I do not want no cannot use that image.
Also, if I need to reinstall my own image of Win 7 from new disks, will this e641 run 64bit. Currently the OS is WIn7 Pro.What about the recovery partition? I already have a spare 5ooGB 7200rpm 2.5" disk and i have a lot of hardware experience so I have no concerns about the actual disk replacement. It's just the image.
I am getting a hand me down Dell D430 (Latitude) but it coming with a dead hard drive.

I think the E4200 is a great machine, and I can probably get one cheap off Dell Outlet. My only real concern here is hard drive capacity. The standard options of 64GB or 128GB SSD aren't going to cut it for me...
I'd want to have at least a 256GB SSD or one of the Toshiba 250GB 5400RPM 1.8" drives.
I know that the E4200 has a 1.8" hard drive slot, so a standard 2.5" notebook hard drive will not work at all.
But its 1.8" slot should mean that regular 1.8" hard drives should work in it, no? Surely the computer can use either a 1.8" SSD drive or 1.8" hard drive
Looking at the dell site, it's pretty clear that I can put a second hard drive in both the vostro and the precision. However, I can't see that option for the Latitude. Am I missing something? The latitude, being right between the other two, is the best fit .....

I've got an old Thinkpad R61i with a Western Digital "Blue" 320gb drive installed in it running Vista Premium.
I bought the drive from Zipzoomfly and installed it into the Thinkpad in January in order to bring back some life to the computer. And it worked; it's fast and quiet.
A few weeks ago, I bought a refurb E6400 from the Dell outlet store. It came with a 160gb hard drive installed.
It's a nice drive. But as the days tick away, I've been thinking of pulling the 320 from the Thinkpad and installing it into the E6400.
I'm mean what the heck, I'll get twice the space, and it's a Western Digital. It's a win win.
having issues with my Dell Latitude E5440. The BIOS does not recognise it, I tested the HD with a external caddy and it works fine. I messed a lot with BIOS thinking it could be a settings but had no luck.

After replacing the hard drive on my laptop, I found that the Fn+F5 command to disable my touchpad/touch stick was unresponsive. Upon further inspection, the touchpad button on my system tray was gone, and all touchpad related functions of my laptop were gone. In place of my touchpad (and all windows, settings, options, etc. ... that concerned it) was this ps/2 compatible mouse, which I am not allowed to disable.
I am a gamer and a student, and having my touchpad/touch stick enabled hinders my ability to type or play games as easily as I am used to due to misclicks. I used to be able to set my laptop to disable my touchpad (and other related hardware) automatically when I plugged in a USB mouse, and I would like to return to this setting if possible. How to do this without disabling the touchpad in the BIOS (as I do need to use my touchpad during lectures) ...

Installed replacement hard drive in Latitude E6510. Ordered same drive as originally installed from Dell. When I try to install OS on new drive I get the "No Boot Device Found" error. When I enter set up the HDD and DVD drive are shown as installed. I changed the boot sequence to have the DVD run as first boot device.

View 5 Replies View RelatedWe are having to make do and defer hardware purchases. We have tried to add RAM to a Latitude D610 to improve user performance. There is a 2GB stick plus a 512K stick. It seems that A06 (10/12/2005) is the most recent BIOS version. BIOS only recognizes 2GB. Windows recognizes 2.5GB, but states can only use 2GB.
Is there anything that can be done so that it could recognize the 2.5GB or even 4GB ( 2 x 2GB), within the 32 bit windows limitations of course?
