Dell doesn't have this, but are there any good third part solutions. I guess the reason Dell doesn't have it is that the computer demands a rather hefty PSU, but still...

How do you order i7 920 processors ? It doesn't give me such option on the website (all it shows in processor option is "Mobile Precision M6500 Silver Base")
so I called dell sales team to find out which processor is there, and on the website it shows "Up to Intel® CoreTM i7- 920XM Quad Core Extreme processors" so i thought it might be as the only option and goes as standard),
they told me that m6500 is only available with i7 820 (1.73hz) and the machine is upgradable to i7 920. heh ? seems like scam
Meantime I can't choose 2 HDD with 500GB, as primary only ATA and secondary is only SATA.

The problem Im currently having with my laptop is that every time i turn it on, it last about 4 seconds before it shuts down. I can only see the power and battery light on before shutting down. I dont even see the screen turning on. I try going to diagnostic mode and the only thing that changes is that my keyboard lights go on, but then after 4 seconds laptop shuts down. What to do or what might be causing this??

I would like a big hard drive, but it seems like those bigger than 750 GB are 12 mm, not 9 mm. But can I use that as a secondary hard drive on the Precision?

Acer V3-111P laptop and when using the keyboard on the laptop, typing a certain letter that letter will add an extra character. Example, typing letter e, it will add ex, letter q will become q1, letter c will become hc. Not all letter will do that but there are a few.I've reformatted the laptop already and updated the BIOS as well. Also deleted the keyboard driver and re-install after to no avail. Still the same thing to those letters.

I tried follow some suggestion as: install Dell Feature Enhancement Pack v2.2.1
But I didn't find "Dell Keyboard Backlight Settings" on control panel as guidance.

so this precision was originally a non baclit keyboard and recently replaced it with a backlit and the right arrow key does not work. I have checked every ribbon on this keyboard and everything is snug. I am running windows 8.1. Am I missing something here. Is it a hardware or software issue i need to look into?

I have a Dell Precision M4800 laptop with windows 7 64bit. The backlight keyboard goes off if there is no activity for 10 seconds. I'm wondering if there is a way to change this so that it stays on even if there is no typing? (I have no option to change this in the Windows Mobility Center).

IÂ have a Dell Precision M4700 and am trying to use the keyboard backlight.Â
The problem is that even a short pause in typing, the keyboard backlight goes out. (about 5-6 seconds). It does not go on until I hit another key, (which then types that character, which I then have to erase).
Is there a way to set the keyboard backlight delay to a longer setting?

I have a Precision M4700, Windows 7 Ultimate on which the touchpad and keyboard nubbin have become unresponsive ever since I installed a Mircosoft Wireless Notebook Optical Mouse 3000. The touchpad doesn't even appear in the device manager under the human input devices. Pro support at Dell is baffled. I've looked at the settings in the Dell Touchpad software and everything looks OK (e.g., Touchpad is not disabled). It's simply gone. It doesn't appear in the Bios or when we booted from a Windows 7 DVD. Â We well probably either have to send the system back or replace the motherboard? What is to prevent it from happening again?

i noticed today after my computer installed internet explorer 8, that if i open a window, then drag it on the desktop, it leaves a white trail behind it. its really weird.
i've downloaded the latest drivers from dell, and just installed them. everything seems to be set right, from the resolution, the the sli enabled. but i'm at a loss

I like their ability to provide quick access and a quick overview of information in a small space. Found this page and thought I would pass it along to others:
Menubar Items
The list is pretty good, though not exhaustive. Feel free to add any that you can't live without.

Acer Aspire V3-772G - BIOS setup utility menu items have disappeared
Â
I have setup this brand new laptop, pre-installed with Windows 8.1, for my sister-in-law who bought it. Â The installation went well BUT the 16GB USB device which I purchased as advised by the Acer literature to store the recovery partition was not big enough, the physical capacity being 14.4GB. Â The Acer book says use a 16GB device or larger so I did. Â I naively thought that a USB drive which was labelled 16GB would be appropriate. Â Not so. Â I have had to buy a larger one but am still awaiting delivery.
Â
I therefore decided to image the whole HDD to save the work I had done but found that the Acronis Backup and Recovery DVD would not boot. Â I went into the setup utility and adjusted the Boot settings to legacy and changed device priority. Â Acronis would not run so I did not continue. Â I went back into the setup utility, used F9 to restore the default and found to my astonishment that the DUAL boot option had now disappeared and the Windows Boot option had also vanished.
Â
This means that this £800 laptop is now unusable.  The setup utility self-reconfigured without warning.  Nowhere is there any advice or warning not to use the setup utility in case it erases features which cannot be recovered by using F9 to recover the default configuration.  If this is not a serious design fault, I don't know what is.Â
Â
I am deeply worried because the idea of a BIOS setup utility behaving this way seems so improbable. Â How is it that the setup utility has been designed to self-harm like this?

I'm planing to buy a M6500 with 4GB in 2 DIMMS and buy 2 more DIMMS somewhere else.
And I have a few questions.
What RAM I should pick from DELL, 1066mhz or 1333mhz?
Also what type of memory should I be looking on Ebay the 204pin or 200pin?
And the last one, which brands of memory are good?

I just ordered one of these Precisions, and I'm just wondering if they take advantage of the integrated graphics on the CPU (like for switchable graphics power saving)?
Or would the engineers just completely disable the integrated graphics because of the discrete ATI M7740?

I am in the process of specing a new laptop for engineering work. I will do a little bit of CAD, but mainly processor intensive mathematical simulations in Java, Matlab, or Scilab.
I am considering purchasing either the m4500 or m6500. I don't think I will mind lugging around the m6500. The positive attributes, as I see them, of the two machines are shown below.
Other than that they seem like they are on par, though I can't help but think the m6500 will be able to better handle the cooling requirements of their components than the m4500. What does everyone think? Is it even fair to compare the two?
m6500 pro's:
Graphics power (I would get ATI graphics)
1600 mhz memory supported
4 RAM slots
USB 3.o .....

My old Inspiron 8600 has a spare battery that fits into the optical drive bay. It's really a nice feature and lets me get over four hours battery life out of this dusty old laptop. Does the M6400 have a similar feature? I was wondering if there was a way to get some extra battery life out of it.

I'm a photographer, and bought an XPS 15 9630 to do my photo editing. The machine came with the 30Gb mSATA and 1Tb HDD, which wasn't nearly enough for my needs. I've successfully fitted a Samsung 1Tb mSATA, but I would like to upgrade the other drive also. At the moment I have 2 1Tb hard disks, and 2Tb total storage. (After a fair bit of fiddling in BIOS)
I have a Seagate Spinpoint M9T 2Tb disk which I would like to use,but when I fit it, it didn't show up in the BIOS or O/S. It works fine in other laptops. The disk that came with the laptop is 6mm, this one is 9mm, but seems to fit fine. The disk shows up if I remove the mSATA.Is this a problem that can be overcome?

I really would like to get two of these, since they are less than 1/3 of the price of the adapters I can get in Norway, but I'm a bit suspicious.
The original adapter for my Precision M6500 is 210 watts (which is totally crazy, but I guess the Fire GL card eats most of it), and this is rated at 90w. But will it even work? Here's the eBay auction, it's in Great Britain:

I have a problem I've never had with any stationary computer (I have never had a dual hard drive laptop before...):
I have one 320 meg drive which I use as little as possible in drive bay one and another, larger drive in drive bay two.
An expensive program I use for work is registered to the drive in bay one, and I can't get a new license, so I would like it to last as long as possible, which is why I only use it there as a kind of dongle.
For the software licensing stuff to work it has to be seen as the first drive by Windows, but not necessarily the one I boot from
