View 3 Replies View RelatedMy old Inspiron 8600 has a spare battery that fits into the optical drive bay. It's really a nice feature and lets me get over four hours battery life out of this dusty old laptop. Does the M6400 have a similar feature? I was wondering if there was a way to get some extra battery life out of it.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm a photographer, and bought an XPS 15 9630 to do my photo editing. The machine came with the 30Gb mSATA and 1Tb HDD, which wasn't nearly enough for my needs. I've successfully fitted a Samsung 1Tb mSATA, but I would like to upgrade the other drive also. At the moment I have 2 1Tb hard disks, and 2Tb total storage. (After a fair bit of fiddling in BIOS)
I have a Seagate Spinpoint M9T 2Tb disk which I would like to use,but when I fit it, it didn't show up in the BIOS or O/S. It works fine in other laptops. The disk that came with the laptop is 6mm, this one is 9mm, but seems to fit fine. The disk shows up if I remove the mSATA.Is this a problem that can be overcome?
I have a working Inspiron 4100 and a maybe working 1200. I wanted to pull the hard drive from the 4100 to test the 1200 which may have a dead hard drive.
I found that it wouldn't fit. The drive from the 4100 has a set of three extra pins making it different than the 1200 hard drive. Is this normal? Why the extra pins for the 4100?
Possibly off topic, but it is related to a Dell Precision (workstation..)
A message that you don't want to see on your main file server..."TERMINAL DISK FAILURE"...
Happily, I just pull the borked disk out and stick in a spare (of the wrong capacity, but hey...) whilst awaiting the arrival of a replacement...and all is well
I'm looking at getting a SXPS(still trying to decide between the 16 and 13) and just wanted to get your opinions on whether or not you think the solid state drives are worth the extra money.

My second question is this, i am from croatia but this september i am enrolling in university in UK (16th sept.), and I saw that the 220£ discount is ending on the 26th of august,
is it possible to delay the delivery or to specify the date you would like the delivery to be made?
basically I am thinking of connecting an extra monitor (19', 20' 22' ?) to my Dell Inspiron 1300 which has Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator 900...
how do I go about this?
My family have bought me the Precision M6500, a little more than I need, but a great machine. Is it possible to find literature on the extra items on the keyboard ,

I have a TT11 with 2GB RAM and i am looking to increase this to 4GB RAM as soon as i find a store in the UK which sells it.
I just wanted to know how much of a difference the extra RAM will make on the TT? I know it will proberbly depend on a number of factors, but i was just after a rough idea.
can i use any of the following RAM for the TT?

I managed to write a fix for the ACPI bug which was preventing proper power management if you add one more 2.5" SSD/HDD to the Quad SSD VPC-Z11.
Basically, it is a windows driver which loads very early (immediately after NT kernel and HAL) and dynamically patches the ACPI tables with the proper ones (which I dumped from the "bug-free" system state)
NOTE - the patch is for the very experienced users, so PLEASE read the readme.rtf VERY CAREFULLY and please think carefully whether you want to proceed further.
Naturally - It goes without saying that this is a potentially dangerous process, and that usage of any info from the attached vaiopatch.zip file is at your own risk No, seriously, this can make your computer unbootable so please check the readme and do consider if you can perform the repair steps before trying to do anything! System backup is a must.
I believe I documented the process well, so that people with moderately advanced system knowledge can use this patch. There is a pre-compiled driver available in the /example directory, but that driver is valid for systems which have EXACTLY the same configuration as mine (all described in Readme)
If you have a different system (e.g. ACPI tables at different locations, different CPU from i7-620M, etc..), you will need to extract good ACPI data and re-build the driver by yourself. This process will require Windows DDK and some C/C++ programming knowledge. I cannot provide too much support there unfortunately, outside from I already wrote in readme.
I’m trying to solve a problem with an Acer aspire One notebook.
The function (FN 5 ) hotkey button combo do not work, other hotkey commands like volume, sleep, screen blank all work, the note book has an external data show connected to it and it will not connect with the data show using FN5,several different data shows have been tried to no avail, the notebook is running XP home.
I have looked at device manager and there are no yellow exclamation marks apparent.
I did a clean install of Windows 7. I did not load all that crap from the 2nd CD.I am trying to determine which Drivers I need to install.
I installed the VAIO® Event Service and Sony® Shared Library.
What is strange is, when I click on the FN button and press the increase brightness key, the brightness meter does appear on the screen, but it will not go above the lowest setting.
I have been looking for Acer 7720 hotkey drivers but in vain. Can a good soul direct me to an appropriate place to look in? I've looked on Acer's driver download page but it doesn't list anything regarding hotkeys. Btw I'm running windows 7 (if you can find a driver for vista, it'll do).
View 4 Replies View Relatedhow, when you press the "e" empowering technology button the toolbar pops up?
And when you switch on the bluetooth module, the WLAN switch, and even the FN+UpArrow and DownArrow and the little green text at the bottom of the screen comes up? Well, in my system it's not working anymore.
Last thing I remembered that happened was my Norton IS 2009 detected a virus and prompted to restart the system, and so I did, and then things started to go weird. For instance, the touchpad driver needed to be reinstalled, and then I could see that my startup items DRASTICALLY got reduced, looking at the task manager. I tried reinstalling the Empowering Technology Framework, but still it doesn't work. Any of you guys experienced issues like this?
I've got an Aspire 9304, and it's just 1gb RAM.
I'm thinking of buying an extra 1gb of Ram from eBay that says they work on my model.
Is it easy to fit? I know it says on that eBay page that the 9304 will take this 1gb upgrade, but will it for sure?
Has anyone installed XP on their Acer 1410 and got the hotkey software to work
properly? I can get everything to work (sound/bluetooth/video out) except lcd brightness. FN + left or right arrow key does not do anything.
I have a Hp pavilion dv6-1045ee....
Actually, this notebook has a long history in modifying MBR and BCD......
--SOME OF THE HISTORY--"SKIP IT IF YOU WANT TO"
----------------------------------------------------------------------
My original problem was to burn the recovery disks, as the recovery manager software couldn't see the recovery partition. That's because when I first bought the notebook I wanted to divide its hard disk into several partitions, but that was not the mistake....The mistake was using Partition magic to do so....
It messed with my partition table (I guess).
However, I was able to retore the "LINK" between the recovery partition and the recovery manager software by applying the recovery partition's boot sectors of a friend of mine with a similar laptop on mine.
That was done after alot of MBR experiments to find out how to fix that problem.
So now I can burn the recovery disks, but I wont. The reason is that I want to be sure that the recovery partition functions properly before applying the "ONE TIME" burning process...............
Is it possible to add exstra RAM to my Aspire laptop E1-570 ? And if, should I just go to normal computer shop and let them change the RAM ?Â
View 6 Replies View RelatedI know I can add 1G more RAM to my HP dv6000 laptop which Currently has 1 gig RAM to give a total of 2 G. But since I upgraded the operating system from Vista to Windows 7 with SP1 64 bit , 1.6 ghz, can I add even more to achieve a total of 3 G or 4 G?  It looks like the limiting factor is the 1.6 ghz speed.

How to install the latest version of the HP HotKey Support softpaq silently, and without a restart?
Â
The laptop I have is a Probook 6570bThe OS is Windows 7 Pro x86The softpaq is: SP59202 (version 4.6.10.1)Â
The previous versions of this allowed for a silent, no-restart installation but the latest one is different.
Â
I can get it to install by extracting the Setup.exe from the SP59202 executable and running it with the switches: /S /v/qn but it always restarts the PC at the end.
I can't adjust or change my brightness with the hotkey (F11 and F12) or even with the slider in settings. option brightness of my laptop doesn"t change it is stationary.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI just purchased a G505s laptop, and I now realize that the function keys (F1-F12) operate as Lenovo hotkeys by default, and I need to press th "Fn" key along with them in order to get them to function in their original mode. This is not acceptable for my normal usage. I know with other Lenovo laptops, there is a BIOS setting that allows the user to either "disable" hotkey mode, or set them to "legacy" mode, but in the current BIOS/UEFI for the G505s there is no option to do so.
