I did a clean install of Windows 7. I did not load all that crap from the 2nd CD.I am trying to determine which Drivers I need to install.
I installed the VAIO® Event Service and Sony® Shared Library.
What is strange is, when I click on the FN button and press the increase brightness key, the brightness meter does appear on the screen, but it will not go above the lowest setting.

I have had this computer for about 9 months and just recently have been unable to adjust the screen brightness. I have had this problem for a couple weeks and have installed all available updates and restarted the computer. I could not find any relevant information on this issue. My product is in warranty until December ....

I used my brightness down button once and now it won't go back up. I can't adjust the settings at all, despite the graphic on the screen showing me the meter going up and down. I've checked all drivers, tried uninstalling and reinstalling lenovo energy management, and I've still got nothing. I've stopped short of a factory reset because that's super annoying having set everything up and then a couple weeks after purchase have to do it again.

-Reinstalled Intel and Nvidia drivers simultaneously
-Remove Lenovo Power management
-Tried to install NVIDIA driver from the Lenovo and the Nvidia page

I open this post to report a brightness problem on Lenovo Z500 Ideapad. Yesterday I've upgraded to OS Windows 8.1 and when I adjusted the screen brightness it goes off, and brightness adjust function doesn't works. I've solved my problem reinstalling the Intel video drivers, downloaded from Lenovo Driver Support.
It seems that Windows 8.1 upgrade disables video drivers.

For some reason I can't change my screen brightness anymore. I've already tried a HD 4000 driver rollback to version 9.17.10.3223 and I also disabled "adaptive screen brightness" at the power management. For some reason I can change the brightness by using the "microsoft basic display adapter" driver instead of the HD 4000 but that isn't a real solution.

Another problem on my Lenovo Thinkpad L520: After installing the Lenovo Power Management Driver, I can no longer adjust the LCD brightness by using the FN+DEL/POS1 keys. Immediately after adjusting the brightness, it gets reverted to its old value, set in the Power Management software.
Â
I tried the Windows 7 driver (1.65.05.21) and the WIndows XP/7/8 driver (1.66.0.22), both with the same result.
Â
This is really annoying and I am very frustrated with Lenovo right now, since this is not the only problem I am having with the laptop.

I can't adjust my screen brightness using the Power Manager. Updating to the latest release of the ThinkVantage Communications Utility did not solve the issue. I can't make the screen either brighter or dimmer.

I just purchased a G505s laptop, and I now realize that the function keys (F1-F12) operate as Lenovo hotkeys by default, and I need to press th "Fn" key along with them in order to get them to function in their original mode. This is not acceptable for my normal usage. I know with other Lenovo laptops, there is a BIOS setting that allows the user to either "disable" hotkey mode, or set them to "legacy" mode, but in the current BIOS/UEFI for the G505s there is no option to do so.

When I press the wlan or the bluetooth key, the short message is in Finnish. I would like to have that in English or Swedish.
Is it possible to change? How?
The notebook is an Acer Extensa 7620. Tried to find a driver for launchkeys, but no driver is available on their ftp-site for this notebook. Can a similar driver work? And what name has that driver?

After updating my Thinkpad T540p, I cannot adjust the brightness in anyway. This is a problem because the screen is too birght and eats up battery.
Â
It appears the only way to adjust the brightness is to use Intel HD Graphics, which isn't so convenient.
Â
Fn keys don't work. changing the brightness on the Power Manager settings doesn't work. There is no brightness option on Windows Power Manager.
Â
I have Intel HD Graphics 4600 10.18.10.3960
I have Lenovo Power Manager 6.66.3
Â
Edit: In fact, I think it's posisble that Power Manager to just outright no longer works.

I get some problems on the function keys.
1) The indicator of microphone mutation is not on when I mute it.Â
2) F7~F12 are not working w/o Fn function.
Â
I tried to start the Lenovo microphone mute and the Lenovo hotkey client loader, but they gave me error 1075: the dependency service does not exist or has been marked deletion. Then I installed the dependency package and the Hotkey integration (the latest version), but same thing happened.Â

I have just bought a new W540 and it's almost impossible to work with common software packages that heavily use F1-F12. Every time I want to use the F1-F12 keys, I have to press also the Fn key. For me this is a problematic change from my previous T510 machine...
Â
Is there a way to swap the default behavior of the multimedia keys with the F1-F12 legacy keys?

For some reason the brightness on my lcd isn't adjustable. It's stuck at full brightness, on battery, on power, doesn't matter. I've had this laptop for about 2 weeks now. When I first got it, the brightness levels were working, but now they are not. OS is Windows 7 Home.
FN - Brightness Down brings up a on screen display showing the brightness level at full and goes down by about 1, though I see no different in the brightness. It doesn't matter how many times I press the button, it never goes down more than 1.
Control Panel -> Display -> Adjust Brightness -> Power Options: The slider at the bottom shows the brightness level at lowest setting. The FN - Brightness adjustment will move this slider up / down on the scale, but there is no change in the screen brightness.
Anyone have any ideas as to why I can not adjust the brightness and how I can get it back to where I can adjust it?

I just installed Win7, sticking as much as possible to this method:
VAIO FW Clean Windows 7 Install Guide
everything's working, all FN keys, volume multimedia zoom LCD out,
all but brightness.
problem is, using the FN keys, the brightness dialog is showing, but I can't increase or decrease it. brightness does not show up on power managment nor on mobilty center. the power plans from vaio ("VAIO optimized") are showing, but still if I pull the plug screen stays on maximum brightness...

I tried using the F2 and F3 keys to lower the brightness and I tried to adjust it from settings and control panal but the brightness doesn't adjust when I move it up or down. I tried shutting down my computer and restarting it but I still can't adjust the brightness.

When I am in Speed mode, I can not adjust the screen brightness by using Fn+F5 and Fn+F6. I really would like to have this functionality back again .....
