I have installed the latest driers and since then I am unable to change the screen brightness using function keys. I have installed multiple driver updates hence it is difficult to find out which driver is causing the issue.

Is there any way to change the default behavior of the function keys (e.g., F1, F2, F3...) back to function keys like all other computers? When using Excel, it is extremely annoying not to be able to access key one-key functions like F2 and F4.

Also the Lenovo software nor Windows configuration seems to be able to change this. Is there anyway to do this?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have very annoying problem with hot keys for adjusting monitor brightness! After last version of hot keys driver they don't work. I can't increase or decrease brightness! Pressing them down and can't change anything. And there is something more! For example I have adjusted some level from power manager and everything looks good until I don't try to manage brightness with hot keys. I doesn't matter if i want to increase or decrease brightness, it just goes to maximum level!
View 9 Replies View RelatedI much prefer to use the function keys AS FUNCTION KEYS. I don't want the default to be fast forward or rewind or stop or sound options. I want f2 to be f2 (edit excel cell) and so on. Currently I press fn EVERY time. It's annoying.
Is there a way of changing the defualt key to be what was originally intended? HP has made finding this information impossible so far.

I just got the x120e and I already went through and fixed it auto-brightening itself. After I hit the Fn + Home and adjusted it to my preference. It was not on the charger when I did that and I was in a darker room so I had the brightness down lower. Later on in the day, I plugged it in to charge and I went to make it brighter. The brightness is not changing however. All the oher Fn + F keys are working. Just not the two for brightness. The weird thing is, I shut the computer, waited for it to enter sleep mode then opened it up again and it was really bright and I had to pretty much squint, but again the keys were not working to lower it. I closed it again and opened it and it is again dimmer. The keys still aren't working.

View 1 Replies View RelatedIt seems as if the first time after I restart my laptop (Dell inspiron 7000 series, windows 8.1) and I attempt to use the volume/ backlight toggle/ brightness/ etc keys found on the F keys on my keyboard, I can use them pretty much freely. The problem is after I close my laptop for the first time since restarting I then have to hold the Fn button to use them. It can be very annoying at times considering you eventually get used to holding the Fn key, so after the first time using them since restarted you end up hitting F4/5/6 etc instead of changing the brightness or whatever setting you are trying to change. I was wondering if there was some type of setting where I can make these keys permanently free to use as opposed to having to hold the Fn keys after the first time the laptop is in sleep mode.

The only issue I've noticed is that it does not display anything on screen when you use the function keys, such as the volume up or down, or bright ness up or down. The keys work, but it would be nice to see on screen that my volume is set at 2% vs say 100% when I'm turning it up or down.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI'm having the same trouble with my brand new 8460p : the brightness of the display can not be adjusted with the function keys (fn+F-keys) while in Windows. In other threads the problem has been solved by installing newest chipset drivers (which was not provided by HP), but in these threads the computer has been an earlier model. 8460p has the new QM67 express chipset and currently I'm running the latest drivers (according to intel's detection web site) for it.
I'm running a fresh install of Windows 7 Enterprise 64bit with all the latest drivers.
I've got 2 separate but really annoying issues with my W540 20BH:
- display brightness keys not working: when waking up from Hibernation mode, sometimer (really, randomly!) the display brightness keys (Fn+F5/F6) don't work.... either if the display brightness is stuck on max, min or an intermediate level...Is there a way to shut down and restart the process which commands the Fn keys?
- audio channel commutation gets stuck. Normal behaviour of the audio configuration is:
1) speaker volume disabled, mic disabled
2) when plugging in a 4-pin headset, headset's volume is on, headset's mic is switched on; speaker volume is still disables.
3) when unplugging the headset, speakers' volume is still 0
After each boot, the audio channel is at 0, but doesn't commute to the headset when plugged in! I have to open Configuration Panel, realtek properties. With this window open, unplug and re-plug the headset. Now, the volume has its normal behaviour.
Any better way to configure audio channels and evenments, which is able to bypass realtek's manager?
For some reason I can't change my screen brightness anymore. I've already tried a HD 4000 driver rollback to version 9.17.10.3223 and I also disabled "adaptive screen brightness" at the power management. For some reason I can change the brightness by using the "microsoft basic display adapter" driver instead of the HD 4000 but that isn't a real solution.

Only during charging of my laptop or when the laptop is on battery does the jittery/distorted audio playback occur. Happens during Flash playback or local media playback using say VLC, sometimes the distortion can Freeze or lock up the system.....
I've tried Audio Drivers, Video and my BIOS is the latest. This playback issue did not occur under Windows7 when I had it installed....

I have the Lenovo L440 (20AT002YGE) with the integrated Intel Graphics.
I have turned off the automatic dimming of the screen brightnes in the windows energy settings and also turned off the energy saver settings in the Intel driver but the screen keeps beeing dimmed when the background is black or dark. This is very annoying when you work outdoor and the sun keeps shining on your display and than it dimms the brightness.

How to reduce screen brightness below standard level in ThinkPad T520 ?
I think it is possible somehow, but I don't know how. I reduced brightness to zero using Fn key + End key, but it's not enough, I want to make screen darker, because my eyes get tired.
My laptop has a keyboard where i have to use the FN key to use the function keys at the top, instead of having to press the FN key to use the action keys. ive been looking everywhere for a way to make it so i dont have to press the FN key to use my function keys, i looked at the bios but i dont see an option to disable the action keys, nor can i find an option anywhere elce in my laptop to set it like that, id even embrace an option to go into the registry to swap the on/off signal of the FN key.

Is there a way to reverse the way F1, F2.. F12 keys work, so they work like on any other regular keyboard.
I use the basic functionality of the F-keys all the time, when renaming files, searching and so on, and I would like to be able to use them without having to press "fn" every time.
I can't adjust screen brightness using either function key or in control panel. Using the function key the little panel of brightness volume shows up on the screen but does nothing. And in control panel, through either the bottom brightness scroll or the power option won't change anything. Only time when the brightness will change is I unplug the power, but in the power settings it won't let me change/adjust the brightness.
And what is the battery function key for? I press it and it does nothing. XPS L521x
I recently purchased an Ideapad P400, and I have noticed that the default for the keys where F1 and F2, etc. usually are, are now the mute and volume buttons. To access the F1, F2....F12 keys, you now have to press Fn + your desired F key.
While I understand many people probably find this useful, I play several games where these keys are essential, and it makes playing the games nearly impossible to play if you have to hold down the Fn key in addition to the desired F key. So my question is, is it possible to reverse the Function keys? I would much rather press Fn + F1 to mute than have to press press Fn + F1 to access F1.

BUT when I go into an application like Word and either hit the function key or combine it with the Alt, Ctrl, or Shift key, I still get the default action of the Funciton key. For example, in Word, the Alt-F9 combination is used to display field codes. When I do that, however, I get the Control Panel popup. Similarly, in a browser, I should be able to hit the F12 key and get the Developers pane at the bottom of the screen. But instead in IE, Chrome, and Firefox, I get a My Computer popup.
