View 2 RepliesMy laptop has a keyboard where i have to use the FN key to use the function keys at the top, instead of having to press the FN key to use the action keys. ive been looking everywhere for a way to make it so i dont have to press the FN key to use my function keys, i looked at the bios but i dont see an option to disable the action keys, nor can i find an option anywhere elce in my laptop to set it like that, id even embrace an option to go into the registry to swap the on/off signal of the FN key.

I just purchased a G505s laptop, and I now realize that the function keys (F1-F12) operate as Lenovo hotkeys by default, and I need to press th "Fn" key along with them in order to get them to function in their original mode. This is not acceptable for my normal usage. I know with other Lenovo laptops, there is a BIOS setting that allows the user to either "disable" hotkey mode, or set them to "legacy" mode, but in the current BIOS/UEFI for the G505s there is no option to do so.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI recently bought the Inspiron 1545 and to be honest was actually quite struck by how simple everything was in the design. However there is only one problem that I found when I use the laptop. In order for the function keys to be used, I would need to press Fn+(Function Key) Eg. Fn+F1. Now obviously function keys are supposed to act like a shortcut key for certain activities. This actually defeats there purpose. Instead by pressing those keys without the Fn key, I would be able to use the multimedia keys and anything else on the keys with a white symbol on.
I was wondering whether there was any way in which I could swap round the functuion of the keys so that I can use the function keys without having to press Fn?
I have just bought a new W540 and it's almost impossible to work with common software packages that heavily use F1-F12. Every time I want to use the F1-F12 keys, I have to press also the Fn key. For me this is a problematic change from my previous T510 machine...

The default behavior of F1 through F12 keys on the z500 are set to perform laptop functions like mute, turn sound or brightness up and down and so on.
Is there a way to reverse the way F1, F2.. F12 keys work, so they work like on any other regular keyboard.
I use the basic functionality of the F-keys all the time, when renaming files, searching and so on, and I would like to be able to use them without having to press "fn" every time.
I recently purchased an Ideapad P400, and I have noticed that the default for the keys where F1 and F2, etc. usually are, are now the mute and volume buttons. To access the F1, F2....F12 keys, you now have to press Fn + your desired F key.
While I understand many people probably find this useful, I play several games where these keys are essential, and it makes playing the games nearly impossible to play if you have to hold down the Fn key in addition to the desired F key. So my question is, is it possible to reverse the Function keys? I would much rather press Fn + F1 to mute than have to press press Fn + F1 to access F1.
S440. I prefer to use the function keys F1-F12 without using the Fn key. It seems like in other models there is an option in the BIOS to change this, but not on my machine. Also the Lenovo software nor Windows configuration seems to be able to change this. Is there anyway to do this?

The only issue I've noticed is that it does not display anything on screen when you use the function keys, such as the volume up or down, or bright ness up or down. The keys work, but it would be nice to see on screen that my volume is set at 2% vs say 100% when I'm turning it up or down.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a problem, normally I press Fn and F5 to bring up the window to enable/disable Wireless Lan and Bluetooth. But it's suddenly stopped working and I cannot switch on my Wireless Lan.
This is on IdeaPad Y580 running Windows 7.
1. When I press Fn F5 no window opens.
2. When I press Fn F6 my track pad is enabled/disabled as normal, although I do not see the notification on screen.
3. When I press the Fn and volume or brightness controls, they work perfectly, but again I do not notification on screen, the bars showing level of volume or brightness.
4. Also the One Touch Recovery and One Key Theater buttons are not working. But the audio Mute button is working.
5. I have uninstalled the Lenovo Energy Management software and reinstalled it but no difference.
6. I have checked the BIOS and Wireless Lan is enabled.
7. I also saw that in Task Manager I cannot see utility.exe running.
I've bought Lenovo M490s notebook one week ago without OS. I've installed Windows 7 Professional x64 retail.First of all I could not find software that controls Function keys. After installing every driver and software from support page (M490s) my function keys just doesnt work except Fn+F1 sleep, Fn+F2 turn off the screen, Fn+F6 disable touchpad and play buttons. Also no information was displaying on the screen after pressing such buttons - no volume and brightness level.
After doing some research I've found and installed Hotkey Features Integration from Lenovo M490 (without S) support page. Every function key is started to work, information on the screen also begin to display (volume and brightness level).Now I spotted a huge problem, after 3 or 4 hibernation volume and brightness keys (fn+up,down,left,right) just stopping to work!!! Fn+F1-F12 combinations are working normal. Then after reboot brightness and volume keys are working again!!
I need the functions keys to act like F1-F12 instead of the various operations they represent. How do I change them back to the legacy functions?

Everytime I install the given amd drivers from lenovo's official page and I check the Device Manager in windows 8 I see that the only enabled graphic card is the integrated Intel HD 4600. I tried to install the Intel drivers first but I get a error message that says that the computer does not meet the minimum requierments for installing that software.

I am having a problem with my keyboard on my dell studio 1737. When you press certain keys on the keyboard the adjacent keys are activated as well as the key itself. I've tried various techniques I've read about to correct the problem such as removing power from the laptop for an extended period of time and installing new bios drivers but nothing seems to work. From the information I can gather this is a common problem with this model of Dell laptop. What is the best way to correct this problem. Will replacing the keyboard correct this problem or is there some other problem causing the malfunction?

BUT when I go into an application like Word and either hit the function key or combine it with the Alt, Ctrl, or Shift key, I still get the default action of the Funciton key. For example, in Word, the Alt-F9 combination is used to display field codes. When I do that, however, I get the Control Panel popup. Similarly, in a browser, I should be able to hit the F12 key and get the Developers pane at the bottom of the screen. But instead in IE, Chrome, and Firefox, I get a My Computer popup.

I know it's normally simple to activate the Turbo boost on the processor of all Lenovo Laptop .
There's no Intel Turbo Boost function in the BIOS (i have not tried to update the BIOS, not to loose the warranty). There' are no installed software on the laptop or the task manager. As my processor is a new series 4, I can't neither setup the Intel processor tool to check if i'm actually already at the top capacity of the processor's frequency.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI bought a new Lenovo G510 laptop. I downloaded Windows 8.1 from Microsoft DreamSpark, and burned ISO image on a DVD disc. When I try to install it on my laptop, I receive an error (it might be wrong translated):

A media driver your computer needs is missing. This could be a DVD, USB, or Hard disk driver. If you have a CD, DVD, or USB flash drive with the driver on it, please insert it now.
Note: If the installation media for Windows in the DVD drive or on a USB drive, you can safely remove it for this step.
I already tried changing the following options in BIOS but no effect:
Configuration tab -> SATA Controller Mode from AHCI to Compatible
Boot tab -> Boot Mode from UEFI to Legacy Support
Boot tab -> Boot Priority from UEFI First to Legacy First
Also, I tried to insert CD with drivers which was in the box, but - of course - no appropiate drivers were found.
What happened? How am I supposed to install a Windows 8.1? What should I try?
I bought a Lenovo G510 notebook, I installed Win7 PRO 64bit. Everything is working fine except the video card, wich is AMD Radeon R5 M230. In the control panel/device manager: the video card not working code 43.installed a lot of drivers, but nothing work. I tried to install the intel video driver but its not working either, during the installation I get a message: my computer not have the minimum configuration to install this driver. ???
Every driver I use, I get from the Lenovos official page for G510 notebooks.
The notebook configuration is:
Intel Core I5 4200M, CPU 2,50GH
4GB Ram
WIN7 64bit Service Pack 1
AMD Radeom R5 M230 VGA
Because G510 wasn't really Windows 7 compatible, I decided to upgrade to Windows 8.1. But after the upgrade, there's no more Bluetooth. When I run Bluetooth setup from drivers DVD, it doesn't install because it can't find required device. Also at tjhe Device Manager, it doesn't show anything related to Bluetooth.
What happened to Bluetooth and how can I get it back?
