I need the functions keys to act like F1-F12 instead of the various operations they represent. How do I change them back to the legacy functions?
View 9 RepliesI recently purchased an Ideapad P400, and I have noticed that the default for the keys where F1 and F2, etc. usually are, are now the mute and volume buttons. To access the F1, F2....F12 keys, you now have to press Fn + your desired F key.
While I understand many people probably find this useful, I play several games where these keys are essential, and it makes playing the games nearly impossible to play if you have to hold down the Fn key in addition to the desired F key. So my question is, is it possible to reverse the Function keys? I would much rather press Fn + F1 to mute than have to press press Fn + F1 to access F1.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI've had my IdeaPad Notebook P500 for over a year, and rarely had an issue with it. Today, I accidently touched the F11 key, which happens to be the "Brightness minus" key.
Immediately, the screen went very dim, to the point where it actually hurts my eyes to be typing this.
I can adjust the brightness sliders up and down on the screen, using both the F11/F12 keys and the slider box available from the "Brightness" selection under "Settings". Even though the sliders go up and down, the screen stays the same very dark level.
Windows 8 64-bit is my OS.
I have uninstalled and re-installed the Intel HD driver.
I have shut down the laptop and turned it back on while holding the F12 (Brightness plus) button. It was useless, though.
I have rebooted several times.
Windows did an update today, and now my pc won't run on battery power. The battery icon is just empty and says plugged in and not charging. This is the first time I've encountered this problem. When I unplug it, it immediately dies.

The sound will stay on for 5-10 minutes when I start it up or put it to sleep and then wake it up. After that, the sound will just quit working? I'm using Lenovo Ideapad P500 for 16 months now. Windows 8.1.I've had this message saying "display driver stopped responding and has recovered" while on startup on my notification area. It's been quite a some time I have seen this messsage during startups. And, my laptop seems more slow during startup. I've tried "sfc/scannow" but the system seems fine. I did Disk cleanup and optimization regularly. No third-party software installed.
My laptop heats up. Its working fine not too hot during Morning and Evening, but heats up high during day time. I'm not using laptop cooler now, but I've ordered one. My laptop is getting old.
I have just bought a new W540 and it's almost impossible to work with common software packages that heavily use F1-F12. Every time I want to use the F1-F12 keys, I have to press also the Fn key. For me this is a problematic change from my previous T510 machine...

My laptop has a keyboard where i have to use the FN key to use the function keys at the top, instead of having to press the FN key to use the action keys. ive been looking everywhere for a way to make it so i dont have to press the FN key to use my function keys, i looked at the bios but i dont see an option to disable the action keys, nor can i find an option anywhere elce in my laptop to set it like that, id even embrace an option to go into the registry to swap the on/off signal of the FN key.

I recently downgraded my G710 from Windows 8 (which it came with), to Windows 7. The only issue I've noticed is that it does not display anything on screen when you use the function keys, such as the volume up or down, or bright ness up or down. The keys work, but it would be nice to see on screen that my volume is set at 2% vs say 100% when I'm turning it up or down.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a problem, normally I press Fn and F5 to bring up the window to enable/disable Wireless Lan and Bluetooth. But it's suddenly stopped working and I cannot switch on my Wireless Lan.
This is on IdeaPad Y580 running Windows 7.
1. When I press Fn F5 no window opens.
2. When I press Fn F6 my track pad is enabled/disabled as normal, although I do not see the notification on screen.
3. When I press the Fn and volume or brightness controls, they work perfectly, but again I do not notification on screen, the bars showing level of volume or brightness.
4. Also the One Touch Recovery and One Key Theater buttons are not working. But the audio Mute button is working.
5. I have uninstalled the Lenovo Energy Management software and reinstalled it but no difference.
6. I have checked the BIOS and Wireless Lan is enabled.
7. I also saw that in Task Manager I cannot see utility.exe running.
I've bought Lenovo M490s notebook one week ago without OS. I've installed Windows 7 Professional x64 retail.First of all I could not find software that controls Function keys. After installing every driver and software from support page (M490s) my function keys just doesnt work except Fn+F1 sleep, Fn+F2 turn off the screen, Fn+F6 disable touchpad and play buttons. Also no information was displaying on the screen after pressing such buttons - no volume and brightness level.
After doing some research I've found and installed Hotkey Features Integration from Lenovo M490 (without S) support page. Every function key is started to work, information on the screen also begin to display (volume and brightness level).Now I spotted a huge problem, after 3 or 4 hibernation volume and brightness keys (fn+up,down,left,right) just stopping to work!!! Fn+F1-F12 combinations are working normal. Then after reboot brightness and volume keys are working again!!
I open this post to report a brightness problem on Lenovo Z500 Ideapad. Yesterday I've upgraded to OS Windows 8.1 and when I adjusted the screen brightness it goes off, and brightness adjust function doesn't works. I've solved my problem reinstalling the Intel video drivers, downloaded from Lenovo Driver Support.
It seems that Windows 8.1 upgrade disables video drivers.
I have a brand new IdeaPad S210 (model 20257) with a UK keyboard. Basically, the backslash ('') and hash ('#') keys don't work. I tried switching to US keyboard layout as a test, but they don't work there either. Everything else seems fine.
Is this fixable by updating the drivers or something? Or do I have to return the whole machine as faulty?...

But the function keys are not working properly. The volume one work but no OSD. Contrast, and monitor selection one since like it is not working at all.

I have an ideapad p500, and for a while now the battery indicator in windows has said "60% available (plugged in, not charging)".
I have upgraded the battery firmware with the available download on this site, but its still not charging above 60%.
I have a Lenovo Ideapad p500 Touch. I recently upgraded my router to an AC1900 Router, and with it i wanted to update the internal wifi on the Lenovo. I purchased an Intel 7260 AC Dual Band with Bluetooth seen HERE . Install was pretty straight forward, seeing how im a IT Tech. Where I had an issue is with the drivers and getting bluetooth properly set up. The wifi part works without an issue. I can't seem to get bluetooth to work at all. When i go to device manager I see bluetooth but only if I select to view "hidden Devices". Im running Win 8.1 64x, Ive tried installing the drivers from intel, but it never seems to actually install the bluetooth driver. I don't get the icon in the system tray.

BUT when I go into an application like Word and either hit the function key or combine it with the Alt, Ctrl, or Shift key, I still get the default action of the Funciton key. For example, in Word, the Alt-F9 combination is used to display field codes. When I do that, however, I get the Control Panel popup. Similarly, in a browser, I should be able to hit the F12 key and get the Developers pane at the bottom of the screen. But instead in IE, Chrome, and Firefox, I get a My Computer popup.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI just purchased a new E545, which has the unusual keyboard layout that I like -- the Control key inside of the special Fn key. Of course, it seems Lenovo has gone and switched the way the function keys operate so that now you have to press the Fn key to get the F-keys.
How can I swap the function keys operation so that I need the Fn key to operate the PC and media controls?
My p500 shows that it is at 40% and that it IS charging (most of the other stops states that it isn't charging). It could be that windows thinks the battery is charging, but it obviously isnt because when I pull the power plug, the laptop immediatley shuts off. Obviously the battery doesn't have a charge.
I got the latest version of the lenovo energy manager, but that didn't do anything. Also, I don't recall the enery manager being there. I am almost certain that it was not there prior to windows 8.1 upgrade.
Device Manager shows all of the hardware with no missing drivers/unknown hardware.
I have been running the battery conditioner which is suppose to run the battery down and then charge it back up. That has been going on for a few hours and it is still at 40%, where it has been stuck from the start.
