Windows did an update today, and now my pc won't run on battery power. The battery icon is just empty and says plugged in and not charging. This is the first time I've encountered this problem. When I unplug it, it immediately dies.

I've had my IdeaPad Notebook P500 for over a year, and rarely had an issue with it. Today, I accidently touched the F11 key, which happens to be the "Brightness minus" key.
Immediately, the screen went very dim, to the point where it actually hurts my eyes to be typing this.
I can adjust the brightness sliders up and down on the screen, using both the F11/F12 keys and the slider box available from the "Brightness" selection under "Settings". Even though the sliders go up and down, the screen stays the same very dark level.
Windows 8 64-bit is my OS.
I have uninstalled and re-installed the Intel HD driver.
I have shut down the laptop and turned it back on while holding the F12 (Brightness plus) button. It was useless, though.
I have rebooted several times.
With my Lenovo P500 IdeaPad I CAN connect via wifi but NOT with ethernet cable. It just stopped working one day. Windows 7 device manager no longer recognizes device. I assume I need to replace the ethernet card. True? If so, is this possible or is it part of the motherboard?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm using Lenovo Ideapad P500 for 16 months now. Windows 8.1.I've had this message saying "display driver stopped responding and has recovered" while on startup on my notification area. It's been quite a some time I have seen this messsage during startups. And, my laptop seems more slow during startup. I've tried "sfc/scannow" but the system seems fine. I did Disk cleanup and optimization regularly. No third-party software installed.
My laptop heats up. Its working fine not too hot during Morning and Evening, but heats up high during day time. I'm not using laptop cooler now, but I've ordered one. My laptop is getting old.
Shortly after I received my laptop, I installed a third-party battery monitor, BatteryCare, to monitor the battery in the laptop because I'd used it on previous software and liked having a second source of information. I've been running the laptop like a desktop for the last few months though and havent had to pay any attention to batter life, since the thing is always plugged in so I decided to delete BatteryCare.
The uninstall went fine, but when I restarted the computer I noticed that the icon displaying remaining battery life did not reappear. I went digging to see if the uninstallation might have uninstalled a driver but I couldn't find anything indicating a problem like this. I still have the Energy Monitor - just nothing showing up much juice is left in the battery.
Any pointers on what drivers/devices I might have to reinstall to get power monitor icon back. I checked the Driver Matrix, here, but I couldn't find anything about solution. Should I just reinstall the Energy Management utility?
I have an ideapad p500, and for a while now the battery indicator in windows has said "60% available (plugged in, not charging)".
I have upgraded the battery firmware with the available download on this site, but its still not charging above 60%.
My p500 shows that it is at 40% and that it IS charging (most of the other stops states that it isn't charging). It could be that windows thinks the battery is charging, but it obviously isnt because when I pull the power plug, the laptop immediatley shuts off. Obviously the battery doesn't have a charge.
I got the latest version of the lenovo energy manager, but that didn't do anything. Also, I don't recall the enery manager being there. I am almost certain that it was not there prior to windows 8.1 upgrade.
Device Manager shows all of the hardware with no missing drivers/unknown hardware.
I have been running the battery conditioner which is suppose to run the battery down and then charge it back up. That has been going on for a few hours and it is still at 40%, where it has been stuck from the start.
I have just received this laptop. I followed the instructions out of the box, installing the battery, then connecting the power. The battery started charging that first time, but after that, any time I tried reconnecting the A/C power supply, the laptop would not recognize the adapter and I am not able to charge my battery.
I have tried the following steps:
1. Shutting down the computer, removing the battery, and starting the computer from the A/C power supply. The computer will not recognize the A/C power supply to turn on the computer.
2. Updating all the power management drivers. Everything was already installed properly.
3. Using the Lenovo Energy Management battery gauge. I must have the A/C power supply plugged in to use it, but the computer still won't recognize it.
4. Held down the power button for 30-40 seconds then reset the BIOS to default settings. No change
5. Tested my outlets and connections between my AC adapter cords. Everything is working properly.
There is one way that I can get the computer to recognize the AC adapter, and that involves all of these steps shown below, but when I unplug the AC adapter I am right back to the beginning, and I have to redo the whole process. I have just received this laptop and I am quite sure that you shouldn't have to go through this process every time you want to recharge the battery, or use your computer while only powered by the AC adapter.
Steps I have to take to recharge my battery:
A. Disconnect the A/C power supply.
B. Shut down the computer.
C. Remove the battery
D. Connect the A/C power supply
E. Start the computer.
F. Uninstall all battery drivers that are labeled Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery (which come back every time).
G. Shut the computer down.
H. Disconnect the A/C power supply.
I. Insert the battery.
J. Insert the A/C power supply.
K. Start the computer.
That is the ONLY way I have gotten my computer to recognize the A/C power supply. I know the power supply is functional, but why I have to go through all of those steps for the laptop to recognize it.
My z500 cannot boot up without power cable plugged in. Usually,a few seconds after I saw the lenovo logo,the system will suddenly shut down just like the battery was removed.however,if I connect powercable to the laptop and power on,everything is fine,I can enter windows 8,or ubuntu,after I enter OS,I can disconnect the power cable without any problems.the battery is healthy and can last for more than 2 hours.
So far I tried the following methods:
1.update BIOS
2.update battery firmware
3.reset BIOS
none of them worked for me....
I recently just received my Ideapad y510p laptop back, and I unplugged it and the battery dropped to 60% but when I try to charge my laptop, it'll just stay at 60%. The battery says its plugged in but it won't charge.

The laptop just powered off when I unplugged the AC, with battery installed. And of course I cannot boot the laptop without AC now. I installed power manager, and it says no battery installed. The battery worked fine until yesterday. When I plugged AC in, the meter shows it is charging, but the power volume is not going up. Is it a battery failure?

View 8 Replies View RelatedRecently I've been having problems with the battery discharging while plugged in while playing some games (Civilization V and Sniper Elite V2 are the ones I've noticed the most). In the case of Civilization V, it also causes the game to lag to the point of being unplayable. The battery notification when scrolled over says "plugged in, not charging" and does so indefinitely until the computer shuts off from lack of power. It also decreases the battery life to just about an hour and fifteen minutes when discharging like this.
because it doesn't seem to happen with every single game I own. Sims 3, Saint's Row the Third, Skyrim, etc. do not suffer from this problem. I've already tried uninstalling the games with this problem and reinstalling them, but that doesn't seem to work.
I bought my lenovo z400 ideapad beginning of April this year and just about two days ago it just turned off and though I plugged it in later it started saying 'plugged in but not charging'. What do you think is the problem?
Furthermore I lost the receipt ( the sales receipt) but there is still the model/series no. , is the warranty still on?
I own an Ideapad Z-500 notebook with Win 8.1 pro.
My battery is at locked at 59% of charge and even if i connect the power plug it doesn't charge any more.

It worked for then, but now I have the same problem once again and firmware update doesnt work anymore because my firmware is already up to date.
I've just purhased the above for my son who is in hospital having chemo at present. Very disappointed with the battery that is only lasting for approx 1.5 hours. I have it set to a balanced use and so far the laptop has only been used for surfing, etc.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a Lenovo Ideapad p500 Touch. I recently upgraded my router to an AC1900 Router, and with it i wanted to update the internal wifi on the Lenovo. I purchased an Intel 7260 AC Dual Band with Bluetooth seen HERE . Install was pretty straight forward, seeing how im a IT Tech. Where I had an issue is with the drivers and getting bluetooth properly set up. The wifi part works without an issue. I can't seem to get bluetooth to work at all. When i go to device manager I see bluetooth but only if I select to view "hidden Devices". Im running Win 8.1 64x, Ive tried installing the drivers from intel, but it never seems to actually install the bluetooth driver. I don't get the icon in the system tray.

I recently purchased a lenovo p500 ideapad from bestbuy around 3 weeks ago. just on thursday, i press the f11 key to lower the brightness and it imidiatley went very dim. i cannot bring the brightness back up even tho the button and the computer says the brightness is all the way up. the screen is at the dimmest setting possible. i am running windows 8 and i have checked the drivers to see if they are updated and they are but i cannot bring the brightness back up. this is very frustrating.

Sometimes when I leave my Lenovo u430 touch alone (with full battery), and sometimes it will just power off without me doing anything. It even happens occasionally when I dont use it for a few minutes while im working in front of it.
It is definitely a power-off problem for me, rather than hibernate/sleep as my programs are no longer running when I turn it back on.
Hasnt caused any lasting damage as yet but am worried it could happen while im working on something important.
I've looked at the other threads and tried removing the battery while the laptop is off for 30-40 seconds but it doesn't run because it's not getting power from the charger at all.
The laptop is a couple years old and the hinges on both sides have been pried off (can provide pics) but I never had problems until now - I plug the charger in but it won't charge and even if I pop the battery out it STILL doesn't charge!
One night, I had to set the charger upright in order for it to charge. Today I had to set the bulky and heavy part of the charger higher above the laptop in order for it to charge. Now, how to get this thing to work because proping the charger upright or higher than the laptop isn't working anymore!
I've noticed a couple weeks ago when I was visiting my parents that the adapter emits a beeping sound - notice that I said the adapter NOT the laptop. If I unplug it the beeping sound fades. The beeping sound comes from the adapter and when I unplug the cord going from my laptop to the adapter you can hear the beeping sound fade away from the prongs that conect the adapter to the laptop (not the prongs that plug into the outlet).
Like I said before it doesn't matter if I've plugged it into an outlet with OR without the battery in it, the laptop does not receive any power from the adapter or recharges.
