Lenovo P/Y/Z Series :: Z400 IdeaPad Battery Plugged In But Not Charging
Aug 16, 2013
I bought my lenovo z400 ideapad beginning of April this year and just about two days ago it just turned off and though I plugged it in later it started saying 'plugged in but not charging'. What do you think is the problem?
Furthermore I lost the receipt ( the sales receipt) but there is still the model/series no. , is the warranty still on?

About 2 weeks ago, my z400 automatically updated from windows 8 to windows 8.1. i have been read reviews on whether or not to restore my computer to its original state or continue with 8.1.i have noticed several malfunctions in my unit after the upgrade and quite frankly i am really hesitant on continuing with 8.1.

I recently just received my Ideapad y510p laptop back, and I unplugged it and the battery dropped to 60% but when I try to charge my laptop, it'll just stay at 60%. The battery says its plugged in but it won't charge.

I installed windows 8.1 pro with WMC on my lenovo z510 laptop and installed energy management driver from laptop's drivers dvd. After I installed LEM (lenovo energy management) i started the gauge reset process for my laptop.
After some hours i saw nothing is happening so i made a mistake and cancelled gauge reset in the management software and after that when i restarted my laptop my battery icon says PLUGGED IN CHARGING but it just remians on 0% !!!!!
Problem solved by for example uninstall and reinstalling MICROSOFT ACPI. but notice that i reinstalled my windows 8.1 ! i changed in to windows 7 ! again changed it to windows 8.1 !!!
I updated the energy management software ! nothing happened !
Then try to restart to BIOS menu and from there restore BIOS defaults ! but i couldn't enter BIOS from any ways ! from pressing F1 ! from the way based on windows 8.1 and UEFI frimware settings (somthing like that) ! from none of them i could enter the BIOS!
So now my battery is still facing the problem !you know that it's not easy to unattatch and reattatch z510 battery that is internal ! so at last i must say that i've checked a lot of ways and now my battery is still having problem !

I had the same problem a few months ago and I run run the "Battery Firmware Update" i found here: [URL] ....
It worked for then, but now I have the same problem once again and firmware update doesnt work anymore because my firmware is already up to date.

I would like to ask about the Lenovo Energy Management software bundled with my Z400. Regarding the Energy Management > Battery > "Optimized Battery Health" in particular. When the battery charges until 60%, does it internally disconnect the charger from my battery? The Power icon in the System Tray says "Plugged in, not charging". Or does the software stops the charging until 60%, and when it lowers the software allows it to recharge again? I'm worried about getting my battery worn out immediately, as I leave my charger plugged in most of the time.

I have a problem with my battery on a brand new E430. I've used it for 1 week w/o problems and now it simply doesn't want to charge the battery anymore. It is stuck on 48% and I have a message saying "plugged in, not charging".
EDIT: I run Win 8 (64 bit) - absolutely everything is up to date, including BIOS.

Earlier today, my Yoga 3 Pro decided to stop charging. When plugged in, the battery continues to drain as if it was not plugged in. I have tested the A/C adapter by plugging in my phone with a micro USB and that worked fine, and the USB charging slot works when my wireless mouse is plugged into it, so I assume it must be the strange Y3P USB cable that is not working.
Would a normal USB to USB cable work for charging my laptop? If not, how do I replace that "kink" USB cable?

My z500 cannot boot up without power cable plugged in. Usually,a few seconds after I saw the lenovo logo, the system will suddenly shut down just like the battery was removed.however,if I connect powercable to the laptop and power on,everything is fine,I can enter windows 8,or ubuntu, after I enter OS,I can disconnect the power cable without any problems.the battery is healthy and can last for more than 2 hours.
So far I tried the following methods:
1.update BIOS
2.update battery firmware
3.reset BIOS
none of them worked for me....

Have a brand new X1 Carbon running windows 7. It originally came with Windows 8 but had to downgrade to run a necessary work application (which could be the problem). My battery never exceeds 50% even when plugged in for extended periods. Also, I am not seeing any of the "Rapid Charge" that was promoted.

So in the past couple of days I've noticed that my Y570 isn't charging properly.
With normal use such as internet browsing, facebook, e-mail, etc. there is no problem. However I often use my computer to game stuff like Don't Starve, League, CSGO, etc. So I'm thinking the problems is something to due with heat.

I have had my Dell Inspiron 1525 for around two years. For the past month, when my power supply is plugged in, the battery does not charge. It has been stuck on 3% and will automatically shut down when unplugged.
I have seen that this is a very common problem, however, when hovering over the battery icon it says: plugged in, CHARGING, where as all of the other posts that I have seen say: plugged in, NOT charging.
I have tried taking the battery out and restarting but this did not work. I also drained my battery and tried to recharge but again, this did not work. My initial thought is that I may need a new battery but I just wanted to check first.

Windows did an update today, and now my pc won't run on battery power. The battery icon is just empty and says plugged in and not charging. This is the first time I've encountered this problem. When I unplug it, it immediately dies.

I have a Ideapad Y560 laptop, I had some issue with the battery yesterday. It worked fine until I shutdown the laptop last night. The laptop just powered off when I unplugged the AC, with battery installed. And of course I cannot boot the laptop without AC now. I installed power manager, and it says no battery installed. The battery worked fine until yesterday. When I plugged AC in, the meter shows it is charging, but the power volume is not going up. Is it a battery failure?

how the Intel HD Graphics 4000 is covering all my needs perfectly for the moment, I would prefer to disable the NVIDIA dedicated GPU in my Lenovo Z400 for a while.I've already went to the control panel and set the Global Settings for integrated but it still turns on (for a very small amount of time) every now and then.
From my research I would guess I would do it by: (Windows 8)Disabling the "NVIDIA GeForce GT 635M" driver in the Device ManagerSwitching from "Switchable Graphics" to "UMA Graphics" in the UEFI settingsI would like to know/confirm if:"UMA Graphics" means the Intel HD Graphics 4000 in my caseThe NVIDIA GPU will not actually turn on and generate heat/consume energy.
Laptop: ideapad Z400
OS: Windows 8.1 (64 bit)
CPU: Intel i7-3520m (w/ Intel HD 4000)
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce 635m
RAM: 8GB @ 800 Mhz

Recently I've been having problems with the battery discharging while plugged in while playing some games (Civilization V and Sniper Elite V2 are the ones I've noticed the most). In the case of Civilization V, it also causes the game to lag to the point of being unplayable. The battery notification when scrolled over says "plugged in, not charging" and does so indefinitely until the computer shuts off from lack of power. It also decreases the battery life to just about an hour and fifteen minutes when discharging like this.
because it doesn't seem to happen with every single game I own. Sims 3, Saint's Row the Third, Skyrim, etc. do not suffer from this problem. I've already tried uninstalling the games with this problem and reinstalling them, but that doesn't seem to work.

i have my computer (win 7) set to high performance. I also keep it plugged it but it hasnt been charging my battery, its down to 35%. Does it have some sort of a cycle function where it waits until the battery is drained and then charges it back up? I dont want it to do this because when i need to use it on the go i would like a full battery.

I've got an HP Compaq nw8240 and when I move the mouse over the battery icon it says Plugged In, Not Charging. It only shows a 40% charge too, and if I unplug the AC adapter the battery will drain and then recharge back to 40% again.
I'm running the latest version of Windows 7 also.
I've also tried updating the BIOS but when I download the file from HP's support site it and run it all it does is restart my computer and nothing changes.

Shortly after I received my laptop, I installed a third-party battery monitor, BatteryCare, to monitor the battery in the laptop because I'd used it on previous software and liked having a second source of information. I've been running the laptop like a desktop for the last few months though and havent had to pay any attention to batter life, since the thing is always plugged in so I decided to delete BatteryCare.
The uninstall went fine, but when I restarted the computer I noticed that the icon displaying remaining battery life did not reappear. I went digging to see if the uninstallation might have uninstalled a driver but I couldn't find anything indicating a problem like this. I still have the Energy Monitor - just nothing showing up much juice is left in the battery.
Any pointers on what drivers/devices I might have to reinstall to get power monitor icon back. I checked the Driver Matrix, here, but I couldn't find anything about solution. Should I just reinstall the Energy Management utility?

I've just purhased the above for my son who is in hospital having chemo at present. Very disappointed with the battery that is only lasting for approx 1.5 hours. I have it set to a balanced use and so far the laptop has only been used for surfing, etc.
