I've just purhased the above for my son who is in hospital having chemo at present. Very disappointed with the battery that is only lasting for approx 1.5 hours. I have it set to a balanced use and so far the laptop has only been used for surfing, etc.
View 2 RepliesI'm trying to Install Debian GNU/Linux on my Windows 8 Ideapad Z710, and I can't even get my laptop to boot from external media. From the InsydeH20 Setup Utility, I've so far disabled Secure Boot, set Boot Mode to UEFI, enabled USB Boot, enabled PXE Boot to LAN, and set my EFI boot order to 1) EFI Network 0 for IPv4, 2) EFI Network 0 for IPv6, then 3) Windows Boot Manager (no other options). I'm not actually trying to boot from a network, I just want to boot from the onboard DVD drive or my USB DVD drive. When I boot with these settings, I get the error: EFI Network 0 for IPv4 (...) boot failed, then a similar one for IPv6, then it boots to Windows. Why can't I boot from DVD or USB?
Another thing I've tried is setting Boot Mode to Legacy Support and Boot Priority to Legacy First (with Secure Boot disabled) which results in my laptop booting to straight to Windows even when USB ODD is first in the boot order.
I would like to restoring my PC but I cannot create restoring date earlier than 7 days.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI just got my new Z710 today, and if the screen tilts too far back (not excessively far, maybe a few degrees past 90), the screen will turn black. If I leave the screen in this position, the keyboard lights will turn off too. Once I tilt the screen forward and click or hit a key, I'm greeted by the lock screen, and have to enter my password again.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI bought this Z710 new but I get a message saying "The battery is unauthorized". Also the battery indicator stays at "0% available (plugged in, not charging)." If I unplug the power cord, the laptop powers off cold. It has always been this way. This is a problem for me because I want to upgrade my BIOS but I can't because I get an error stating "Battry is too low (0 < 30 ). Please charge your battery to 30%." when I try.
How do I get this laptop to start interacting with its battery? I have already tried taking it out and putting it in again and rebooting.
I bought Z500 last week and I am facing problem with the battery life. I charged the laptop for 12 hr for the first time. The battery discharges within 2 hr every time. I just browse internet or watch movies and the battery life is far below the expectation.
There are two power plans - Balanced and Power saver and I do not see any difference in either. What is wrong with my laptop battery.
I recently just received my Ideapad y510p laptop back, and I unplugged it and the battery dropped to 60% but when I try to charge my laptop, it'll just stay at 60%. The battery says its plugged in but it won't charge.

The laptop just powered off when I unplugged the AC, with battery installed. And of course I cannot boot the laptop without AC now. I installed power manager, and it says no battery installed. The battery worked fine until yesterday. When I plugged AC in, the meter shows it is charging, but the power volume is not going up. Is it a battery failure?
View 9 Replies View RelatedRecently I've been having problems with the battery discharging while plugged in while playing some games (Civilization V and Sniper Elite V2 are the ones I've noticed the most). In the case of Civilization V, it also causes the game to lag to the point of being unplayable. The battery notification when scrolled over says "plugged in, not charging" and does so indefinitely until the computer shuts off from lack of power. It also decreases the battery life to just about an hour and fifteen minutes when discharging like this.
because it doesn't seem to happen with every single game I own. Sims 3, Saint's Row the Third, Skyrim, etc. do not suffer from this problem. I've already tried uninstalling the games with this problem and reinstalling them, but that doesn't seem to work.

View 10 Replies View RelatedShortly after I received my laptop, I installed a third-party battery monitor, BatteryCare, to monitor the battery in the laptop because I'd used it on previous software and liked having a second source of information. I've been running the laptop like a desktop for the last few months though and havent had to pay any attention to batter life, since the thing is always plugged in so I decided to delete BatteryCare.
The uninstall went fine, but when I restarted the computer I noticed that the icon displaying remaining battery life did not reappear. I went digging to see if the uninstallation might have uninstalled a driver but I couldn't find anything indicating a problem like this. I still have the Energy Monitor - just nothing showing up much juice is left in the battery.
Any pointers on what drivers/devices I might have to reinstall to get power monitor icon back. I checked the Driver Matrix, here, but I couldn't find anything about solution. Should I just reinstall the Energy Management utility?
I own an Ideapad Z-500 notebook with Win 8.1 pro.
My battery is at locked at 59% of charge and even if i connect the power plug it doesn't charge any more.

Recently I've had to start using the battery more, from 100% charge showing if I unplug it from the power, it immidietly drops to 90% but shows I have about 2 hours of play. Is this just a dud battery. I have had dell previously and my battery was fantastic, even 3 years after buying it.

I hope there is a relatively simple fix for this or I am in deep trouble. Pages slow to open, videos constantly buffering. Multi-tasking is out of the question.
View 8 Replies View RelatedMy Z710 (purchased in April 2014) makes a horrendous buzzing noise when reading a DVD. It appears to be just the DVD faceplate. Oh, and the eject button doesn't work either... so you have to eject through the windows file mgr device control. Neither problem is earth shattering/fatal, but bugs me enough to write this post. Does Lenovo ship a replacement drive in cases like this? I wouldn't dare send in the entire laptop just to have the DVD drive replaced.
BTW, installed Win7x64 on a samsung pro SSD, and this thing is very snappy now. Love the laptop so far with the exception of the track pad which is just about unbearable.

I have Windows 7 Ultimate 64 and why this doesn't work.
The touchpad on/off function does not persist through system lock/unlock. For instance, with the touchpad disabled, locking my computer will re-enable the touchpad (as will signing back in to my computer account if I take the trouble to disable the touchpad before entering my password).
I permenantly use an external mouse, want to leave my touchpad disabled as it interferes with typing. Thus, I see this as a bug. Is there any way to change this behavior short of a bug report? Perhaps some buried setting?
Running Win 8.1, user is account password protected, but not linked to a Windows live account.
Edit: Laptop has a Synaptics touchpad.
Solution: Solved by going into Control Panel -> Mouse Settings -> Change Mouse settings -> Device Settings -> Settings (Device needs to be enabled for this to be accessible) -> Advance Tab -> Touchpad Status
Under touchpad status, setting was changed to 'keep previous enable/disable status'.
I have problem with my battery. When i unplug AC power laptop is not started. It's running only when the AC is plugged in. Mabe it's a problem with windows 8.1.

Then formated and installed Win7 Pro 64bit. i managed to get everything else in working order except i would like to occasionally turn off the touchpad. i use a mouse for games and such and the hot key doesnt work to turn it off. BTW every other hot key does what its intended to do.
