Lenovo P/Y/Z Series :: IdeaPad Z500 Brightness Adjust Function Doesn't Works - Windows 8.1
Oct 7, 2013I open this post to report a brightness problem on Lenovo Z500 Ideapad. Yesterday I've upgraded to OS Windows 8.1 and when I adjusted the screen brightness it goes off, and brightness adjust function doesn't works. I've solved my problem reinstalling the Intel video drivers, downloaded from Lenovo Driver Support.
It seems that Windows 8.1 upgrade disables video drivers.

Feb 4, 2015I own an Ideapad Z-500 notebook running Win 8.1.After updating Intel graphic adapter from Windows Update the screen brightness adjust key (F11 and F12) stops working and I cannot adjust my scrren brightness.I have to uninstall it and disable Windows update to keep using my laptop.

Oct 26, 2014I'm trying to Install Debian GNU/Linux on my Windows 8 Ideapad Z710, and I can't even get my laptop to boot from external media. From the InsydeH20 Setup Utility, I've so far disabled Secure Boot, set Boot Mode to UEFI, enabled USB Boot, enabled PXE Boot to LAN, and set my EFI boot order to 1) EFI Network 0 for IPv4, 2) EFI Network 0 for IPv6, then 3) Windows Boot Manager (no other options). I'm not actually trying to boot from a network, I just want to boot from the onboard DVD drive or my USB DVD drive. When I boot with these settings, I get the error: EFI Network 0 for IPv4 (...) boot failed, then a similar one for IPv6, then it boots to Windows. Why can't I boot from DVD or USB?
Another thing I've tried is setting Boot Mode to Legacy Support and Boot Priority to Legacy First (with Secure Boot disabled) which results in my laptop booting to straight to Windows even when USB ODD is first in the boot order.

If I leave the screen in this position, the keyboard lights will turn off too. Once I tilt the screen forward and click or hit a key, I'm greeted by the lock screen, and have to enter my password again.

I've checked all drivers, tried uninstalling and reinstalling lenovo energy management, and I've still got nothing. I've stopped short of a factory reset because that's super annoying having set everything up and then a couple weeks after purchase have to do it again.

Nov 24, 2012I have a new z500 that I've downgraded to Windows 7 64bit. For the most part I have everything working. I accidentally hit the brightness + (yes, +) and it instantly dimmed the screen to where it is barely viewable. It seems that hitting that one key decreased the brightness to the minimum amount. I've rebooted, looked for a setting in the BIOS, hit the Brightness +/- and can't increase the brightness. It is interesting because the other hot keys work correctly. I've even upped the brightness in the Control Panel, but nothing seems to work. The screen is extremely dim whenever the machine is powered on (including the BIOS), not just in Windows. I tried a lot of intel chipset drivers, the available Intel HD 4000 drivers in Win8 and win7 too, but nothing working. How to up the brightness?

This is working, but I dont know if it is a problem for my system becouse of incompatibility with the battery of Z710.

Jan 10, 2013Another problem on my Lenovo Thinkpad L520: After installing the Lenovo Power Management Driver, I can no longer adjust the LCD brightness by using the FN+DEL/POS1 keys. Immediately after adjusting the brightness, it gets reverted to its old value, set in the Power Management software.
I tried the Windows 7 driver (1.65.05.21) and the WIndows XP/7/8 driver (1.66.0.22), both with the same result.
This is really annoying and I am very frustrated with Lenovo right now, since this is not the only problem I am having with the laptop.

Feb 27, 2015I am having an issue with my Acer Aspire V5-431P-4653 running Windows 8.1, namely, I cannot adjust the screen brightness at all. It seems to arbitrarily select a brightness level upon start up and from that point I cannot change it via the Fn and directional keys or through the control panel power settings. I have owned the laptop for a year and a half and this problem began roughly a week ago.
Of note, when I attempt to use the Fn and directional keys the brightness icon that pops up stays at the frozen brightness level - it does not move at all. In contrast, when I open the power settings and attempte to change the brightness from there, the brightness slider will move wherever I drag it, but the screen's brightness itself does not change. At startup the screen's brightness may be at full, minimum or somewhere in between - but regardless it will not adjust.

I want to upgrade my hardware by replacing my current hard disk with an Solid State Disk. The problem is that in windows 8 there is not any program except the OneKey Recovery which obviously it isn't a Microsoft's official recovery application (such as the one in Windows 7). If I create a disk with OneKey then is there any way to use it to install windows 8 on the new SSD disk? How the pc is gonna recognize a backup disk created by an application which is not installed on it?

1. In windows 8.1 recovery option on menu is displaying for UEFI firmware setting. ( I have installed windows 8.1 in legacy support mode in BIOS)
2. In BIOS setup (tapping F2 at the time of booting) no "Secure Boot Option" is displaying.

Dec 24, 2014I've bought a Lenovo IdeaPad Z50-75 ( with Free DOS ):
Bios Version: A4CN24WW (V 1.03)
I am trying to install Windows 8 but it just doesnt work. not matter if i allow secure boot or disable it. no matter if i choose from the "OS Optimized Defaults : [Win8 64bit]"
I changed the boot priority so that the DVD-Reader is on the highest place (1). Got a working Win8 DVD, also got win7 professional, but i'd rather install Windows 8.
Even though Win7 is okay too if it'll work then.
I don't know what to do other than switching around between all those options. and it doesn't work at all.
Whenever i start the laptop and choose to start with the DVD-Reader it lights up and nothing happens.

Feb 9, 2015Just purchased Z710 laptop. I am astonished at the poor performance while browsing the Internet. My 8 yr old Dell/XP outperforms this thing. I hope there is a relatively simple fix for this or I am in deep trouble. Pages slow to open, videos constantly buffering. Multi-tasking is out of the question.

Jan 2, 2015My Z710 (purchased in April 2014) makes a horrendous buzzing noise when reading a DVD. It appears to be just the DVD faceplate. Oh, and the eject button doesn't work either... so you have to eject through the windows file mgr device control. Neither problem is earth shattering/fatal, but bugs me enough to write this post. Does Lenovo ship a replacement drive in cases like this? I wouldn't dare send in the entire laptop just to have the DVD drive replaced.
BTW, installed Win7x64 on a samsung pro SSD, and this thing is very snappy now. Love the laptop so far with the exception of the track pad which is just about unbearable.
