Just purchased Z710 laptop. I am astonished at the poor performance while browsing the Internet. My 8 yr old Dell/XP outperforms this thing. I hope there is a relatively simple fix for this or I am in deep trouble. Pages slow to open, videos constantly buffering. Multi-tasking is out of the question.
I have a Studio XPS M1640 and I'm experiencing extremely slow internet browsing with firefox and ie. My SXPS has the Intel 5300 card, which I've read has problems such as dropouts and slow speeds. I'm also running Vista 64-bit, which I'm assuming could also be part of the problem. Web pages take way too long to load, but my download and upload speeds are the same as they would be if I plugged directly into my router. Has anyone else experienced slow browsing with their SXPS 16? I'd love it if someone could give me a solution to this.
out of the blue connecting to a server takes about 20-30 seconds. This problem remains, also the connections close by themselves. When I boot linux on this machine there is no problem. Other machines on the network have no problems. Connecting to these other machines with this laptop show the same results ->slow connection, difficult browsing. (the domain controller is a slack box - no machine restrictions are in order)
-Firewall is down for the occasion but no effect. -There were no recent updates. -It doesn't matter what interface I use wireless or Ethernet.
My guess is problem with samba. Restarting samba or restarting osx have no effect. Resolve.conf shows the right info and HTTP traffic is normal. I find reinstalling is no option. I want to know the problem and if there are more users with the same problem. OS: OSX 10.5.6
My Z710 (purchased in April 2014) makes a horrendous buzzing noise when reading a DVD. It appears to be just the DVD faceplate. Oh, and the eject button doesn't work either... so you have to eject through the windows file mgr device control. Neither problem is earth shattering/fatal, but bugs me enough to write this post. Does Lenovo ship a replacement drive in cases like this? I wouldn't dare send in the entire laptop just to have the DVD drive replaced.
BTW, installed Win7x64 on a samsung pro SSD, and this thing is very snappy now. Love the laptop so far with the exception of the track pad which is just about unbearable.
The touchpad on/off function does not persist through system lock/unlock. For instance, with the touchpad disabled, locking my computer will re-enable the touchpad (as will signing back in to my computer account if I take the trouble to disable the touchpad before entering my password).
I permenantly use an external mouse, want to leave my touchpad disabled as it interferes with typing. Thus, I see this as a bug. Is there any way to change this behavior short of a bug report? Perhaps some buried setting?
Running Win 8.1, user is account password protected, but not linked to a Windows live account.
Edit: Laptop has a Synaptics touchpad.
Solution: Solved by going into Control Panel -> Mouse Settings -> Change Mouse settings -> Device Settings -> Settings (Device needs to be enabled for this to be accessible) -> Advance Tab -> Touchpad Status
Under touchpad status, setting was changed to 'keep previous enable/disable status'.
I have problem with my battery. When i unplug AC power laptop is not started. It's running only when the AC is plugged in. Mabe it's a problem with windows 8.1.
I bought this Z710 new but I get a message saying "The battery is unauthorized". Also the battery indicator stays at "0% available (plugged in, not charging)." If I unplug the power cord, the laptop powers off cold. It has always been this way. This is a problem for me because I want to upgrade my BIOS but I can't because I get an error stating "Battry is too low (0 < 30 ). Please charge your battery to 30%." when I try.
How do I get this laptop to start interacting with its battery? I have already tried taking it out and putting it in again and rebooting.
Laptop just arrived! However, my N key doesn't work 4 out of 5 times. I have slowed my typing down so I can verify I am pressing the key firmly enough and I am. I have to press it multiple times for it to finally type the letter N.
I'm trying to Install Debian GNU/Linux on my Windows 8 Ideapad Z710, and I can't even get my laptop to boot from external media. From the InsydeH20 Setup Utility, I've so far disabled Secure Boot, set Boot Mode to UEFI, enabled USB Boot, enabled PXE Boot to LAN, and set my EFI boot order to 1) EFI Network 0 for IPv4, 2) EFI Network 0 for IPv6, then 3) Windows Boot Manager (no other options). I'm not actually trying to boot from a network, I just want to boot from the onboard DVD drive or my USB DVD drive. When I boot with these settings, I get the error: EFI Network 0 for IPv4 (...) boot failed, then a similar one for IPv6, then it boots to Windows. Why can't I boot from DVD or USB?
Another thing I've tried is setting Boot Mode to Legacy Support and Boot Priority to Legacy First (with Secure Boot disabled) which results in my laptop booting to straight to Windows even when USB ODD is first in the boot order.
i just got my z710 the other day. clone the drive (for a rainy day). Then formated and installed Win7 Pro 64bit. i managed to get everything else in working order except i would like to occasionally turn off the touchpad. i use a mouse for games and such and the hot key doesnt work to turn it off. BTW every other hot key does what its intended to do.
I recently purchased a Z710 with 8.1. Is there a way to get a physical or digital copy of my Windows OS in case I ever need to reinstall? OneKey cannot be a replacement for this?
I've just purhased the above for my son who is in hospital having chemo at present. Very disappointed with the battery that is only lasting for approx 1.5 hours. I have it set to a balanced use and so far the laptop has only been used for surfing, etc.
I just got my new Z710 today, and if the screen tilts too far back (not excessively far, maybe a few degrees past 90), the screen will turn black. If I leave the screen in this position, the keyboard lights will turn off too. Once I tilt the screen forward and click or hit a key, I'm greeted by the lock screen, and have to enter my password again.
I started using my laptop with Windows 8 and everything was working fine. But then Windows upgraded to 8.1 and now I cannot get the Dolby Home Theater v4 to start, I always get the error message about driver.
When I boot up my Y50, The lenovo logo comes up and the windows 8.1 loading logo below it lags. It starts slow and then goes back to normal. The problem is, My other laptop which is also windows 8.1 it boots up 2x as fast even though my y50 has better computer specs. Both laptops have fast boot enabled.
Edit: My other windows 8.1 laptop boots in 14 seconds while my Y50 boots in 35seconds. There is noticable lag when it boots up.
I just did a OneKeyRecovery to reset the notebook (original Win8); after that I did an upgrade to Win8.1; now the notebook boots (reboot/shutdown) very slow, booting takes >5 min; when it's up it's quite ok.
Assume an issue with the SSD cache, SSD is not visible (device manager etc,), reinstalled smartcache, smartcache doesn't find an SSD....
I have Lenovo G505 (59-380146) (APU Quad Core A10-5750 2.5 Ghz/ 6GB Ram) Windows 7 x64. Upgraded my HDD to SSD (Sandisk SDSSDHP256G FW:X2316RL).
System become rapid speed, windows boots in 8-10secs, HD tune transfer rate is between 357.3 and 409.6 MB/sec, simply everything just went perfect except Internet speed... With old HDD it used to be around 36-40Mbps, with SSD its now only around 11-13Mbps... My wireless card is Atheros AR956x. Drivers are up to date and downloaded from Lenovo support website. Tried old HDD - wifi works perfect.
I just upgraded my Y530 from 2GB*2 to 4GB*2 PC3 10666. BIOS recognizes the rams. From vista 64 startup it is extremely slow. I was able to log on, after half an hour and CPU is at 100% all the time and the computer fails to respond to mouse clicks or keyboard. An hour after this I was desperate trying to turn it off and pressed hand held the power key. Now it's corrupted my user profile. I know how to fix that but everything runs in slow motion 1:100 and I can't do anything. I tried to log on with admin and the video driver keeps crashing that I was almost not clicking fast enough to close those error dialogs and yes it's just as slow otherwise. Safe mode works fine. Win vista 64 reports 8gb in safe mode. I searched for a while and found that I might need new bios so where do I get it? All lenovo has are drivers. There was one request a while back for bios but there's no update on it.
I upgraded my brand new U410 to Windows 8, and immediately noticed that shutdown took more than 5 hours, at which point I would just kill it by holding down the power button.
My X1 Carbon started running super slow since last week. The disk C: shows I still have 49.2 GB free space to use. So I think the problem does not relate to the space size. I am wondering if there is any way to clear something in my computer and make it run as fast as before.
I bought lenovo z510 recently and liked its performance. But from last few days am facing issue when windows 8.1 boots .ie., when i power on my laptop i see "lenovo log" for more than 15 minutes and sometimes windows doesnt start at all. I have to restart few times manually with power button to see the windows screen.
Initially i thought it is due to windows update, but even after I turned off update, am facing same issue. My laptop is hardly a month old and it is very frustrating to see this happening .
The brightness on my new E545 with Windows 8.1 fluctuates weirdly while browsing the web or doing other this. This is really annoying. It will fade and then suddly flash to a brighter setting.
I already disabled the adaptive brightness in the power options and it still does it.Searching around the web I see a bunch of suggestions that are related to Intel graphics adapters but nothing related to AMD.
Took delivery of my brand new y510p yesterday and the last 24 hours have been hell. The PC is incredibly slow, much slower than my three year old XPS 15 from dell.
The laptop won't shut down/restart.. It just goes through shutdown screen then black screen with keyboard monitor fan etc still on.I have done a system recovery back to initial state and am now running windows updates as first port of call but its been stuck on 13 out of 32 update (whilst shutting down) for the past hour and half.
