The brightness on my new E545 with Windows 8.1 fluctuates weirdly while browsing the web or doing other this. This is really annoying. It will fade and then suddly flash to a brighter setting.
I already disabled the adaptive brightness in the power options and it still does it.Searching around the web I see a bunch of suggestions that are related to Intel graphics adapters but nothing related to AMD.
I have what I think is a common problem with Edges: My E535, which I've had just over a week, will start up quietly. Then after about 3 minutes the fan will switch to high speed, even under light load (e.g.. only Firefox running, and limited scrolling or other activity). After a few minutes at steady high speed, it will begin cycling up and down, up and down, up and down..... This is getting to be moderately annoying. It does this whether the machine is plugged in or on battery. It also happens when I'm doing other things...OpenOffice spreadsheets or word documents, or even just letting the system sit idle.
I've attempted to change settings with Power Manager but for some reason, PM ends up crashing when I attempt to select a lower fan speed setting and a normal (level 10) brightness setting. Can the two problems be related? I'm presuming from similar posts for E530 and other Edges that this is BIOS related. Here is my info:

I just received my new E545 and booted it up. I've noticed the CPU is quite hot and so ran some software tests. It is showing the CPU temp around 92 degree C / 196 degrees F.
The chip is an AMD A10-5750M. I take it the heat isn't normal. Should I be sending this back to warranty?

I purchased a Edge E545 that came pre loaded with Win7 Pro 64. I created the Recovery disks for Win7 and used the Win 8 Disks to upgrade the OS. I have created a new NTFS partition on my hard drive and would like to install Win 7 to that partition. I have tried to load the recovery disks to install into that partition but I have not been successful; the boot disk won't even load. I downloaded the Win7 Pro 64 ISO to try and load it into that partition but the computer does not have the COA sticker under the battery like it's supposed to.
I have recovery disks that won't load at restart or cold boot and I have a perfectly good ISO that i don't have a COA to.
Last month I bought a Lenovo e545. I did an upgrade to windows 8.1 on my new system. After upgrading, I noticed several problems with my drivers and installation of them(Conextant audio driver, Windows location driver). Also none of the Windows 8 games work. So I thought I'd do a sfc /scannow first. There I got the message the system is locked. So I thought to reinstall my backup on the recovery partition. This also said the disk is locked. I tried reInstalling from a home made external USB hard disk with original recovery system, this also won't work. This makes all my recovery disks useless so I can not restore my computer if anything goes wrong...
Now the base of the problem might be influenced by one of these factors:
In trying to solve the problem I accidentally downgraded the BIOS from 1.10 to 1.09 (so maybe this infuences the Windows certificates in the BIOS, maybe a technician can tell me if this can happen) and can not find the 1.10 BIOS on the website to be downloaded and upgrade the BIOS again.I added 4 GB crucial RAM (1600)The Windows 8.1 upgrade is a pain in the ass and blocks the possibility somehow to recover the system. I really need to be able to recover the system to preform a clean system install...
I just purchased a new E545, which has the unusual keyboard layout that I like -- the Control key inside of the special Fn key. Of course, it seems Lenovo has gone and switched the way the function keys operate so that now you have to press the Fn key to get the F-keys.
How can I swap the function keys operation so that I need the Fn key to operate the PC and media controls?
I fresh installed Windows 7 and installed all the drivers from Lenovo's website. Still I cannot adjust the brightness. It stays on MAX and drains the battery in 1h30min. All other F hotkeys work but not F7 & F8 for brightness control. Is this a BIOS/Drivers issue?

New just turned on a few hours ago. Brightness control was working before fresh install. Did fresh install to get rid of bloatware.
Just purchased Z710 laptop. I am astonished at the poor performance while browsing the Internet. My 8 yr old Dell/XP outperforms this thing. I hope there is a relatively simple fix for this or I am in deep trouble. Pages slow to open, videos constantly buffering. Multi-tasking is out of the question.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI might have missed something, but I noticed I have no bluetooth hardware listed in my device manager in Windows 8 (upgraded from Windows 7) on my E520 (model 1143) (searching for new hardware doesn't give any results). I have installed and reinstalled all Lenovo drivers available on the support site, but to no avail. When I press Fn+F9, I only get the choice to switch on/off Wifi in the charms bar on the right, but no usual choice to enable/disable Wifi and bluetooth as in Windows 7. What have I done wrong?

Whenever Im on battery, dvd-rom automatically turns itself off and I'm not able to turn it on again, clicking "power on" doesn't have any affect, and there is no setting in power manager that is related to this.I tried to reinstall microsoft drivers for dvd device,I tried to update PM and PM driver, but it didn't work. When I remove it in device manager and reboot system then it is ok, but this solution lasts until next boot.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI just purchased the E540. Running Win 7.1. I have 2 WD 3.0 Passport drives plugged into a USB 3.0 hub. The 3.0 hub has the correct cable for 3.0. They are not being recognized as 3.0 devices (I get a message). I updated the USB 3.0 driver on lenovo's site and BIOS is set to auto.recognize. I have also tried the 3.0 option in the BIOS but that didn't do anything. I also tried using the drives without the hub in one of the 3.0 USB slots but that didn't do anything either.
I have checked the forum but what I found was possibly purchasing a 3.0 cable (not necessary - my cable is 3.0 compliant) but that was for a Wn 8 system or updating 3.0 device driver (done). So much for plug and play.
I have a Lenovo Edge 330 (E330), with win 7 pro pre-installed. I'm annoyed by all the software that's installed together with the laptop, and I'd rather want the laptop with a clean install of Win 7. I have a Win 7 Enterprise, but not a Pro. If I attempt to install Win 7 Ent., would this cause any trouble? Drivers for all hardware seems to be available from the support site, that shouldn't cause any problem.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a couple issues with moving Win7 Pro from my HD to my new mSATA. I have an E520, 1143 FU3 (?), 500gb hd, Win7 Pro. I added a 120gb mSATA SSD.
I first thought I would clone the drive to the new one, but had trouble getting the used space small enough. Then I thought I would do a factory install, but can't seem to get that to work either.
First of all, I made recovery disks back when I first got the computer. But I can't find a way to use the data on the disks. They are not bootable. So If I remove my old hard drive so I can install to the new one, how do I boot? I made a boot disk from Lenovo Recovery, but it doesn't boot to a command prompt, just into the program, which doesn't seem to be able to use my recovery disks, it wants something else. How do I restore my computer back to factory defaults? The recovery system won't let me make new disks, its says this can only be done once.
Also, I have been removing things from the hard drive so it will fit to clone to the new 120gb drive. I seemed to be unable to get the drive to be less than 130gb, even though I had removed almost everything except Windows. I was checking the size by looking at the drive properties in Windows. Now I noticed that if I check the properties of each item, directories and files, on the C:, the total size is only about 60gb. Does that mean I can clone the drive, and the drive properties is reporting the used space incorrectly, or am I missing something? Even with the "Q:" (Lenovo_Recovery) added on, I should still be well under my 111gb on the new drive.
I got an Edge 13 with Windows Ultimate installed. I want to replace the existing disk with a SSD and I collect the windows key for the installation with jelly bean keyfinder.
The problem ist that windows does not recognize this key to activate windows. I also did not find the key on the notebook.
The key itself is valid because on the old disk Windows is activated....
I recent did Microsoft and Lenovo updates and I have lost the On-Screen Volumn display. Not the Volumn icon in the task bar, I lost the display that shows the volumn going up or down on the screen. The video support suggested installing Power Management but this did not work. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the audio drivers, also did not work.

I searched for a new driver and found one from Realtek for win 8. After this installation and the reboot, the wifi works fine. Restarting the notebook again, the device was disabled again. After I reinstalled windows 7 I can't recover factory settings and drivers (going threw F11 as mention in many support sites). Also I can't download Wifi (wirelees lan driver). It shows that it can't be done on this computer becouse it doens't support this operating system or that it doesn't have wife device at all. I downloaded Lan driver from support and it works, but its diffrent story with wifi. Driver genius can't find it either. Also tried using rescue and restore, but it doesn't find any back up's. Even do there still a partition LENOVO_RECOVERY. So I need to know that I am doing wrong, did installed wrong OS(even do I tried two diffrent setups) or I just do something wrong then I try to restore fatory settings or I just f.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently got an E135 that came with Windows 8 preloaded. I really didnt like the new interface so I installed Windows 7 on it. Unfortunatly I forgot to create a recovery stick using this method. Now I'd like to reset it back to Windows 8 but I have no means of forcing the computer to acces the recovery partition.
Method's I've tried: F11 during startup gives me the option to recover Windows 7 from a USB stick. Which is weird because the original OS was Windows 8Rescue and Recovery and OneKey both give me the option to back-up but not to restore from the hidden partition.
Info: Lenovo ThinkPad Edge E135 335972G..Disk Managment shows one HDD divided into: 2x recovery partition, 1x EFI system partition and normal parition.
yesterday my E330 arrived with no operating system installed. After the Windows 7 Ultimate installation was finished I was already disappounted, because no driver was detected. So I had to manually download all drivers from the slow lenovo site. After I installed all drivers (also BIOS updates and Win updates) the Wlan wasnt working. Tried both, the realtek and the broadcom driver, none of them is working. Can't conntact the support because the page won't load. After a few hours of trying to fix the problem I dont know what to do anymore.

Windows 7 worked very fine after installing the device drivers, except for the LCD brightness that doesnt respond to any fine adjustments...
In the main page of windows power management, as well as the keyboard hotkeys, the slider either goes to the maximum or minimum brightness (no stages in between though in windows 8 there were > 6 stages)....
In the advanced settings screen, as far as i adjust brightness (for example to 50% on battery, 70% plugged in) this doesnt lead to any change in the brightness practically....
I will keep this short, I have a Lenovo ideapad y510p with Windows 8.1 (I got it with 8.1, did not upgrade from 8) . I noticed a problem yesterday, where I cannot adjust the screen brightness. If I use the keyboard commands (Fn + Up and Fn + Down) The slider appears on the top left of the screen, as always, but does not “slide” It stays static.
If I move the slider on the Setting menu, I can slide the value but the brightness does not change and the value is not reflected on the slider on the top left of the screen.
I am not sure when this happened for the first time.

Yesterday I've upgraded to OS Windows 8.1 and when I adjusted the screen brightness it goes off, and brightness adjust function doesn't works. I've solved my problem reinstalling the Intel video drivers, downloaded from Lenovo Driver Support.
It seems that Windows 8.1 upgrade disables video drivers.
