Lenovo 11e E/Edge :: Function Keys Require Pressing Fn Key On E545
Jun 8, 2010I just purchased a new E545, which has the unusual keyboard layout that I like -- the Control key inside of the special Fn key. Of course, it seems Lenovo has gone and switched the way the function keys operate so that now you have to press the Fn key to get the F-keys.
How can I swap the function keys operation so that I need the Fn key to operate the PC and media controls?
Lenovo 11e E/Edge :: ThinkPad E545 CPU Overheating
Jun 1, 2014I just received my new E545 and booted it up. I've noticed the CPU is quite hot and so ran some software tests. It is showing the CPU temp around 92 degree C / 196 degrees F.
The chip is an AMD A10-5750M. I take it the heat isn't normal. Should I be sending this back to warranty?

Nov 7, 2014I purchased a Edge E545 that came pre loaded with Win7 Pro 64. I created the Recovery disks for Win7 and used the Win 8 Disks to upgrade the OS. I have created a new NTFS partition on my hard drive and would like to install Win 7 to that partition. I have tried to load the recovery disks to install into that partition but I have not been successful; the boot disk won't even load. I downloaded the Win7 Pro 64 ISO to try and load it into that partition but the computer does not have the COA sticker under the battery like it's supposed to.
I have recovery disks that won't load at restart or cold boot and I have a perfectly good ISO that i don't have a COA to.
Lenovo E545 11e E/Edge :: Windows 8.1 Brightness Fluctuates While Browsing Web
May 27, 2014The brightness on my new E545 with Windows 8.1 fluctuates weirdly while browsing the web or doing other this. This is really annoying. It will fade and then suddly flash to a brighter setting.
I already disabled the adaptive brightness in the power options and it still does it.Searching around the web I see a bunch of suggestions that are related to Intel graphics adapters but nothing related to AMD.
Lenovo 11e E/Edge :: Cannot Reinstall OS From Recovery Console E545 After Upgrade Win 8 To 8.1
Apr 14, 2014Last month I bought a Lenovo e545. I did an upgrade to windows 8.1 on my new system. After upgrading, I noticed several problems with my drivers and installation of them(Conextant audio driver, Windows location driver). Also none of the Windows 8 games work. So I thought I'd do a sfc /scannow first. There I got the message the system is locked. So I thought to reinstall my backup on the recovery partition. This also said the disk is locked. I tried reInstalling from a home made external USB hard disk with original recovery system, this also won't work. This makes all my recovery disks useless so I can not restore my computer if anything goes wrong...
Now the base of the problem might be influenced by one of these factors:
In trying to solve the problem I accidentally downgraded the BIOS from 1.10 to 1.09 (so maybe this infuences the Windows certificates in the BIOS, maybe a technician can tell me if this can happen) and can not find the 1.10 BIOS on the website to be downloaded and upgrade the BIOS again.I added 4 GB crucial RAM (1600)The Windows 8.1 upgrade is a pain in the ass and blocks the possibility somehow to recover the system. I really need to be able to recover the system to preform a clean system install...

Aug 8, 2010Is there any way to simulate pressing the break key on the Edge 14 keyboard? I need it for debugging and to maximize the Remote Desktop window. Dell used the Fn F12 on keyboards that they removed the key. Does Lenovo has mapped this function to any other key combination?

Oct 9, 2011Although great when you're on walkabout with your laptop, when I'm at home, laptop plugged in, I don't want my laptop to keep reverting to a login screen every few minutes.
I'm on a Thinkpad E520 running Windows 64 bit Professional. Here's what I tried so far without success:
1) Control Panel --> Power Options --> I set everything to "max performance" and disabled display sleep-mode timers.
2) Control Panel --> Lenovo - Camera-enhanced security --> I turned off camera recognition features and related timers.
3) Control Pannel --> Lenovo Power Manager --> I turned off all timers.
Turning off options in the above control panel areas does not seem to affect the auto-protect feature. This auto lock down feature is driving me nuts at home, the only consolation being that the fingerprint scanner makes it a little easier to get back in once the laptop goes down. It's like some terrible screen saver you hate that can't be turned off.
How is this auto lockdown feature turned off? Ideally there should be a big button available in the taskbar which you can push: on - off. That way you can easily turn timer suites on and off with a single action.
But as of yet, I can't find anything in the control panel or taskbar that turns off this auto lock down feature.
Dell Inspiron 15 :: Will Not Reboot Even In Safe Mode
Oct 30, 2014I have a Dell Inspiron 15 320gb hard drive that I purchased in August 2013. It has been a great computer until last night.
I shut it down and later rebooted it.
It seemed normal until the wallpaper ( a photo of mine ) appeared as normal. The date and time was showing along with signal strength and battery strength.
None of my short cuts appeared and none of the keys on the key board work - at all.
I tried rebooting and hitting F8 to go to safe mode - nothing.
I tried a memory stick and a SD card but computer will not recognize anything. I would go back to all factory defaults and lose my files if I could get access.

Nov 20, 2009I am notebook user with a Dell Inspiron 1720 (ich8m) and have a sata mtron SSD (16gb) running.
The SSD will not exceed the 84 MB/s read speed in normal mode but in safemode the SSD reaches 98 MB/s or more. I am now running XP but this problem is also in Vista.
On my old desktop with a nfore 4 the ssd always reaches the 98 MB/s even in normal mode.
The maximum speed of the SSD is 100 MB/s ......
Dell :: 9300 Black Screen Ok In Safe Mode
Feb 23, 2008My 9300 has an issue that I'm hoping someone can help with.
When I boot as normal into XP there are broken lines on screen like electrical interference and then when XP tries to start the screen goes black.
When I boot into safe mode the screen is fine but obviously not at 1900x1200 resolution.
I've noticed my graphics card fan is not spinning so I'm assuming the card wont run at 1900x1200 when it senses the fan has died ?
Dell Inspiron N4010 :: Can't Get To Boot In Safe Mode
Mar 8, 2013I start the laptop and I get the black screen with the Dell logo on it. There is a progress bar at the bottom that moves across to the right as the boot up progresses. In the bottom right corner, it shows the option of hitting F2 for Set Up or F12 for Boot Menu. I can access both of these menus. It then progresses to a screen with the Windows logo with the words "Resuming Windows" underneath. Once that completes, I get a black screen!
I was told that I should boot up the laptop in safe mode by hitting F8.....
I can't seem to get this to work.

Mar 7, 2013Vista Home Premium, didn't have a disc so ordered one from Dell. Upon startup it ask me to put a disc in to repair.
Will this work, my understanding you needed a Vista disc, and this computer does not seem to have a partition with Vista on it, for the repair. I wondering if this will work? I tried diagnostics everything seems fine, but it loops to safe mode.

Recently I bought transcend 4GB 1333 and have removed existing 2GB ram and replaced with 4GB to increase the physical memory to 6GB. I can see that the ram has been detected and the total is showing up in Bios. After this, the system does not boot, it just keep restarting.

When it first crashed, I was playing a game, then the screen got all pixelated, then the blue screen. The computer has had overheating problems because the fan doesn't work 100%. It would shut off often from overheating, but I cleaned the vents out thoroughly, and it hasn't overheated since then. Since the computer wont start, I cant get to the crash dump files.

Lenovo T400 / T500 :: T430 - Touchpad Disabled While Or After Pressing Keyboard?
Jul 18, 2012I have a new Thinkpad T430 and I have an issue with the touchpad. My touchpad is disabled while holding a key on the keyboard which is extremely frustrating. If I hold down a key then my pointer will move a short distance before stopping and becoming unable to move any further until I release the key. I've learned that this feature is know as the palmcheck feature of the ultranav drivers. However, in the settings for my touchpad, there is no palmcheck setting. The feature seems to simply be on with no option to turn it off. I have updated to the latest drivers, but still there seems to be nothing I can do to fix this issue.
