Lenovo 11e E/Edge 14 :: Simulate Pressing Break Key On Keyboard?

Aug 8, 2010

Is there any way to simulate pressing the break key on the Edge 14 keyboard?  I need it for debugging and to maximize the Remote Desktop window.  Dell used the Fn F12 on keyboards that they removed the key. Does Lenovo has mapped this function to any other key combination?

Lenovo 11e E/Edge :: Function Keys Require Pressing Fn Key On E545

Jun 8, 2010

I just purchased a new E545, which has the unusual keyboard layout that I like -- the Control key inside of the special Fn key. Of course, it seems Lenovo has gone and switched the way the function keys operate so that now you have to press the Fn key to get the F-keys.

How can I swap the function keys operation so that I need the Fn key to operate the PC and media controls?

Lenovo T400 / T500 :: T430 - Touchpad Disabled While Or After Pressing Keyboard?

Jul 18, 2012

I have a new Thinkpad T430 and I have an issue with the touchpad. My touchpad is disabled while holding a key on the keyboard which is extremely frustrating. If I hold down a key then my pointer will move a short distance before stopping and becoming unable to move any further until I release the key. I've learned that this feature is know as the palmcheck feature of the ultranav drivers. However, in the settings for my touchpad, there is no palmcheck setting. The feature seems to simply be on with no option to turn it off. I have updated to the latest drivers, but still there seems to be nothing I can do to fix this issue.

Lenovo 11e E/Edge :: E530 - Keyboard And Touchpad Stopped Responding

Feb 23, 2013

I have recently updated the BIOS on my E530 laptop to version 2.08 (the previously installed version was 1.xx, probably 1.37 as far as I remember, but am not sure about the exact version..). After the update the laptop keyboard and touchpad stopped working in Windows.

The keyboard does, however, work in the BIOS and both (keyboard and touchpad) work when the computer enters the Windows-startup-screen (where it suggests to fix hard drive errors etc.).

I am using Windows 8 all along and before I never had problems with my hardware. Now both the keyboard and touchpad are recognized in Window's Device manager, but are known to have troubles. There is also a PCI Device recognized in the category "Other devices", but it's missing any drivers (I wonder if there is a connection..). All those three are recognized as such by the Lenovo Solutions Center as well.

I have tried reinstalling the UltraNav drivers, but it wouldn't work. Also, I've tried finding any possible configuration regarding my problem in the BIOS, but was unsuccessful. If I attach an external mouse or keyboard, they work. I really don't know what else to do to get my laptop's keyboard & touchpad working!

The complete description of my laptop is: ThinkPad Edge E530 (3259-HLG), running Windows 8 (x64).

Lenovo 11e E/Edge :: ThinkPad E430 Keyboard Acts Like Enter Key Is Continuously Pressed

Jul 15, 2014

I own a Thinkpad E430(type 3254). It's about 14 months old. Yesterday, it randomly started having an issue with it's keyboard. It acts like the enter key is continuously pressed, and about 1 sec after I hit any other key it stops. The enter key by itself has stopped working, and only shorts sometimes and results in a continuous press.

As soon as i boot, enter input is given and normal startup gets interrupted. If i press any key, it's normal again until an OS loads. For example, if i boot into debian, line breaks get inserted between the console messages that are displayed until i press a key, and if i boot windows, it gets stuck at the login screen because enter is given without the correct password so it loops. This behavior also happens sometimes randomly while working normally.

The keyboard hasn't even seen heavy usage, or any drink spills. I usually keep the laptop at my desk, and use an external keyboard. The last time I took it out was 2 weeks ago. I doubt it can be a software issue, so do I need a new keyboard?

Dell :: Tick Sound From Laptop Internal Speakers On Pressing Any Key On Keyboard

Nov 15, 2008

I am facing a strange problem with my Inspiron 6400, a tick sound is heard from the laptop internal speakers everytime I press a key on keyboard OR even if I press a multimedia key provided at the front of the laptop. This has never happened before and I am unable to fix it.

The sound starts coming as soon as the system boots up. I have both Vista and XP installed so I get an option to select the OS I want to choose on startup. I hear the sound on pressing any key of keyboard even at this stage before selecting the OS. This confirms that it has nothing to do with the OS but is something wrong at the hardware level or BIOS, which I want to find out and need your help.

Two days back there was a Blue screen with some error (which I couldn't recall) and the problem started after that. It asked me to shutdown the machine to prevent further damage. I forcefully shut it down and then it wouldn't boot until I pressed the ESC key several times. However after that, the system is booting up normally but the sound keeps coming. How annoying it is.

I tried muting the internal PC speakers from Vista/XP but to no avail.

Lenovo T400 / T500 :: Alt And Space Keys Don't Work When Pressing Up And Left Arrows On T440s

May 27, 2014

I just got my T440s a few weeks ago and I love it. I just discovered a weird issue: both the alt keys and the space bar do not work when holding the up and left arrow keys simultaneously. I discovered this while playing a racing game. While holding up and left arrows, pressing either of the alt keys or the space bar produces no effect, and the laptop makes a "blip" noise.

All other keys seem to work while holding up + left arrows, and holding up + right arrow doesn't change a thing.I looked at the Ease of Acces settings (I've got Win7 Pro 64) and turned off all Filter Keys, Sticky Keys, etc.

Why it takes this long to reach the POST screen?

Dell :: Wireless Break Down Inspiron 1520

Apr 11, 2009

My Inspiron 1520 has been having a random issue. In a quick break down here is the problem(s).

When ever I turn off my wireless switch, the WiFi light sometimes will go off immediately or 5 seconds later - but the light will return on when no wireless activity is initiated and the switch is off. (Note that in the BIOS my wireless settings is "all" so everything shuts off when I hit the switch.

My Wireless AdHoc setup is utterly horribly useless now. Out of the blue for no reason one day it's decided "I'm not gonna let the iPod touch connect to me to share internet access".

Things too note, I'm in a rural location, so I'm fixed too DIAL UP ONLY - don't tell me "upgrade to high speed" - it's not an option in this area, period. With that said, no wireless activity goes on within my household besides my laptop sharing it's rock'n 3KBPS dial up with my iPod touch (possibly my PSP if I ever get around to it) ....

Lenovo 11e E/Edge :: Keeping Fn Key On

Jun 3, 2011

the way the F keys have been switched on my Edge 14", today I came across some time to fiddle around with it. I googled what I needed to do...and came across this question on yahoo, which is exact what I need. I bought Lenovo Thinkpad Edge several months ago, and I really like it so far. But I use MS Excel a lot and I always use shortcut keys which involve F1~F12. On my thinkpad, I always have to hit "Fn" and "F1~F12" keys simultaneously, and it is a little annoying since I've been used to using F1~F12 keys without hitting "Fn". So I went to BIOS keyboard setting, and enabled the Function key lock. It became a little bit better, because now I don't have to hit "Fn" and F1~F12 simultaneously, but I could press "Fn" AND THEN, F1~F12. But what I really want is the "Fn" key always on without pressing it. On the BIOS screen, it says hitting "fn" key twice keeps "Fn" key always on, but whenever I hit it twice and hit F1~F12, it doesn't function like F1~F12 key, but it just controlls the sound volume or display light. Is there any way to keep "Fn" key always on without pressing it everytime I want to use F1~F12 keys?"

In short, in the BIOS page, once "enabled", you are able to double tap the Fn key and have it stay on without you pressing it each time; however, it doesn't appear to work that way and turns off everytime you use a F key.

Dell :: Cut The Center Out Of My M1340 Edge-to-edge Plastic Screen, Its An Antiglare Beneath

Nov 7, 2009

The thing they call "edge to edge glass" which is really just plastic above an ordinary screen. The thing is, that the screen under that edge to edge plastic is a nice anti-glare screen, no kidding! You can see this if you take your laptop in sunlight and tilt it the right way.

So what's happening is you're getting the worst part of an anti-glare screen (reduced contrast ratio) plus the worst part of a glossy screen (unless you have a really pretty face).

I took the plastic thing off, cut along the black/clear border, pulled out the middle, and stuck the centerless border back on the laptop.

Result? THIS SCREEN IS FANTASTIC. Yeah ok, of course I would say that. But if you knew me, you'd know that was way out of the ordinary and really meant that THIS SCREEN IS FANTASTIC.

One thing you may not have considered is that the screen in its default position has yet another flaw, both sides of that glossy plastic thing are glossy, so some of the light coming from the screen is reflected back to the screen, and as you know light reflected onto the screen has a yellowish tint. That is my guess as to why the whites on this screen are really really white now, and the screen is much brighter. This also explains why other 300nit screens used to look so much brighter than this.

I will have more pics when I am able to charge the battery to my good camera. If anyone has any questions about removing that plastic thing I'll be happy to answer your questions, it's actually pretty easy. For those interested, here is how I did it:

1. I removed the "star" head screws, this was accomplished not with a special star head screw driver, but an ordinary flat head precision screw driver.

2. Put some paper over a hacksaw blade to avoid scratching, wedged it under the plastic near the top where the camera is, and snapped out the first of the several lock-in points on along the top edge. I proceeded to detatch the rest of the top of the screen in this way.

3. Both the left and right sides were held on mostly by adhesive, the very edge point locks in slightly, but the efforts removing these sides are focused mainly on separating the adhesive bond.

4. I pulled upward on the plastic and it came right off, there seems to be no adhesive or lock-in points on the bottom side.

5. Using the center of the screen as a test area, I tested several cutting utilities and decided on the utility knife. To my surprise, the plastic was about 1mm thick.

6. I clamped the screen down to the table, with a straight edge positioned 1mm inward of the black line, to give headroom for errors.

7. I cut along these lines, and repeated step 6 for each side, and pushed out the center to reveal the border piece that now resembled a common laptop screen enclosure border.

8. I used a medium grit sand paper to bring the cut lines to meet the black lines, and finished it off with a fine grit sand paper.

9. I applied some electrical tape to the area between the edge of the screen itself, and the edge of the laptop on the right and left sides because there was light leakage, and then popped the border back on and screwed it down.

Found the charger! Here's the high res shots. They do *some* justice to the screen quality.

Dell :: Studio 1555 Midnight Blue Edge To Edge Display Flex Demonstration

Aug 14, 2009

[url]

Heres a video I made to demonstrate the ammount of flex on the edge to edge lid. It does have flex and bend, but its not as bad as the one j3n82 reported. I recorded with an iPhone so the video quality is crap. Also forgot I had left it in portrait mode when I recorded it (I didn't have a tripod so I used a cup lol). But I hope it gives some of you a basic idea of the quality. I thought openning the blinds to allow the vertical lines will show the bend/flex a lot more. I was applying quite a bit of pressure, although it doesn't seem like I was in the video. I felt as if any harder I might have damage something, or maybe pop the edge to edge screen out. I used an 8lb dumbell, I think thats the limit.

If you noticed the cloth I used to cover the keyboard when I closed the screen, I did this this to avoid getting the smudges on the screen when I pushed the lid down onto the keyboard.

At the end of the video I tried showing the Edge to Edge display, notice how theres another layer of screen over the bezel. Thats the difference between the edge to edge.
