View 9 RepliesI've owned my Y2P for the last 3 or 4 months now. Keyboard backlight always turned off/on with Fn Spacebar just fine... until today. Fn+Space just gets the keyboard backlight to flash off for a second, and then back on.
Also I checked and all of the other Fn keys work. Also the Caps Lock light doesn't come on either.
And if that's not all, My power indicator light is amber even when fully charged. (solid, not blinking)

View 3 Replies View RelatedI am pretty positive that my laptop does have a backlight. However, I didn't need it at the time and I shut it off. But now I can't turn it on. I originally remembered adjusting it through the power options and that there was a little slider to adjust the brightness of either the screen or the keyboard. I could have been wrong though, since I no longer see the second slider for the keyboard brightness. I have tried everything I could find to get the light to turn on. I used the mobility center but there is no keyboard option. I have tried the fn + spaacebar, fn +f5, and my keyboard does not have a specialized key to adjust the keyboard backlight either. How to turn on the backlight?

On my old XPS, when the screen turned off, the keyboard backlight would turn off with it automatically. My new Inspiron 17 does not do this, and I can't find anything that seems to control the behavior. Is there a way to do this?
Alternately, is there a software solution to control the keyboard backlight?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI bought a E520. I am not liking the touchpad on this thing. It hangs up and does not respond a lot of times.
The biggest thing that irks me is that my screen will zoom in and out when I run my finger along the touchpad or when tapping it. I know you can use the "pinch" with two fingers to zoom in and out but mine will zoom with just a tap of one finger.
How to disable the zoom feature. There must be a way in settings to turn that off. I just want the touchpad to work normally, as in move the cursor around.. thats it, nothing more.
Before the end of 2013 I bought an Ideapad U530 Touch for school and it's been working fine up until a few days ago when the backlight for the left most CTRL key stopped working and shut off completely. Every other key on the board is fine, except for this one. Is there any easy to fix to this problem, or do I need to send the entire computer back?
View 2 Replies View RelatedAlthough great when you're on walkabout with your laptop, when I'm at home, laptop plugged in, I don't want my laptop to keep reverting to a login screen every few minutes.
I'm on a Thinkpad E520 running Windows 64 bit Professional. Here's what I tried so far without success:
1) Control Panel --> Power Options --> I set everything to "max performance" and disabled display sleep-mode timers.
2) Control Panel --> Lenovo - Camera-enhanced security --> I turned off camera recognition features and related timers.
3) Control Pannel --> Lenovo Power Manager --> I turned off all timers.
Turning off options in the above control panel areas does not seem to affect the auto-protect feature. This auto lock down feature is driving me nuts at home, the only consolation being that the fingerprint scanner makes it a little easier to get back in once the laptop goes down. It's like some terrible screen saver you hate that can't be turned off.
How is this auto lockdown feature turned off? Ideally there should be a big button available in the taskbar which you can push: on - off. That way you can easily turn timer suites on and off with a single action.
But as of yet, I can't find anything in the control panel or taskbar that turns off this auto lock down feature.
Is there any way to simulate pressing the break key on the Edge 14 keyboard? I need it for debugging and to maximize the Remote Desktop window. Dell used the Fn F12 on keyboards that they removed the key. Does Lenovo has mapped this function to any other key combination?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have recently updated the BIOS on my E530 laptop to version 2.08 (the previously installed version was 1.xx, probably 1.37 as far as I remember, but am not sure about the exact version..). After the update the laptop keyboard and touchpad stopped working in Windows.
The keyboard does, however, work in the BIOS and both (keyboard and touchpad) work when the computer enters the Windows-startup-screen (where it suggests to fix hard drive errors etc.).
I am using Windows 8 all along and before I never had problems with my hardware. Now both the keyboard and touchpad are recognized in Window's Device manager, but are known to have troubles. There is also a PCI Device recognized in the category "Other devices", but it's missing any drivers (I wonder if there is a connection..). All those three are recognized as such by the Lenovo Solutions Center as well.
I have tried reinstalling the UltraNav drivers, but it wouldn't work. Also, I've tried finding any possible configuration regarding my problem in the BIOS, but was unsuccessful. If I attach an external mouse or keyboard, they work. I really don't know what else to do to get my laptop's keyboard & touchpad working!
The complete description of my laptop is: ThinkPad Edge E530 (3259-HLG), running Windows 8 (x64).
I own a Thinkpad E430(type 3254). It's about 14 months old. Yesterday, it randomly started having an issue with it's keyboard. It acts like the enter key is continuously pressed, and about 1 sec after I hit any other key it stops. The enter key by itself has stopped working, and only shorts sometimes and results in a continuous press.
As soon as i boot, enter input is given and normal startup gets interrupted. If i press any key, it's normal again until an OS loads. For example, if i boot into debian, line breaks get inserted between the console messages that are displayed until i press a key, and if i boot windows, it gets stuck at the login screen because enter is given without the correct password so it loops. This behavior also happens sometimes randomly while working normally.
The keyboard hasn't even seen heavy usage, or any drink spills. I usually keep the laptop at my desk, and use an external keyboard. The last time I took it out was 2 weeks ago. I doubt it can be a software issue, so do I need a new keyboard?

Anyway is there a way to keep the backlight for the keyboard on all the time? I seem to remember it staying on before I did a clean install last night
the keyboard backlight goes off after about 30 seconds of non-use of the keys. The trackpad movement doesn't keep it lit.
i can re-light by touching any key, but this presents two issues:
1.) the first keystroke is entered. (i guess i can use the shift key)
2.) more important, the screen brightness seems to react to ambient light, so the keyboard's light ends up making the screen pulsate.
I couldn't find a specific reference, although hard to believe. But then again, the humongous threads are hard to search effectively.
In own a Pavillion DV7 2070ED. I spilled wine over the keyboard...
My insurance will cover this so money isn't really the problem. So I was thinking about buying a backlight keyboard instead of the original black one (which works really annoying in lowlight conditions).
Now I found a thread about backlight keyboard but I'm unable to find out which backlight keyboard is compatible with my laptop. On the motherboard there is input for the keyboard-backlight. So thats not the problem.
