On my old XPS, when the screen turned off, the keyboard backlight would turn off with it automatically. My new Inspiron 17 does not do this, and I can't find anything that seems to control the behavior. Is there a way to do this?
Alternately, is there a software solution to control the keyboard backlight?
I just got my Edge 14" yesterday, and the keyboard backlight isn't on, where the setting is or what the keyboard shortcut is to turn it on?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI am pretty positive that my laptop does have a backlight. However, I didn't need it at the time and I shut it off. But now I can't turn it on. I originally remembered adjusting it through the power options and that there was a little slider to adjust the brightness of either the screen or the keyboard. I could have been wrong though, since I no longer see the second slider for the keyboard brightness. I have tried everything I could find to get the light to turn on. I used the mobility center but there is no keyboard option. I have tried the fn + spaacebar, fn +f5, and my keyboard does not have a specialized key to adjust the keyboard backlight either. How to turn on the backlight?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've owned my Y2P for the last 3 or 4 months now. Keyboard backlight always turned off/on with Fn Spacebar just fine... until today. Fn+Space just gets the keyboard backlight to flash off for a second, and then back on.
Also I checked and all of the other Fn keys work. Also the Caps Lock light doesn't come on either.
And if that's not all, My power indicator light is amber even when fully charged. (solid, not blinking)

- For some off reason my keyboard backlight wont turn on, it just has a O with a / going through it. And its a 2.4ghz model.
- Its also plugged in charged at 95%, and it says not charging.
The keyboard backlight used to work, but it no longer does. I have tried Fn+F6, Fn+Right Arrow, and going to C: Program Files/ Dell/ Quickset/ BacklightKB and none of these are correcting the solution.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a new Inspiron 7737 and installed Windows 7 Enterprise Edition on it. The laptop is wire-connected to a modem. The problem is that the Ethernet card driver is needed. The only driver I found (.exe file) on the Dell site was for Windows 8/8.1. I tried to install (i.e. run) it anyways, but that didn't work (it complained about the absence of the controller and did not show up in the list of the available drivers...).
View 1 Replies View RelatedAfter the latest Windows update my machine restarted to no USB mouse activity. I checked Device Manager and could see that the USB root hub was not functioning so I then proceeded to reuse Windows update and it told me there was an update available for Intel USB hub so I ran this and after another restart and some fiddling (it tried to make me install a USB keyboard driver which I had to uncheck as it kept failing and preventing the mouse driver installing) I got my mouse working again.
However I now have no touchscreen functionality) this is shown as non fuctioning in the device drivers, it also says the transciever for the mouse isn't recognised but as the mouse works I don't really care about this).
In answer to the suspected responses, yes I do have a touchscreen (or rather did have!), yes I do have the latest BIOS, I've run the Dell update and touchsceen doesn't appear as an option for device drivers, no this is 99.999% not a hardware issue unless its unbelievably coincidental with Windows Update and no it did not give me an option to rollback my drivers for any of the devices that stopped working.
How do I get my touchscreen functioning again?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI've had my Inspiron 17 for 4 months and noticed today that the touchscreen isn't working.
How long ago the problem started as I generally use the old desktop/touchpad combination.
When checking PC settings it now says 'no pen or touch input is available for this display.'
Brand new laptop 3 days old - model 7737. Came with Win8 and touchscreen was working fine
Have updated to 8.1 and installed other software like office, etc and touchscreen is now not recognised. System says "no pen or touch device"
Device manager also shows an unknown USB device (device descriptor request failed)
Device manager also keeps refreshing (like every few seconds) - sometimes the USB device disappears completely then comes back again as unknown.
I'm sure this must be a driver issue but have tried all those I can find.

Anyway is there a way to keep the backlight for the keyboard on all the time? I seem to remember it staying on before I did a clean install last night
Th backlit keyboard on my XPS 1645 leaks a lot of light, which is quite annoying in dimly lit environments.
In my case it is mostly the upper row of keys, but other individual keys have the same problem. As not all keys have this problem I assume it is not a design feature.
Is anyone else experiencing this same issue? I have done a search on the forum, but couldn't find anything related.
I tried to turn it on again by pressing Fn + right arrow key on my keyboard to turn it on but the lights on my touchpad light up as well as caps lock when I turn it on but not the rest.
