where my laptop would shutdown randomly and give me a real time clock error. I googled around and found that replacing the cmos battery would fix the problem. I tried it out but still i am getting this problem.
View 2 RepliesWhenever I boot up my laptop without the AC adapter plugged in I get a beeping error. 00C08270 Real Time Clock error pops up on the screen before start up. From my research it tells me that it could be the CMOS battery or the motherboard. If it's the CMOS battery I'm willing to replace the battery myself but if it's the motherboard I will probably need to go to the shop for that. What I'm afraid of is the cost. If my problem is the CMOS battery I don't know where to buy the battery replacement myself and if it's the motherboard, is it worth it to pay the cost of replacement and from what I know paying for a new OS too? or should I buy a new laptop instead?
View 5 Replies View RelatedRecently replaced the CMOS battery ourselves after getting the 5 beeps. Put everything back together but a couple of screws were loose and came out. Regardless the computer booted up fine and worked for a week. Yesterday it would not power on, at all. Unscrewed everything, opened it up, found some loose connections and tightened up, then replaced missing screws, seemed that they were tight and not spinning in place. Computer powered on fine. Next day, computer powers on again. Then, after a brief power down, it won't come on. AGAIN. Opened everything back up and saw the hard drive was loose so tightened that up via external screw. Put back together and made sure all connections were tight and re-screwed. Still will not power on.

HP battery alert system detected battery capacity to be very low error 601 (internal battery). So I changed the cell to a new CR 2032 battery. Showed the same error. I changed to another new CR2032 battery. The second time I did this I had a new 502 CMOS error along with the 601 error. My clock reverted back to 2009, I lost some of the icons on the lower right, and my wireless internet disappeared.
Now I have two things that need to be fixed.
I turned on, immediately hti ESC, hit system diag. F2, Battery Test:
Battery Test Primary FAILED (on the first battery I put in, didn't check on the second)
Control - Device Mgr. - HP - Batteries - Microsoft AC Adapter, Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery, and Microsoft Composit Battery all show that they work.
System CMOS/realtime clock says its working.
Microsoft System Mgmt. - BIOS Driver v. 6.1.7601.17514 from 6/21/2006 says it's the latest version.
I've manually updated my clock. I'll figure out the wireless and icons later I guess. Just need to know what to do about the errors.

i don't know where to find it in my laptop.
I just bought this and when i first got it it said 5 to 6 hrs remaining but now it shows 2 or 3 hrs after a full charge (it says up to 7 hrs on website). I have updated the BIOS and drivers which worked for a while but its back to 2-3 hrs again. In the BIOS it says the battery is running normally.

I ran de PSA diagnostics on my Studio 1555 and I got the error 2000 - 0212 (CMOS failed the pattern test). I changed the CMOS setting to default, ran the test again, and I got the same error.
Called Dell tech support, they told me that they are going to replace my board. My original problem is that Win7 is taking more than normal to start (2 - 3 minutes to be ready).
I got an Intel C2D P8700, 4GB RAM DDR2 800MHz, ATI Radeon 4570HD 512mb, 250GB Samsung HD 5400RPM. It should start fast, since the HD has no fragments, the win reg is ok and I have not crappy services or programs at startup. Does any1 know what is this error about?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a new Inspiron 7737 and installed Windows 7 Enterprise Edition on it. The laptop is wire-connected to a modem. The problem is that the Ethernet card driver is needed. The only driver I found (.exe file) on the Dell site was for Windows 8/8.1. I tried to install (i.e. run) it anyways, but that didn't work (it complained about the absence of the controller and did not show up in the list of the available drivers...).
View 1 Replies View RelatedAfter the latest Windows update my machine restarted to no USB mouse activity. I checked Device Manager and could see that the USB root hub was not functioning so I then proceeded to reuse Windows update and it told me there was an update available for Intel USB hub so I ran this and after another restart and some fiddling (it tried to make me install a USB keyboard driver which I had to uncheck as it kept failing and preventing the mouse driver installing) I got my mouse working again.
However I now have no touchscreen functionality) this is shown as non fuctioning in the device drivers, it also says the transciever for the mouse isn't recognised but as the mouse works I don't really care about this).
In answer to the suspected responses, yes I do have a touchscreen (or rather did have!), yes I do have the latest BIOS, I've run the Dell update and touchsceen doesn't appear as an option for device drivers, no this is 99.999% not a hardware issue unless its unbelievably coincidental with Windows Update and no it did not give me an option to rollback my drivers for any of the devices that stopped working.
How do I get my touchscreen functioning again?

I keep my laptop plugged in all the time and therefore do not run it off the battery.
I don't see how the battery could fail, when I don't run (use it) the computer from it, especially after only 1 years usage?

I've had my Inspiron 17 for 4 months and noticed today that the touchscreen isn't working.
How long ago the problem started as I generally use the old desktop/touchpad combination.
When checking PC settings it now says 'no pen or touch input is available for this display.'
My electricity power went out and I wad working on battery and when the power came back I was connecting the adapter but the battery led started to flash 4 times orange and 1 times white.

Have updated to 8.1 and installed other software like office, etc and touchscreen is now not recognised. System says "no pen or touch device"
Device manager also shows an unknown USB device (device descriptor request failed)
Device manager also keeps refreshing (like every few seconds) - sometimes the USB device disappears completely then comes back again as unknown.
I'm sure this must be a driver issue but have tried all those I can find.
My Dell Inspiron 7737, was reformatted and the hard drive was erased. I am doing a factory restore, but it is stuck at 52% on getting hard drive ready?

Tried a hard reset but no joy. Looking at some other posts on this forum, it seems that the next logical step would be to reset the CMOS. Trouble is I can't find any documentation to do with this laptop anywhere, so am unsure of the procedure.
